10 Comics By French Artist That Raise Public Awareness About The Abandonment Of Pets
164Kviews
To most of us, summer brings joy, great moments, and of course, our long awaited holidays. However, this is not the case for most pets in France as for some of them, summer means stepping out of their comfort and beginning a rough street life. Each year during the summer, around 100,000 pets suddenly become unwanted and abandoned in France. Let’s admit that this number is pretty scary taking into consideration that it’s only for the summer alone!

In fact, they are abandoned because people are unable to find a kennel, a pet-sitter, or take them along, and so they choose to abandon their pets rather than miss out on their holidays. The sad truth is that not all these pets are handed over to a shelter by their owners and that’s how they end up dumped on the streets. Some of them are even euthanized.

All of this happens because we live in a consumer society and a pet is often considered as an impulse buy. People simply buy a pet for their children as a Christmas present and if they become a minor obstacle in planning their holidays, they don’t hesitate to abandon them. But they sometimes forget that a pet is not a toy but a living and loving creature!

Numerous awareness-raising operations have been put in place to open our eyes to this terrible injustice, however, one project stands out of the crowd. The project is called “Summer Adventures” and it is an amateur work by artistic director Nicolas Amiard. The idea of this project is to reflect on this urgent situation and raise public awareness of abandonment.

The series depicts classic comics from our childhood: from Scooby-Doo to the Simpsons and Tintin, Asterix and Pokemon, they all show how the characters from our childhood would feel if they were left out and abandoned on summer holidays. After all, who else would touch our heart more than our childhood comics?

This breaks my heart. Take it to a shelter. If you have any heart in you, don't just dump an animal on the side of the road to potentially die.
I agree whole heartily. Some shelters require a fee for you to drop your dog off so that's why so many end up on the street. THIS BY NO MEANS IS AN EXCUSE! I'd like to tie the people who leave them to a post and see how they like it. TO KAI: I have a dog park family and am so grateful that I have 4 people that will watch my Zoe if need be. Some will take her to their home and others will come by and take he out. That's all that I need. Not sure where you live but if you are in the SF Bay Area, I'd like to meet you and maybe our dogs can connect.
If you can afford a holiday, you can afford a pet drop off fee. Just a sign our disposable society is planet wide.
@HoffLensMetalHedLovesAnimalsUK you can't always bring your pets everywhere with you! When I go on vacations I make sure there will be someone to feed and walk my dogs, UNLESS they can go then they will come with me. If we can't ever leave the house without our pets then we would all be lonely hermits. But because pets don't need constant 24/7 attention we can leave for an hour or two or three at a time. And if you leave for a day or a week then you can get someone to watch your pets! You HoffLensMetalHedLovesAnimalsUK are the one that doesn't deserve pets! Please never get a pet, please don't ruin that animals life by being a bad owner! -A concerned otter

You suck as a dog owner, seriously. You leave him home alone when you go on holiday , and someone comes by to walk him, wow you really do suck. Please give him to a family who deserve dogs.
Wrong answer!!!! IF you choose your damn holiday over your pet then you never should own a pet to begin with! Don't tell me no one can take care of your dog or cat whilst you are on holidays...
there is little chance he will survive at a shelter too. Better contact an association and foster it until you find him a new home.
Sad... I know its difficult, in my case I can't go far on holiday cause no one can take care of my dog, but i would never leave him. This people doesn't have feelings?
Not all "abandoned" animals are abandoned on purpose. It's just as sad when someone dies alone and their pets are left alone.
You're right, they aren't but the majority are being abandoned and they aren't just being abandoned at a shelter or in some neighborhood. Dogs and cats have been bound then thrown into a river or traffic. They have been left in a home after the owners moved. There's an entire road in a part of TX that is known to rescue groups as the place to dump unwanted pets, they started putting up cameras to catch them. People even post their pet FOR FREE on Craigslist. Plus, these animals are being abandoned for stupid ass reasons too!
This article is specifically about pets that were abandoned on purpose by people who just view them as toys.
There was recently a woman on my street who died in her basement. They found her body around 3 weeks later. She had a cat a cute sweet cat. The poor cat threw up all over the house bc of lac of food. I couldn’t take the cat bc if my siver allergies she ended up at a no kill shelter.
I live alone. I have two dogs. I have friends and neighbors. I have made arrangements for my dogs. I have a life insurance policy that will take care of their needs after I am gone. All it takes is planning. It is a responsible pet owner that ensures their animals are provided for in the event of their incapacitation or death. There is no excuse to have animals abandoned to fend for themselves because of failure to pre-plan.
Pet sitting and dog hotels can get quite expensive but its honestly like vacation for pets also and totally worth it :)
I have to put my cat into cattery which also has kennel there- I assure you it's nothing like a vacation for any pet- surrounded by other cats meowing, dogs barking- I doubt it's their kind of 'holiday'. I agree on one thing- it's bloody expensive.
Monika Rhodes, our dogs enjoyed it. But of course we found smaller hotel with no cages for dogs and they had huge garden to play all day.
There are no professional pet sitters where you live? Ask at your veterinary clinic. Sometimes vet techs do pet sitting on the side for extra money.
Everyone of them get's more and more hearbreaking. I thought for so many something like - nooo, they would never leave Idefix behind. --- I know it's made just because of this --- But I realized that most of us probably can't even imagine that an imaginary pet get's left behind because it would be too cruel. ---- How terrible is it, that real animals are treated this way. And not only beeing left behind, but also not beeing cared for. So hearbreaking!!!
