Generally, the conviction in food photography is that food needs a different treatment from common products: the current trend is to use only natural light, according to the idea that artificial light somehow transfers an artificial look even to the food photographed.
Lately, society seems obsessed with the search for "naturalness" in nutrition: many people associate a natural look with better quality and it's common to judge food quality by sight. The natural aspect is appetizing: we become cautious when the food shows an unexpected color. I decided to take shots using only artificial light and I completely isolate the subject from its natural environment, moving totally away from this thinking.
Both natural and artificial foods are light by direct strobe on rich color backgrounds and they simply become products like any other. I tried to transform them into shapes, in subjects of abstraction and turn them into pure aesthetic exercises. Colors are bright and rich and move away from that palette of naturalness that new aesthetic of food culture offers us now.
