Vietnamese mothers dedicate all their lives to their families. They feel the happiest when they care for their loved ones, prepare warm dinners and wait for husbands and children to come home from work to enjoy the meal together. Even when families have to part ways due to work or adversities, mothers are still waiting and their eyes are always focused on the door.

When they get older, the wish to be close to loved ones becomes even stronger and the only thing they wish for is a family reunion at least for the holidays, especially on Tet (the Vietnamese New Year). These are the familiar images in Vietnam that I have put into a photography project called 'Whoever has a Mother, please, do not make her cry or sad". You can see the pain and the wish that time would stop on the faces of these women.

My mother passed away nine years ago. Every time I take photos of old Vietnamese women, I send my feelings to my mother through them. I wish them to be healthy and live long with their children and grandchildren so that they can reunite on Tet. Did you visit your mother?
