Entitled Jerk Keeps Parking His BMW In Emergency Vehicle Spot, Regrets Doing So After Female Firefighter Teaches Him A Lesson

Whether we’re talking about signs or verbal warnings, some people just don’t get the message. Or, like this man that Reddit user Chef-231 had to deal with at one point, straight up refuse to.

A few days ago, the woman submitted a story to the ‘Pro Revenge’ community about an entitled guy who kept parking in an emergency vehicle spot at a grocery store where her friend worked as a manager.

The dude was being a real jerk about it too, dismissing all polite requests her friend made to get him to park his car a few feet further away. Like a dog marking his territory, the man “claimed” it and wouldn’t let go without a fight.

So when the woman, who then worked as a firefighter, heard about the situation, she gave him one.

Jane Adams, Ph.D., who has been researching and reporting on how American families respond to social change for over three decades, describes entitlement as an enduring personality trait, characterized by the belief that one deserves preferences and resources that others do not.

“Like boundaries, we recognize entitlement chiefly by its effect on us: envy, anger, and frustration: ‘Why do they think they deserve it any more than I do?’ we wonder. And then, ‘Is it them, or is it just me?'” she pointed out in Psychology Today.

While this was a clear-cut case, under different circumstances we might mistake entitlement for a sense of self-confidence projected by competent, assured, and often charismatic people.

“Sometimes we confuse it with narcissism, with which it’s often associated, or self-absorption, which occasionally looks like the same thing,” Adams said, adding that a bit of a fleeting, situational rush of entitlement can actually be a good thing; it can increase creativity and lead to novel, unusual solutions to problems, the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that organizations and employers encourage.

“Whether deserved or not, a sense of entitlement enables people to think and act differently from others, and the more they do so, the more willing and able they are to generate creative ideas,” she explained.

According to a recent study, the average entitled person doesn’t follow instructions because they see them as unfair. “They would rather take a loss themselves than agree to something unfair,” said the authors, who correlated high scores on entitlement measurements with difficulty complying with the ‘rules’ of the experimental task.

Attempting to understand why students ignored them (selfishness, control, or punishment), they found that fairness was actually the primary reason.

“When people feel entitled, they want to be different from others. But just as frequently, they come across as indifferent to others. That’s why they often provoke such negative responses in those they encounter, especially those they don’t personally know,” Adams said.

However, people change. So given the fact that this happened 15 years ago, maybe the BMW owner became a better man too?

People were happy to hear the jerk got what he deserved

I was thinking the same thing. It was way too "fantasy argument" to be a real scenario.

The writing and grammar are atrocious and not believable for someone who's job requires a lot of report writing. Not buying this story.

It isn't the store's policy but the city's or county's. So it would be up to the police. In our area, the police actually have special patrols for parking lots and ticket these kind of jerks.

Destroying private property for the sake of a fire drill is not the way to go. Now if it had been a real fire, it would be different, but it sounds like they set out to destroy his car. This is no different than if she had pulled up and started hitting it with a hammer. Not defending the guy parking his car there but the response is not appropriate. But since this is all made up I guess it doesn't really matter.

To fake a fire drill is a waste of taxers money. Also, call by-law enforcement instead of the fire station; they know how to do their job without faking anything. They'll slap a ticket just the same way with the other special parking spaces - except the one for new parents (that's just curtesy).

The jerk of the story is obviously in the wrong for parking where he did and absolutely should've been held accountable but, if true, how OP went about it sounds pretty out of order. If I understood correctly, she got her friend to pull a fire alarm deliberately so she could turn up with the fire engine and cops, just so they could destroy the jerk's car for a non-existent fire? It's all pretty calculated and pretty shitty really. The jerk is definitely still a mega jerk but the response to it doesn't sound lawful at all. And am I right that he pushed her because she pushed him first? If I've got it wrong can somebody correct me? I'm English so don't know the rules that are in place for situations like this in the US.

Fake story, I'll bet, or at least seriously embroidered. I don't doubt there are jerks who park in emerg vehicle spots, and I don't doubt such jerks are rude, but nothing else of this story rings true - the dialogue sounds fake, and I don't believe that an entire fire station faked a fire call so they could go crush a vehicle at a false alarm. This sounds like a revenge fantasy, all smoke, no fire.

I don't think it was too much of a reaction to someone parking in the emergency vehicle parking. Those spots are meant for emergencies so the firefighters didn't do anything wrong and the guy got what he deserves. If the fire fighters or police were too concerned with preserving that guys car that's illegally parked then if there was a real emergency, the responders would be hampered. This is why we move out of their way when they're blaring the siren and lights on the road!

You can't damage someone's car for a fire drill, or a non-existent fire. That is completely illegal. This entire story is a lie. Also, a fire inspector can't write a ticket for parking in a fire lane unless there is a fire, at least in my state.

This has a lot of red flags for plausibility. Why does the height/weight/ethnicity have to do with any of this story, cop (in the US), will not ticket someone parking illegally on private property, the worst they will do if trespassing, and only if property owner presses charges, the fact that a manger of a grocery store purposely set of fire alarm (could be a hefty fine for a false alarm for the business, and a fine and loss of job for manager), and lastly that the OP tackled the jerk along with the cops, AND tells the jerk he’s under arrest? Really? Did OP watch too much Chicago Fire?

If this is true, which I doubt, she should be arrested or suspended without pay at the very least. An outrageous abuse of her position. Not to mention the suspension of the chief, the charges against the store manager for doing a fake fire alarm, the use of city vehicles for a fake call out...blah blah blah..I think this was written by an 11 yr. old kid to be honest. We used to have the odd clown get right in behind us as we were responding to an incident. The police were often there before us so would just radio ahead to have a reception ready for our tailgaters. Worst case was one who plowed into the back of a pumper when it stopped at the scene.

This is absolutely FAKE. You can't just crush a car with a firetruck without a real incident and an investigation as to why the car was crushed. You can't just pull a fire alarm for no reason. They would have asked Bob why he pulled the alarm, and if he didn't have a good reason, he would receive a bill from the city for pulling the alarm for a false reason, similar to calling 911 for something stupid. Not only that, but the entitled jerk would be able to sue the city for millions. Also, a firefighter is not allowed to apprehend anyone. Her claiming she helped the police tackle the guy would get her fired. There was one jerk and 3 cops, I seriously doubt that they would have needed help tackling one guy. Why do people feel the need to make up stories online? Do you have no life? Is that what it is? Just stop. In reality, the store owner would either call the police, or some stores have an account with a towing company and Bob would have called them. Everyone lies on here.
