2-Month-Old Baby Gets ‘Horrible Disease’ From Unvaccinated Sister, And His Mom’s Reaction Infuriates Everyone

If you’re a regular reader of Bored Panda, you’re probably familiar with our stance on people that refuse to vaccinate their children by now. Yet still the anti-vaccination movement continues to grow, despite all the evidence that it is causing a rise in preventable illnesses such as measles and pertussis .

This mom, who for some reason describes herself as a ‘real mom’ (as opposed to?) took to the internet to share the tragic story of her unvaccinated 2-month-old son, sick in hospital having contracted whooping cough from her unvaccinated daughter: sick kids, both suffering unnecessarily because of a stubborn lack of common sense from their mother.

Perhaps this mom will show some remorse, use her experience to educate others on pro vaccination? Sadly, no. Her narcissistic plea only reinforces the negative image of some anti-vaxxers, that not only are they willing to put the rest of society at risk with their reckless beliefs, but they need their precious egos stroked while doing so. Even when the consequences affect those nearest and dearest to them. Scroll down below to read the maddeningly misguided mom’s story about her sick baby below, and let us know what you think in the comments!

This anti-vax mom recently took to the internet for help

But people couldn’t help but be infuriated by her lack of awareness

So some idiot who refused to vacinate gets to see the terrible consequences on her own child. Yet , the moron still isn't convinced that that is her own fault for not having her kids vaccinated. She even is upset because people shamed her for that. There need to be laws to force parents to vaccinate. No excuses about religion. This is just being stupid.

That guy who published a "scientific" article stating autism is caused by vaccinations but falsified his results to support his unsubstantiated claim should be held to pay restitution for his fearmongering. He should have to cover the cost of all of these easily avoidable medical maladies and should have to start an aggressive campaign to educated the public on the truth and to counter the false one he spawned.

"So I was speeding at 220mph down the busy main street in our town and just after I ran over some jaywalkers and cyclists, there are suddenly other cars in front of me and I have to violently hit the breaks, as I do not believe in seatbelts, my twins in the front seat flew through the front window and landed on an intersection where they were flattended by a steamroller. That dang steam roller was the reason traffic slowed down and I had to hit the breaks in the first place and now it even crushed my kids. Peculiarly, the police didn't even question the driver of the steamroller, but is blaming me instead. Can someone please show me some support? I mean, I am a real mom not one of those responsible fake moms, and I still feel like I'm mom of the decade for that time I got the kids cheetos when they were smoking meth in the backyard, I cannot explain why anyone would not accept my believes. I am the victim here. I believe I am the only I that matters. Also, I! And don't forget, me!"

There are no reliable, vetted reports against vaccination. The single report that was the basis for the anti-vax movement (by Andrew Wakefield) was discredited and retracted. People tend to follow celebrities, without understanding they have no scientific or medical credentials, at times are selling a product/promoting a show and want publicity, and can be utter idiots, just like some of the general populace.

Aunt Messy: I think you didn't read a thing I wrote. You're simply saying what I already said: we vaccinate for dangerous illnesses. We do that because the SMALL BUT REAL risk of vaccinations outweighs the risk of the illness in question. You named some illnesses we vaccinate against. Duh. And you accused me of saying the OPPOSITE of what I actually said. Don't call me names when you're being an idiot. And Γεώργιος Γιολδάσης: another reading fail. I tell my patients to get vaccinations all the time. Once again, you're arguing against a point I didn't make. Please people, if you're going to be insulting, at least read and understand the guy's point. Don't be an A*****E while repeating what he said.

I can tell you a story about a child who wasn't vaccinated. My cousin Tony was not vaccinated and he suffered from stunted mental development, dwarfism and malformed limbs. The disease he wasn't vaccinated against was POLIO. He lived in that condition for 53 years. The vaccine had not been developed when he was born. I don't give rat spit for what this woman "believes". No child should suffer for something preventable

Some literally walk weeks to get them. And if the parents are too busy with stuff at home, one of the older kids will walk weeks with the younger ones who need them. Stupid parents like OP have their little white picket fences, clean neighborhoods, and running water... They think vaccines are created to drain $$$ from the parents, kill their child, or give them autism (antivax's equate autism to death). It's gonna require one hell of a pandemic to maybe grow a few brain cells for them.

In France it is a law. If you don't vaccinate then your kid cannot get into school. 14 compulsory vaccines by the age of 2 months. So if you want to wipe out the French population, you have a simple single vector of attack. Phillip.

Why is she in the HOSPITAL if she doesn't believe in the medicine. Maybe you should take your kids to a witch doctor in a hut somewhere. If one of the Kardashians do it, i bet you will too. I feel sad for her kids growing up with a dimwit mom. Child services should step in for the non vaccinators. It shouldn't be their choice if its for the health of the kids.

I truly hope that her child recovers, but the responsibility for them getting ill rests entirely on her shoulders for not getting her older daughter vaccinated. This may sound harsh, but we could do with this happening a little more to perhaps shock the parents into thinking that maybe vaccinations aren't such a bad thing after all.

I got pertussis when I was 20. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. The coughing is sheer agony and it doesn't stop, no matter what you do. You cough 24/7 and between that, the fever, and the total inability to sleep for more than half an hour at a time is utterly miserable - and it can last for WEEKS. ...///... I was sick for two full weeks and still coughing intermittently a month later. I coughed so hard that I cracked ribs. The higher register of my voice is gone because of scarring in my throat and vocal chords. When I cough now, I sound truly awful - because of the scarring. ...///... I can't imagine the agony that baby is suffering. ...///... Now I have to plug adult vaccinations. The pertussis vaccine is combined with diptheria and tetanus, and they ALL need to be boosted every five to ten years. You CAN get pertussis twice.

There is a part of me that feels sorry for these people who are so completely stupid, that they simply cannot or will not understand the science behind vaccines. However, I can't sustain that sympathy when the price is paid not only with their children's health and lives, but possibly the lives of the babies they come into contact with who have not reached vaccination age. It needs to be a crime. It is child endangerment.

I will never understand why this doesn't count as reckless endangerment. I swear, if it was after me, you'd get a warning handed to you with a date by which your child will need to have all of their vaccinations. If they do not have it by then, ALL dependants will be removed from your care, parental rights terminated and you are going to jail.

Sadly, I believe that this lady will find "validation" from her antivaxx peers, and this may not only cause her son and daughter to suffer, but she could also lose one or both to those deadly diseases in the end. All this grief, based on a very discredited, and disbarred British "doctor," Andrew Jeremy Wakefield. The hippocratic oath seems to be lost on him.

We have an instinct to go against what the world is telling us. The same happened with the FDA and food safety: for years people lobbied for better food safety laws. Now that we have them, the raw food movement is taking off. If tomorrow officials said "stop vaccinating your kids," people would form a countermovement to keep vaccinating. Whether it's right or not is almost irrelevant when it gets to that point. It's just so terrible how many kids have to suffer from it.. you want to follow a countermovement, fine. But please don't drag your kids into it.. :(

I know a family whose ( unvaccinated)son was in ICU septic in a coma and almost died due to a case of Chicken Pox (!) that he caught when he was recovering from strep throat. Yup, Chicken Pox...the "inconvenient" sickness that now has a vaccine. Not just because it's a PITA when your kid gets it and makes you stay home from work to take care of them... but because it too can become deadly if your kid's immune system doesn't have the strength to defend against this common illness.

That woman is a fool, and a dangerous one at that. People like that should be either sued or arrested for reckless endangerment of other people's lives, if such a category exists, and if it doesn't it should be created. What's this nonsense about not vaccinating kids about since the study that showed a link between vaccines and Autism has since been proven a fraud, and the doctor who published it lost his license? They are not only putting their own kids in harm's way but also all those people who have lowered immune systems because of transplanted organs. This is criminal behavior.

Social services should take her children away. If you don't choose to protect your children, it means they could be the carrier of a virus or bacteria that could harm kids with bad immune systems or just cannot get vaxxed because of another illness. If you chose to not protect your babies against the illnesses that may come, if you reject the treatment, then don't waste doctors' precious time when your children are sick. It was a choice. Made by parents. They decided that they're smarter than doctors and their children are stronger than the rest of the people who get vaxxed. Yes, children do suffer, but unfortunately, that kind of people shouldn't be allowed to breed anyways. These are the people that'd reject a possible miracle medicine for plague in mid-ages. Natural selection.

She and the father need to be charged with child endangerment, child abuse, and torture for the pain both kids are going through. Her parental rights and those of the father should be terminated. They are both responsible for making sure those kids were well taken care of and had proper medical care. My Dad deferred to my mother on many medical issues because she was a medical researcher. Smallpox vax was still required back then. When my doctor said I couldn't have it because of a genetic skin condition - both my Mom and Dad had a meeting with 3 different doctors confirming the information before deciding that was the best course of action. The same thing happened several times because I have several interrelated medical conditions.

These parents are just as bad as the parents that leave their kids in a hot car and when they die, ask why and spout out how they "forgot" their kids were in the car. When will we finally force people to be licensed to breed, this is getting WAY out of hand. Hell, I had an argument with my 14 YO SON because I told him next week he is starting the vaccines for HPV because I'd rather him be safe. I wish they had that vaccine when I was a child. Some of these "parents" should've just swallowed I swear. These poor kids.

If not vaccinating only affected your children, and no one else, fine, don’t vaccinate. But... it does! And you don’t know who it will and won’t affect! Your child may be exposed and in that time frame before the disease makes its appearance symptom wise, your unvaccinated child has exposed all those other people and children! And if even one of those people is immunocompromised, they will likely die, or expose someone they know and love, to the disease, and you, not your child, are now responsible for an epidemic or the death of maybe one maybe more, people who got exposed! I think, if you chose to not vaccinate your child or children, you need to carry some kind of insurance that pays out whenever someone can trace a death or serious medical incident, back to the fact , you didn’t vaccinate your child/ children. Very expensive decision to make, when vaccinating is both cheaper, and safer.

Heck, even if it only impacted their own children and no one else, it'd still be bad - they have a duty of care, and a legal obligation to keep their kids safe. Denying them medical care, potentially leading to death or permanent damage? Yeah....not cool. Kids shouldn't have to suffer the consequences of their parents narcissism.

I live in Finland and here most of the anti-vaxers are some over religious people from some Christian revival groups. Those people usually have plenty of children (because birth control is a sin) and because all of those children are not vaccinated that has caused many serious problems. :(

Perhaps anti-vaccine people should be prosecuted for manslaughter if their children die of diseases that killed millions before the vaccines were invented. Unfortunately, you can't change abysmal stupidity and it's hard to get rid of junk science.

Our fellow Panda C says in her comment " If you want to take health risks, take them on yourself, not your babies." True indeed. But when we are talking about vaccinating our children, the militant anti-vaxxers do not take any particularly large health risks with their own children, since they are presumably healthy little kids. - - - THEY ARE CONSCIOUSLY GAMBLING WITH THE LIVES OF CHILDREN WHO CANNOT HAVE VACCINES BECAUSE OF PRECARIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS! Narcissist idiots who reason that "I believe" is worth as much as "I know". There are already other people's children who have paid with their lives for anti-vaxxer folly. Grrrrrrr.

The hospital administration and the state should be allowed to take her kid away for child neglect for not vaccinating that child. I was shocked to find out the allowances of neglect parents had per state when I lived in the USA. The Ohio stories of the young adults in wheelchairs suing their parents for praying over them when they were kids and had drug curable diseases, are body aching shocking

I once had croup. It's not pertussis but it's similar. My throat hurt like hell, I coughed nonstop, and I felt like I was going to drop dead on the floor. I was vomiting hard and I was shaking vigorously due to panic. If this is a mild form, I can't believe what kind of living hell pertussis is, especially for a baby. Mom-shaming? No, we're dumbass-shaming, fuckwad child murder. Congrats on being a waste of oxygen.

I'm usually not one to be litigious. However, maybe money is the thing these parents will listen to. Hospitals, Doctor's offices...anyone put at risk for the illness risk these stupid moms are subjecting their children to should sue. Secondly, while it isn't illegal not to vaccinate, maybe Child &Family Services should step in because if this isn't neglect and/or abuse, what is. It is unconscionable that these moms like this one don't see the light even after her baby gets sick because of her neglect! Our children rely on us for their lives. If a mother puts that child at risk, she should be held liable and her other children removed! Then, maybe, she'll know true suffering!

immigrants from south American countries don't have vaccines so carry the illness & people like you who don't vaccinate your babies have brought back diseases in America that have been controlled by vaccines for years, you are as proud at being a mom as a stray animal & almost as smart, they don't vaccinate either. today your son has whooping cough, & your still proud, who knows by this time next year one of your kids may have polio, or worse, don't forget to show your pride while you make their funeral plans.

I feel bad for her and her children. She made the wrong decision and her children are paying the consequences. Vaccines scare me but the diseases they prevent and the thought of my children suffering scare me even more. I can see where it would be easy to fall into believing you are doing the right thing for your child by not vaccinating them if you are uneducated and surrounded by others that push it. I think these stories need to be shared more but they won't be if people are viciously attacking the parents. They'll keep it on the down low and then the general population will think it does not happen very often thereby encouraging more anti-vaxxers. She knows she did wrong. No one has to tell her that. I try to stick to natural remedies as much as I can because I do not believe that "Big Pharma" always has our best interest in mind. With that being said, we also need to educate ourselves to know when we need "Big Pharma" and when we just need mom's chicken soup or natural remedies.

Vaccines shouldn't really scare you anymore than any medication your doctor prescribes. Or any operation you or your children might undergo. They all have risks attached. No big corporate is without people at the top coining it in but I hope that the scientists are doing it for the right reasons (or most of them). Natural remedies aren't always healthy or effective - it's an unregulated industry so it pays to take care. It is definitely worth reading as much material as you can on these kinds of things but not what the latest celeb has to say or what is written in the press. For any treatment - natural or man made - look for genuine studies undertaken by people with qualifications. They are worth making the effort to read. You can't do anymore than that.

" I'm a real mom" Oh no you're not. If you were your children would have been vaccinated. I love how she goes on and on talking about herself and needing validation for the fact that she willingly and knowingly put both of her children's life in danger all because she decided to believe something that is absolutely asinine. What she should be asking the doctors, is if I get my children vaccinated now what other diseases can I prevent them from getting? Will my children ever forgive me for placing them in this life or death situation? Instead of seeking validation for something that was absolutely stupid and careless, she needs to take a step back realize that this is not about her needing validation to do the right thing. This is about her coming to terms with the fact that she was wrong which we're all human so we're going to be wrong at some point in time, and make the right decision to get her children vaccinated from this point on. If her children die, she should be banned from having anymore kids. It's obvious that someone this insanely stupid doesn't need to procreate ever again.

MMR should be a one time shot. I only know this because we updated our own vaccines recently. What DOES need to be boosted is tetanus and pertussis. Those must be renewed every ten years at least. We got the shingles vaccine as well (it does make you feel lousy for a day), meningitis, and we still have to get Hep A and B vaccines. ...///... I don't plan on getting sick when I travel, thanks.

WHOOOOOOOO! I'm coming from a country who discover the rabies vaccine, and i'm a scientist. You are very sick! There are a lot of diseases that you are vaccinate against any scientist recomandations. The tetanus: you have to be in necrosis state somewhere and sadly encounters tetanus just on your necrosis to get it.(with some unluck). I don't know how your state vaccinate but this is pure crazyness. No you can't get tetanus "like that", you have to be in necrosis then have some scratch in it and maybe the tetanus will live in you. If you work in gardening, farming (horses), then right, but if you don't.NO. There is no way in(it needs oxygen, this is in your blood right?). I really like how people judge eatch other, knowing nothing! I pity this poor gal as i pity you, all judgemental about her. DUMBASSES (yes i'm french)

Baaahhh!.....Baaaaahhh!.....Baaahh! Sheep. This post is so bogus that I am amazed anyone takes it seriously. But aside from that, all health care choices are personal. To get a flu shot or not...to take anti-depressants or not...to permit life-extending interventions or not. Other peoples decisions about health care are NOT YOUR BUSINESS!!! If a parent here or there chooses not to have their kids vaccinated ( and there are reasons not to..scientifically-based for some people) so what? Why is it your business? Vaccinate your kids and shut up.

My advice to her is don't worry about it. I definitely had mumps and measles, can't remember if I had whooping cough. Painful at the time but no big deal. He'll get over it. Catching it and getting over it is nature's way of vaccinating you. At that age he won't even remember it. Phillip.

Yes, coughing so hard that it makes you vomit and hyperventilate in a panic all day and night long, is surely "no big deal" to a person, let alone a two month old! You clearly have no clue what a horrific disease whooping cough is. The people who die of this are usually babies.

1. Should you believe every word said by someone who you know for a fact lies to you all the time? That "person" is your government and all the corporations that own them. 2. It is the government and their owners, the corporations that tell you everything they want you to know, and nothing they do not want you to know. 3. The government owns the patents on many of the vaccines they mandate for our children. 4.The corporations that run the government are only interested in making money. That is all they do, and all they care about. Only a fool would believe they care in any way shape or form about anyone's health. Healthy people do not pump billions of dollars into corporate coffers. 5. Why would anyone put a chemical into their newborn child, without first researching the findings of independent studies. All studies relied upon by doctors are done by the makers of the vaccines. ALL OF THEM. Conflict of interest much? 6. Please watch "The Truth About Vaccines" by Ty Bolinger.

If "big pharma" wanted to make REAL money, they'd never make vaccines. Instead, they'd invest in children's wards in hospitals, manufacture millions of doses of palliatives, and buy funeral homes. There's a LOT more money in those than vaccines.

What about the real moms who do vaccinate and have said the same thing, they watch their child suffer from from an adverse vaccine reaction? There is a risk in either choice, what is missing from this polarizing discussion is that true informed consent doesn't exist for vaccinations. There is so much fabricated information about vaccine safety and efficacy that most people do not realize what they passionately believe is false, regardless of what side they take. Why do we allow ourselves to keep fighting over this misrepresented topic instead of demanding clear, independent, unbiased studies be done so we can all benefit from the truth? Why not start with demanding a double blind placebo controlled study? These studies are the gold standard for all other medications and interventions, lets demand that vaccines be included within these standards. Let's advance this debate past the name calling, insulting and emotionally charged vicious cycle it currently exists in.

They already are. Vaccines go through so much more testing than most other medications, to claim otherwise is just ignorant. While I can appreciate your call for calm discussions, you are essentially trying to give the anti-vaccination movement a pass until tests prove what's already been proven time and time again! You want 100% reliability? Such a thing does not exist, for any medication. Instead, we look for what will reliably work in the greatest number of cases, and vaccines do that. Even better, for the (exceedingly) small percentage of cases where vaccines fail or are otherwise unsafe, herd immunity kicks in.

You can tell when someone is lying because they condemn and pillory anyone who even suggests there is another side to any question. There are plenty of sides to the vaccine question, and, yes it is a question, not a complete certainty. People who believe what they are told, without asking a single question or doing any of their own research whatsoever are fools. Spend about half the time researching vaccines as you spend picking out your new iphone, and the truth will be revealed to you.

I am a mother of a 17 year old son with autism. I STRONGLY suspect that the vaccination caused it, because right after his vaccination...he suddenly began exhibiting symptoms of autism. That being said, I dont believe it was the vaccine, but the preservative Thimerisol. Vaccines can be tricky. However, the answer is NOT to not vaccinate your children! That is playing russian roulette with your childs life! The answer is to practice due diligence in the schedule of the vaccinations! I believe the trouble may also lie within how many vaccines babys get ALL at one time! ALL vaccinations should be given to children! The only thing I would do differently is spred them out a bit more and give the final infant vaccination when they are a bit older, like six months to a year later! DONT THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH WATER!! That means that tho are very small risks in some vaccines, dont TOTALLY cut out ALL vaccines! The benefits FAR outweigh the risks!

Autism has absolutely nothing to do with the vaccine, or any parts of the vaccine, whatsoever. Research after research has been conducted since Wakefield's report and they cannot replicate his results (because they were false) and they cannot find any link of ANY kind to autism. The vaccine is given at the same time that children typically start showing signs of autism. That is the only connection - TIMING. Research is starting to show other factors may play a part. As for the timings of vaccinations these are very carefully planned out to work to the best advantage of the child. Update your information for goodness sake.

What is your point here..? Are you saying, that you're in good health because you didn't get vaccinated? Or that your health is so good, you don't need vaccines..? You're wrong. Even if you're only sick once in your life, that could be the one time that causes permanent damage because you're not vaccinated. Or even worse, the one time you pass on a disease and infect an infant who is not yet vaccinated. It's just selfish and stupid either way. No excuse is acceptable for endangering other peoples lives.

He should have to cover the cost of all of these easily avoidable medical maladies and should have to start an aggressive campaign to educated the public on the truth and to counter the false one he spawned.

That being said though, I myself don't get a flu shot. Every time I've gotten it I have had hives. I'm allergic to the fluid they use to stabilize the weakened flu bug. So for me I have to weigh the risk. Flu or hives, hives or flu?

When my son had a meningitis scare at 9 months old I took my boy to hospital and rung my mum for help.He was fine after a few rounds of IV antibiotics. I didn't post it around the internet because I was too busy looking after my boy and sleeping is shifts with my husband. Not only is she an idiot, but she is an attention seeking idiot. Before anyone asks we do vaccinate but he was still very young and had not at that point had all his shots.

I'm old enough to remember loved ones dieing from Polio and German Measles. I feel sorry for your kids that you are their mother.

THanks to anti-vaxxers, we have to get MMR boosters into adulthood now where I live. Oh, and for the thalidomide crowd: You can request thalidomide-free vaccines. VACCINATION SAVES LIVES.

DUMBASSES (yes i'm french)

...not one thing you said was correct. Do you even know what necrosis means? Tetanus lives in the soil. If you get pricked by a rose thorn or scrape your knees in the garden, that can be enough.

Vaccines are settled science. There is no "debate" and this is not a "discussion". Unvaccinated people die, and those who choose not to be vaccinated kill others. Your "research" is shite.

This is not a genuine post. Anyone with half a brain would know if their older child had whooping cough. It's kind of obvious when they're coughing. The hospital would not have had to tell her that the baby got it from her unvaccinated older child. You all don't know BS when it's slung in your faces.
