I found an old chair on the side of the road with a sign taped to it saying: “the universe provides freely”…perfect opportunity for a splatter chair! After hauling it home and setting up a controlled area I began throwing buckets/bottles of watered down paint at it. The result is a functional, abstract art piece filled with “happy accidents” and splashes of color. Because the acrylic paint is watered down it soaked into the fabric before it dried…and yes, you can sit in it like a normal chair!

The job seemed interesting. And it looks nice. Thanks for the evolution in the making. It's not an armchair any longer but a piece of art. I doubt I'd sit on it ever though...looks a bit sticky to me...
Thanks! and that's what a lot of people think, but I assure you it is fully dry and functional lol. I can sit on it and read a book and nothing sticks or flakes off. It's part of the fabric now, especially once I use a waterproof sealer!

what was the water to paint ratio? Is the fabric stiff when it dries?
Fabulous artsy funky chair Emily!!! It's inspiring me to do something similar. What sort of waterproofing sealer did you use?
That is so cool, I am in the process of spray painting ---an old velvet chair sitting on our verandah.It was a rusty orange once I tore of the cover that had seen better days. Your idea gives me inspiration to do something similar.I suppose the paint you used acrylic and I love the idea of sealing it too.
