The I Totally Remember That Instagram account has been around since 2017 and has amassed an impressive 34K followers. It shares plenty of memes, photos of old-school items and videos that might instantly transport you back in time. To learn more about this popular page, we got in touch with the account's creator, Emanuel, who was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda.
"I started I Totally Remember That as a way to celebrate the things that defined our childhoods. I would often come across posts and I would say, 'I totally remember that!' And the name of the page just came to me that way," Emanuel explained.
"It is those small, everyday moments that instantly take you back in time. As a Gen Xer, I love reminiscing about the toys, TV shows, and trends that shaped my generation, and I realized so many people feel the same way," he continued. "Seeing the page grow has been amazing. It’s like one big reunion where everyone shares their own memories and experiences."
We were also curious about how Emanual decides what to post on I Totally Remember that. "It’s a mix of everything. Some posts come from my own nostalgia trips, others are inspired by things I stumble upon online, and I also get great submissions from followers," he shared.
"The goal is always to post things that feel real, or make you say, 'I totally remember that,'" the creator noted. "They are memories that make you laugh, say 'Oh wow, I forgot about that!' or just feel a bit of that childhood magic again."
So does the creator have any favorite pics that he's ever shared?
"There are so many, but I always love the ones that bring back a very specific but universal experience, like using a pencil to rewind a cassette tape, blowing into a Nintendo cartridge, or hearing the THX intro in a movie theater and feeling like the world was ending," Emanuel told Bored Panda. "The best posts are the ones where people flood the comments with their own stories. I really like when they do that, it makes it very interactive and reminiscent. It turns into a collective memory lane."
Emanuel also says he's partial to a few special decades. "The late ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s are my sweet spot," he shared. "That was a time in my childhood, and I find I can relate more, especially in the comments. And before everything went digital, when we had to wait for things, make mixtapes, or record songs off the radio. There’s something special about that era, and I think that’s why nostalgia for it is so strong. As a Gen X, I feel we are in both worlds."
Finally, Emanuel added, "Nostalgia is more than just remembering things, it really is about reconnecting with who we were back then. I love that this page brings people together through those shared experiences, and I’m grateful for everyone who’s along for the ride!"

Most of us have a habit of romanticizing the past. “If only I was born in the ‘70s, I would have had the BEST style!” Or, “The ‘80s was the best decade for music; it’s just not the same today!” While this is perfectly normal, The New York Times notes that we should remember that “the good old days” weren’t necessarily much better than today.
Felipe de Brigard, a professor of philosophy, psychology and neuroscience at Duke University, told The New York Times that romanticizing the past is actually a coping mechanism. “You have to carry your past with you. If a memory hurt every time that you recalled it as much as when you experienced it, that would be unbearable," he explained. This is also why we often look back on our past relationships only remembering the good parts of our exes, and we might even forget why the breakup happened in the first place.
But just because your memory isn't always the most reliable source doesn’t mean that your good memories should be dismissed. Being able to enjoy parts of your past is a beautiful thing, and you should hold onto those great memories, especially if they’re serving you.
“Nostalgia is an important psychological resource,” Anne Wilson, a professor of psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University, told The New York Times. “People can dip into the past, especially when the present is not sustaining them.”
And yet, every PC build I do for myself still has a DVD burner.
We hope you’re having a great time looking back on these reminders of the past, pandas. Keep upvoting the pics that bring back great memories for you, and let us know in the comments below what you miss from those simpler times. It was the summer after my Sr. year in high school. I was working for Pizza Hut. One of my coworkers was saving up the 5gal jugs our fry oil came in for water jugs, just in case. I was confident things would be fine. We had YEARS of warning. Some people just want the world to end. I remember getting into it with a Mayan Calendar guy at a bar 20 years ago when that was a thing. He almost took a swing at me for calling out his BS.
That Christmas I got a camping lantern and other "survival" type stuff, mostly as jokes, but I've used everything I got.
Load More Replies...People mocked the whole Y2K thing as being anticlimactic, but it was a real, serious problem. It was brought to attention early enough that work to fix it could be done. Nothing major happened, but a few minor problems show what could have happened.
It bothers me so much when people say it was a hoax cause nothing happened. The age old adage of no one notices when things go right.
Load More Replies...We made it through Y2K, because of all of the IT people that worked around the clock to make sure s**t didn't crash. Our IT people at our Blood Bank and the Hospitals are f*****g Rockstar's, because those guys were working 24/7 for over a year leading up to Y2K, just to make sure everything went smoothly. IT technicians around the world saved our asses, especially since they had to deal with multiple time zones, they're the reason that nothing catastrophic happened.
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!! There was no bs to the concerns - they were handled by professionals in their field kicking butt to make sure things turned out ok for all of us. It seems unfortunately typical that when some group works hard to prevent a crises, too many people look at that as proof there was never a problem in the first place.
Load More Replies...I was working night audit that night. Had to shut down all the computers and reboot them with this special disc HQ sent out.
I spent New Year's Eve 1999 hopping along a ridge on the Yorkshire Moors in a sleeping bag so I could watch the sunrise with my friends. It was the last year of school for us, so we were united in our optimism for the future and also our melancholy. Yes, we had had quite a lot to drink. Yes, someone started crying when I played some old ballads on the piano, although the theme from Titanic was the real tear-jerker as I recall.
I love your story but that piano had to be tough to get up that ridge! :)

Since I lived through it, I set them straight on how people really were scared, some to the point of paranoia, and even included a couple links to articles that went into more detail. The Reddit kids honestly had no idea what a big deal this was at the time.
Everyone gathered at BIL&SIL house: "3--2--1" lights go out.. BIL rumbles from the corner "just kidding" Heh heh" turns the light back on.
At the time I was working for an IT company that was responsible for keeping all the medical devices running (in every hospital in the country) despite the huge black out we expected. We "changed" the millenium at the office waiting for the unthinkable just to make sure no life would be jeopardised... Thank God all ended up well. Happy new year Donald!
Our IT people at our Blood Bank and the Hospitals worked 24/7 for a year leading up to Y2K, just to make sure that everything would transition over with no problems. I stated in a previous comment, that it pisses me off when people say "Nothing" happened. That's because IT people all over the world, dealing with different time zones, busted their asses to make sure that something catastrophic didn't happen when everything rolled over.

I was in Udaipur at the time (New Year's Eve in Rajastan is decidedly anticlimactic), not a computer in sight, nothing happened.
Mostly because measures had been taken over the years to ensure nothing would happen ;)

Pretty much guaranteed. In Jr. High (I'm that old OK), I was in the Special Ed. class with all the trouble makers who were probably headed to Juvie eventually. I remember specifically a day our teacher came in and put on the 90210 finale. Pretty sure she was at a watch party the night before because that's when it came out. I learned NOTHING that day.
My uncle used to play the theme song on the piano. He had a cockatiel that learned it, he would whistle it until about half way through, then he'd make sounds like he was having an apoplectic fit, and then finish the song. He did this for years and they had no clue why. I was listening to my uncle play and I finally put together what Beaker was doing. When my uncle would mess up a note he would slam all his finger of both hands on the piano keys and curse a bunch, then he would finish the song from where he stopped. Beaker was copying him playing it wrong.
Plz egg-splanen😂 no seriosly was born more resemtly and don't get this
Some say that's the Disney animated film that launched the entire Furry movement.
Two years ago, I had a computer made and had a floppy disk drive and a cd burner installed. I still use both.
Sopranos, baby. I have the Sopranos cookbook! All the recipes of all the food from the show.
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star has the same tune as the alphabet song. ♫ABCDEFG♫
So this looks creepier than the original version. The functional version had eyes that opened up when you picked up the phone. Actually not sure that makes it better.
Time ZERO was Midnight. The time when the sun was at it's lowest point because changing dates when everyone was awake in the middle of the day was a really dumb idea. We get this from ancient Babylon. Same reason we have 60m hours and 60s minutes. They liked that number for some reason. So with ZERO being Midnight, it made sense for noon to be 12 because the Babylonians liked 12 and 24 too. Shorter answer, It's all arbitrary so relax.
I had ones that went on the bottom of my shoes. They were metal with resin wheels.
They claimed that it didn't do anything. But we all knew the truth.
Okay i googled it and a lot of sources are saying they are baby teeth.... ?
I was in college BEFORE Facebook. Facebook came out my Sr. year. Myspace the year before. Never used either. I think that makes me the end of Gen-X.
I sure low quality MP3 have caused the generation the used them to be completely tone deaf that's why now they can't tell the difference between a real singer and an autotune monkey.
I was in a store on Cape Cod in the 70's and a kid in shorts, barefoot, had a bottle explode in his arms. If course he dropped it, and now he's barefoot in the center of a pool of glass. I and another guy picked him up and carried him to clear floor, and the manager gave him a new bottle for free, and sent him off.
I'll take you back a bit...The wedding of Luke and Lara on General Hospital
Bill Clinton was president. The US was apparently involved in one war. The Internet was taking the world as a whole by storm. Oh and Green Day and Metallica either did or did not suck then and do or do not suck now depending on your personal music preferences. Is that more accurate?
Amazingly enough, probably the least scary easter bunny suit I've ever seen.
Please BP, stop these post, They make me feel old for I recognize way too much of them. On the other side... DAMN those are GOOD memories. I count myself lucky to still have a full functioning cassette player (and my 70's and 80's tapes) as well as my LP record player and records. Not to brag, but DAMN I admire and appreciate my taste of music from that era.
I'm not older than dirt, but I am certifiably older than potting soil.
It was fun and chill. I’m sorry you have to deal with so much now.
Load More Replies...Well yeah when 95% of the memes/text-posts are stolen from a site with a ton of American users that'll happen.
Load More Replies...I'm younger than youtube and currently a freshman at college lol so most of these flew over my head
I'm older than Pong and my advice to you is to keep your face off of the internet.
