Recently, an 8-year-old Chinese boy walked approximately 3 miles (4,8 km) to his Zhuanshanbao Primary School in the township of Xinjie in Yunnan Province, China. In 16°F (-9°C) cold. To take an exam. After his trek went viral, people started contacting the school, trying to contribute in any way they could to improve learning conditions for him and other students.
Fu Heng, the headmaster of the primary school, could not believe his eyes. Upon arrival, his student had icicles instead of his hair and eyebrows, contrasting with his burning red cheeks. Heng snapped a picture of the little fellow, marking the beginning of this crazy story. The internet has dubbed him as “Ice Boy,” and soon the school has received more than $15,000 in donations, 20 heating equipment and 144 warm set of clothes.
“It was the first day of their final exams,” Heng said. “The temperatures dropped to minus nine degrees Celsius in about 30 minutes that morning.” The headmaster claimed the boy lives far away from the school. Heng also noted that he is considered as the “class clown”, constantly finding ways to make his 16 classmates die of laughter. It’s crazy to think the boy maintains a positive attitude, despite living in extreme poverty and spending most of the time with his sister and grandma only.
According to Fu, the school tries to watch over him and others as much as it can, providing them with breakfast but admitted that their classrooms weren’t properly heated due to a lack of funding. Moved by the boy’s will, people on the internet hope he can build himself a better life if he continues to put his education first.

He lives in poor conditions, but remains certain his life will get better if only he gets educated

I love this side of Internet where people in need get helped because of an online post. :)
It's great that he and his school got some assistance. Hopefully they have the money for the electricity to run the heating units. It's unfortunate that there are so many children that could use help but don't get it because people don't realize the need. Out of sight, our of mind.
I would rather say there r way 2 many problems to be taken care of in the world so I don’t really agree with ur ‘out of sight out of mind’ theory’... china is a growing country there r just 2 many problems man seriously u don’t k shit about how many problems there r... it’s great if the rich can help the poor but it’s no way to stop the ‘actual ‘ problem that is causing the poverty........ ... china is a growing country and such sacrifice is need for the country to be better ..... watch some some chinese documentaries if u got a chance
It’s really sad when I was in elementary school in china my hands r all frozen like actually frozen to a point I can’t hold shit. And we r forced to wear thic coats instead... we don’t have this concept of ‘heater’ in china and the school I went to is a pretty expansive private school... imagine what life was like in poor places
As a chinese student I can fucking assure u that they don’t have heaters... it’s more of an American/Canadian thang
Shiyi Yu I have watched many of these Chinese documentaries. It saddens me when I think about what is happening in China. I have a disabled husband and two sons and live literally paycheck to paycheck. We go without a lot of things that others consider necessary for day to day life. Yet we have so much more compared to these people. What I meant about my out of sight, out of mind comment was that some people think they can toss a little money their way and it makes things better. They don't think about the big picture. It eases their conscience to think they helped and the they can go about their business. Something needs to be done to address the issues in the long term.
lisa H, from other photos of the school, it does appear that they do indeed have electricity. As far as being able to actual afford said electricity to run the heaters is another story.
That was my thought. Many homes are without electricity. I wonder if the school can actually use those heaters.
Same man and I want more ppl to fucking have posts like this to help more ppl
and while this happend they are ten of thousand of kids who try everyting to not go in school! this kid know that Learning is important
Look at his determination to be in a better position. Reminds me of the quote that when life squeezes you, the only way you go is UP!
This kid is incredible!!!
