I love random animal facts. Who doesn't? I mean, just animals in general are amazing, right? But then there are these little things about each one—facts that, once we hear them, tend to stay in our minds.

And as a person myself for almost four decades, I can't help but to personify these facts and wonder how they would translate into our less innocent world. Like, a slug can sleep for 3 years, but then what would his library late fees be like?! What books would he take out? Salt: A Thriller? So I draw them out in my comic, ZOODRAWS.

I’d really love to compile all these facts into a book. In fact, when I started this comic in March, I planned to do just a children's book of "ABC Animal Facts" for my 4-year-old son. He loves nature shows as much as I do, and that’s my main source of new facts. But then... oops, I started drawing dolphins telling each other off and wombats selling their poop as brownies... and Capuchin monkeys peeing on themselves, etc.

So an “ABC Book of Sometimes Appropriate Animal Facts" it will hopefully someday be! Till then, I hope you enjoy these!

My favorite is when they get bitten by venomous snakes. They just take a nap until the venom wears off.

Scientists believe the impact of the calf hitting the ground, actually helps them begin breathing on their own.

Vampire bats are also altruistic. They share blood with cavemates who didn't make a successful hunt. BUT if someone is known to be stingy and not share their blood with others, those others won't share blood with them when they're needed! They're a great example of 'scratch my back I scratch yours'.

On planet Earth, gifting anyone anywhere a cat is good luck in my opinion, because then that person has a cat

That's not entirely true. They can remain stationary in a current.
