10 Comics By French Artist That Raise Public Awareness About The Abandonment Of Pets
To most of us, summer brings joy, great moments, and of course, our long awaited holidays. However, this is not the case for most pets in France as for some of them, summer means stepping out of their comfort and beginning a rough street life. Each year during the summer, around 100,000 pets suddenly become unwanted and abandoned in France. Let’s admit that this number is pretty scary taking into consideration that it’s only for the summer alone!

In fact, they are abandoned because people are unable to find a kennel, a pet-sitter, or take them along, and so they choose to abandon their pets rather than miss out on their holidays. The sad truth is that not all these pets are handed over to a shelter by their owners and that’s how they end up dumped on the streets. Some of them are even euthanized.

All of this happens because we live in a consumer society and a pet is often considered as an impulse buy. People simply buy a pet for their children as a Christmas present and if they become a minor obstacle in planning their holidays, they don’t hesitate to abandon them. But they sometimes forget that a pet is not a toy but a living and loving creature!

Numerous awareness-raising operations have been put in place to open our eyes to this terrible injustice, however, one project stands out of the crowd. The project is called “Summer Adventures” and it is an amateur work by artistic director Nicolas Amiard. The idea of this project is to reflect on this urgent situation and raise public awareness of abandonment.

The series depicts classic comics from our childhood: from Scooby-Doo to the Simpsons and Tintin, Asterix and Pokemon, they all show how the characters from our childhood would feel if they were left out and abandoned on summer holidays. After all, who else would touch our heart more than our childhood comics?

Share on FacebookThis breaks my heart. Take it to a shelter. If you have any heart in you, don't just dump an animal on the side of the road to potentially die.
I agree whole heartily. Some shelters require a fee for you to drop your dog off so that's why so many end up on the street. THIS BY NO MEANS IS AN EXCUSE! I'd like to tie the people who leave them to a post and see how they like it. TO KAI: I have a dog park family and am so grateful that I have 4 people that will watch my Zoe if need be. Some will take her to their home and others will come by and take he out. That's all that I need. Not sure where you live but if you are in the SF Bay Area, I'd like to meet you and maybe our dogs can connect.
Load More Replies...Sad... I know its difficult, in my case I can't go far on holiday cause no one can take care of my dog, but i would never leave him. This people doesn't have feelings?
Not all "abandoned" animals are abandoned on purpose. It's just as sad when someone dies alone and their pets are left alone.
Load More Replies...Everyone of them get's more and more hearbreaking. I thought for so many something like - nooo, they would never leave Idefix behind. --- I know it's made just because of this --- But I realized that most of us probably can't even imagine that an imaginary pet get's left behind because it would be too cruel. ---- How terrible is it, that real animals are treated this way. And not only beeing left behind, but also not beeing cared for. So hearbreaking!!!
I honestly hate people who view pets as an accessory that you can treat as miserably as you like. Sociopaths.
Years ago I was adopted by an abandoned cat. It wasn't enough that somebody had unceremoniously dumped her - she was pregnant. (That could even be why some irresponsible [bleep] dumped her in the first place!) After a little family shmoozing I took her in, dubbed her Ragamuffin, and let her have her babies in my bathroom. Happily, all the kittens found responsible forever homes, and Rags got the "big snip." RIP, Ragamuffin - I will always miss you. I feel so fortunate that you picked me as your new human.
I just understand anybody that would abandon their dog. Would you do that to your child? Your dog IS part of your family. I love coming home to my girls they make me so happy and while I have had to adapt my life because I love them its no problem, you do whatever you need to for those that you love human or animal.
Scumbags who abandon their pets don't deserve to be called human beings. Many years ago I was riding in a car on a busy freeway. I saw a German Shepherd on the side of the road, quickly trotting along to keep up with the flow of traffic. This beautiful dog was desperately looking in every car that passed, hoping to see their "human" who threw them out of the car. I'll never forget that pathetic sight. I hope someone else stopped to take the dog and give it a loving forever home.
I didn’ t have a problem stopping in the middle of a freeway while raining to pick up a dog. F**k traffic, they can wait for five seconds.
Load More Replies...Pokemon dealt with abandonment early on - Charmander was abandoned by his trainer for being weak, and Ash rescued him. The Simpsons one is doubly sad, because Santa's Little Helper was rescued from the dog track by Homer. It's sickening to think that people can so casually abandon animals that trust and depend on them. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but please be responsible! Don't get a pet if you're not prepared to care for it; and if you find you can't for whatever reason, find someone who can!
I know, my son (8) has been watching the old Pokemon eps with me, i forgot about the charmander episode until it came on, it's so awful!
Load More Replies...never had a dog. but my first cat was one who had been abandoned that we took in.
Lazy and self centered people abandon pets. What would you do if you found a toddler just dumped on the freeway. There is the basic human responsibility for doing what is right. You have a pet, you damn well better see to it that that animal is cared for and taken care of. I'm sick of people taking an oath, a vow, a commitment that means absolutely nothing when it becomes too inconvenient. Marriage vows are nothing more than who delivers a great ceremony and wears 3 dresses to the stupid farce. Kids are to be raised by schools and anyone else that can be blamed. Pets are like designer handbags. I'm not impressed by the b******t. Bet there are a few wives and husbands trying to find their way back to their home where they thought live existed. Stand for nothing, fall for anything. That's where we are.
I feel sad about Snoopy. I mean, before Charlie was adopted once, but returned where he was born. I remembered "You have a used dog Charlie" phrase.
When I was younger, I had 2 cats that I had to leave behind when we moved to the US. Came here, my uncle adopted 2 cats for me. I had them for a couple of years. My mom married a d******d and he got rid of them. I promised myself that I would never ever let anything like that happen again in my lifetime. There's absolutely nothing that could make me give up my fur-babies.
this is so sad i would never do that to my dog..if a saw a dog on the road i would take it to a vet to make sure it's okay.but this just breaks my broken heart 😭
Have eight rescue dogs, so everything else revolves around them. That’s the life I chose, and no regrets.
A friend and I worked an election up on the Rez. The dogs up are wild free, and usually have somewhere to go. But not always. We saw a shepherd - coyote mix try to bond with a pack but was rejectted all day. He tried to connect with us, but we had to leave after the polls closed, and the disappeared into the dark. That gog worked on my awareness for a month back in the city. Winter was coming. Finally I couldn't take it any longer, and with another friend, drove the 350 miles back to where we had left the dog. I had done some local research and asking around, and felt justified in taking the dog if he would come. Shortening the story, he was righ near welhere we had left him, but alone and much skinnier. He jumped into my car immediately, signalling, "whre ya been? I thought you'd never get back for me!" Back in town, and though he proved too much for my mother- he was waay too affectionalte- he was perfect for the ahletic young guy fending in my yard, and his 3 young sons! Happy Endin
Someone abandoned a kitten in the LOCKED garage next door to me, in a foreclosed house. It was about 10F/-12C. My now ex-husband spent HOURS on the phone trying to get ahold of someone who could give him the keycode to get the garage unlocked. When he got in, the cat had food, no water, no blanket, and a kitty litter pan that hadn't been cleaned in days. He was still alive miraculously. It would have been better if they'd simply abandoned him outside! Really sick people did that. My husband was a hero to me that day.
People have no heart that can take the cowards way out and just drive down a road, open their car door and push an animal out to find its way in the world. All alone and not knowing why. Don't be cruel. Take them to your nearest "no kill" shelter.
For some reason, pets co tinge to be abandoned and shelters and places have said, just leave the dog or pet, here! Don’t just abandon it! No judgement. But this is truly one of the cruelest and meanest things, not to mention selfish and nasty, a human can do! Our animals know how to love, share, care for, and yearn for their family! Why would you EVER think, they would be ok if you just left them somewhere!? That makes you lower than a human, or a worm amongst worm shot.
I used to admire France because of the "healthier way of eating" for French people in general(compared to the US) but they just got demoted big time. Unacceptable behavior.
My little honey , was tied to someone's gate, however, that was kinder than abandoning her in the woods, because the People were home and heard her barking, then took her to the vets..and I adopted her 4 days later.. A new law here in France is, abandon an animal 30k fine or jail.. Which is good news, however, how will they know who abandoned the poor animal, if no micr chip..
Another thing that happens is that a car accident occurs but the emergency personnel did not know the dog was in the car and they escape. I see it a lot on AZ Straydar in Arizona. It sucks and a lot of us do what we can to get the pet back to the owner or a friend or relative.
There are no circumstance but death in which I would abandon my dogs. I have had so many from pure bred, rescues etc. we are a pack and they will go with me and my hubby.
Shaggy would never leave Scooby. France should follow Sweden's lead & build a facility for ppl to drop off for summer. Would be kind & cost effective. Only Sweden does it with domestic abuse survivors so they can leave with their pet.
I was involved with dog rescue for about 15 years in the US. Start of summer vacation, start of school, winter holidays, were all big dump days. Spring break not so much. All of a sudden, the family couldn't cope with a dog they hadn't bothered to train. So we trained, groomed, loved, and found a forever home for them. Sometimes I hate people, but then you find a wonderful family who cares. Maybe most people aren't so bad after all.
What about cats??? Cats get left behind also. I've seen neighbors move and leave their cat behind. It's heart breaking to hear the cat meowing for its owner to let them in. Day in day out, outside their 🚪 door or window, waiting.
I would’t go anywhere where my pet was not allowed. Take your best friend with you. You will have a much better vacation!!
They love YOU unconditionally- and because you are inconvenienced THEY pay the price. THEY are not a piece of furniture you put in the trash when YOU don’t want it anymore. THEY have nerve endings, emotions, hunger, blood vessels. A chair left by the side of the road doesn’t care about it’s owner. A pet will forever wonder why it was left to die. There is a difference. If YOU cannot see this difference, then YOU should not be a pet owner. Go buy a chair instead.
I have a plan in place that if ANYTHING happens to me my pets and horse are cared for properly. I have an account put aside for this very purpose. I absolutely despise people who treat animals as inconveniences.
So sad. Garfield should have Ben included too. Cats also get abandoned.
It breaks my heart that somone could do this. I got my girl , Barky McWoofwoof, from Manchester Dog's Home and I've had her ten years now. She is amazing. I'm disabled with mental health problems and she just knows when I need her and when I'm stuck in bed, she will lie with me all day. She goes to find my hubby when I have a seizure and she's so gentle with our son who's autistic. She was easy to train and she's never destroyed or damaged anything. She has a toy box of "babies", (sofg tpys), that she just likes to carry around in her mouth or gently chew on. She will return one baby before she gets another and she will root through the box with her nose to find the one she likes. She's never been ill and at fourteen, she's going strong. Pets are living, breathing beings with personalities and so much love to give. You'd have to be a real heartless piece of filth to do this to one.
So sad, i wish i could take in every single abandoned dog and they would never be alone again, this sort of thing keeps me awake at night. On a lighter note, Charlie Brown would never abandon Snoopy.
I'd love to find someone who has done that and tie them up to a post out in the middle of nowhere. "Here, do you think you can survive until somebody finds you? Good luck!"
I'm currently feeding a stray cat that was dropped near my house. It's very skittish so I just put food on the back porch. I live in a rural area and animal drop offs are a daily thing. We try to save as many as we can.
We have always skipped our family trip to Sweden if something comes up or no one can watch out pets. Its easier to get someone watch over the dog then rabbits. Its going to be more diffecult now I own a breed reaching 6+ kg XD. They are around 3+kg now lol. teddy_og_b...4a71e6.jpg
It is true that Simpsons leave their dog home when they go their trips, (and they trip quite frequently by the way)
there was a cute, fluffy stray kitten i was forced to leave with a "friend" because i was not allowed to take her to where i had to move. she was soon picked up by animal control with others from that house :'(
we have neighbors who left a pretty, mostly nice black cat. she wanders to various houses and sometimes wants to be petted; her name is now Marshmallow-due to the white spot on her chest, as if she got into the spreadable creme :)!
Please take her to a no kill shelter or find her a home. All my cats I've ever had are grown up rescues, I generally get the most antisocial ones, but a whole bunch of live and they are a totally new animal
