Almost 4 months ago I shared my series “Girls and Their Cats” on Bored Panda. It was so well-received by women who wanted to participate in the series, that I decided to make it an ongoing project on Instagram.
So far it’s been New York women only, but I would eventually like to expand to other cities and maybe even other countries. I’ve also started including the heartwarming adoption stories with each original post.
More info: Instagram
Sam and Charlie in Bushwick. Charlie and his brothers were rescued by @tinydarsky when she noticed someone giving the kittens away in a Dallas grocery store parking lot. Worried for their safety she had them flown out to NYC where she found them loving homes.
Giuliana and Yoncé in Williamsburg. Giuliana found Yoncé when she was a kitten, alone and shivering at a coffee shop in the middle of winter.
Natalie and Tela in Bushwick. Natalie is a clothing designer and cat mom to 5 cats! She found Tela 11 years ago living under her old house in Savannah, and protected her from a cat-hating landlord.
Kelly and Desnudo in Bed-Stuy.
Sugar and Coco in Hell’s Kitchen. Sugar is a pianist and artistic director of ncpmusic and she adopted Coco over 4 years ago from a mobile adoption center in the city.
Elizabeth with Dexter and Binx in Upper East Side.
Kia and Jordi in Bushwick. Someone found Jordi on the streets in Bushwick and now he has a forever home with Kia and her boyfriend.
Heather and 3-legged Finn in Greenpoint.
Ryen and Hazel in Kensington. Ryen adopted Hazel from the New Rochelle Humane Society in New Rochelle, NY. She also does rescue work with Brooklyn Animal Action, doing trap-neuter-return of feral cats and fostering and re-homing of adoptable cats and kittens.
Aja and Pearl in Fort Green.
Bridgett and Petra in Bed-Stuy.
Lily and Pollo in Greenpoint. Lily adopted Pollo after his former owner didn’t want him because his head was too pointy.
Kristina and Mewmerz in Chelsea.
Michelle and Ollie in Greenpoint.
Stacey and Miu Miu in Crown Heights. Miu Miu is from Bagdad.
Stephanie with Simon and Oliver in Williamsburg.
Raquel and Helmut in Manhattan.
Jeanine and Bijoux in Crown Heights.
Heather and Finn (with 3 legs) in Greenpoint.

Awesome pictures!! Let me know if you ever come to the Wilkes Barre area of PA (just west of the Poconos). I have 2 cats - siblings I rescued from the street when they were barely a week old. They're almost 8 now (born in July). Tiger is a gorgeous male tabby, and Smokey is his light grey sister. Smokey is very outgoing - but Tiger will take some coaching to come out when there's a "stranger" in the house - he's very shy.
Photographs are just wonderful. All the cats are amazing and the ladies too.
i love these, i have 3. Two are sisters, we were only going to take one but we found out that the other would have gone into a shelter if we didnt take her too. Then the youngest in our kitty family was a borderline stray. The owners of her mother didnt take care of mama's young so when we saw her we talked to them and they said we could take her if we wanted. So we did :)
I have 2 wonderful cats kenobi and leia ...both rescues and the best creatures on the earth <3
leia- Help me obi-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope. Kenobi- mraow
Load More Replies...I'm a girl who adopts kitties. :-) Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures and your amazing talent.
Gertrude Wilkes is clearly insane - maybe she needs a kitty in her life! These are gorgeous pictures of beautiful women and their beautiful kitties. Everybody needs a spot of cat-love. Anna (and Tamburlane and Dido)
ok...nice, mediocre pics with women and their cats like10000 on the internet...and?
I live in NJ....but I really only date in NYC. The ladies of NYC/Brooklyn are so much more cat friendly and often have one....this way I don't look too "strange" for having a cat of my own...fatty fatty Vera which I saved from a local shelter! and it gives us a common topic >^-.-^<
i thought these would be about the daily or natural moves and activities of the girls and the cats, NOT photograph with scenarios set.
i thought it would be about natural moves and activities when the girls and the cats are together, NOT a photograph with scenario set .
Interesting - all the reasons that women love cats are the things we dislike in men. Cats love hanging out late night on the streets with friends living it up. Cats love sleeping undisturbed when at home. They don't come when summoned. They pretend to become house trained and crave attention...see, everything we don't love about men.
What do you mean? There are many types of women and many types of cats here. They are all pictured in a way that represents a snapshot of their lives together.
