Artist Tells A Heartfelt Story About Loss Through His 12 Illustrations
Even though we all know that nothing lasts forever and that we are all mortal beings, our behavior when we lose someone dear to us shows how much we are not really aware of it. We tend to forget our mortality and take everything for granted but when someone we love goes away forever, we usually cannot cope with it easily. After all, dealing with a loss and sudden loneliness is always devastating. One Philadelphia artist decided to create a series of beautiful drawings that illustrate what happens when we suddenly lose something and cannot let go of it.

Tom Booth is an illustrator, author, and also art director whose creative ideas are widely acknowledged in the art field. He has authored and illustrated critically acclaimed titles such as ‘This Is Christmas’, ‘Day at the Beach’, and ‘Don’t Blink!’ His latest project features wistful and sad drawings which bring us nostalgic and sentimental feelings. These illustrations tell us a heartbreakingly sad story about a woodworker who cannot let go of someone he loves deeply. The poor woodworker keeps carving her in wood to keep her memory alive until finally, he can hold her in his arms.

The artist gives us a good glimpse into a heartbreaking story which will soon be published. “This is a personal project with a large story that I intend to publish. I still do not want to say in what format it will be published and also do not want to reveal the full story, so I will just say it is a story about loss and feeling lonely” – the artist told Bored Panda.

Tom started drawing when he was just 5-6 years old as a way of copying his big brother. He worked hard trying to keep up with him and when he went to college, he had the honor to do the cartoon drawings for his college paper. Though at first he decided to choose a different path and studied History as his major, he did not forget his artistic side and did cartoons all the time. This led him to some amazing things and now he can proudly call himself an art director.

Beautiful drawing on the carvings, Mr. Incredible did a wonderful job basing on his divorce. But guys, being alone doesn't mean loneliness. To me, it's a blessing to be independently by myself and for myself as dealing with people, it's the true bother.... why do you think the internet was invented??? You will oppose me to look good among your peers, but i'm sure that you too love to be away from the pesky crowd.

Continue the story please. Either he meets the woman of his dreams/carving who was sculpting him, or she comes to life. I thought this was beautiful and moving.
These brought a tear to my eye. I would like to see the series continue with drawings where the woodworker sees a woman who looks just like the one in his wood carvings walking through the forest, they meet and fall in love!
If you look at his axe it looks like the leviathan axe from god of war 4 The one Kratos wields
I feel bad that I couldn't pay attention to anything other than how he could do detail work with an axe like that. :P

I was okay until I saw the drawing of him sitting on the woodpile among the snow, and saw his tiny home and the nearby stark, black, small cross that seems to denote a grave. I know that aching, keening, horrific grief of losing a loved intimate much too soon...And the lengths the heart will go to to try, even for the briefest of moments, to resurrect what will never again exist this side of heaven. The woodcutter's grief just becomes that much more painful. :(
If there really were Greek gods, they would have brought her back to life for him. So touching!

Intellectually I know some men are capable of emotions like those depicted by Tom Booth in his woodworker pictures. But it's difficult to believe in my heart when every day is filled with men who beat, rape, catcall, sexually harass women. Men who sit in government and deny women and their children necessary food, shelter, health care. Men who refuse to defend women, fathers who abandon their children, police who as battered women “what did you do to p**s him off?” Men who say “what was she wearing?” and “she asked for it.” Legislators who refuse to listen to our testimony, who say we're hysterical. Men who think rape jokes are funny, blame women as humorless killjoys when we speak up, who spread lies that #MeToo is a bunch of vengeful harpies, men who can decide when they'll attend to these issues and when they have the comfort of not having to cope with the constant strain. I wish every woman's life were filled by men like that woodworker.
