I first went to the Antarctic in 1999, it was then I was first captivated by the beauty of the southern ice. The shapes, the light. Most bergs begin life as very large tabular bergs. But over time, the elements sculpt these into amazing shapes. Even in a heavy state of decay they can still appear very photogenic, like some alien frozen landscape. Silent and still.
The Antarctic is an amazing place, one nature’s most fantastic art galleries, which allows visitors a brief view of its collection of fine art ice in the southern summer months. Over the years, I have never been tired of seeing those remarkable cathedral-like structures and photographing them. Each season I spend in the Antarctic I’m treated to new and wondrous sights.
