Disturbing Insides Of Leather Objects By Chinese Sculptor
Shocking series of fleshy looking objects by a Chinese artist Cao Hui left such an impression on us that we’re still reeling from it. In his disturbing series the Beijing-based sculptor challenges our perception of everyday objects by re-imagining their insides as if they had real organs.
To our relief, no animals or humans were harmed in the making of these sculptures. Hui gets the viewer’s attention through deception, creating the impression of real flesh by using materials such as resin and fibre.
“Increasingly uneasy and dissatisfied with merely describing surface appearances, artists now attempt to plumb the inner reaches of things; an agenda that apparently moves into science or other fields,” says Hui in his artist’s statement. “It seems artists are no longer happy just being artists, but are driven by their inborn love of performance to try out new roles, such as philosopher, scientist, doctor or perhaps even engineer.”

I thought they were brilliant!!!! to me, the photos represent the reality of what is in your leather chair, purse, boots....all made from animals who really just wanted to live out their own lives....instead they were confined, slaughtered and skinned to make everything above. its actually quite sad.
Its a true.. The someones skin is not for someones accomodity... Buy artifical matherials not someones skin... Save the life, not pay someones death, skinning even alive... Respect life!!!
If you eat meat, dairy or eggs, you're already living with that.

This is an interesting angle on things seeing as some luxury goods are made of leather - leather bags, shoes, gloves, furniture, ...... Hush, don't let the animal activists get hold of these pictures...

Wow, this is truly awesome and, in my opinion, what art is in its true form. We do so many things out of habit and without thinking about it because we've done it for so long. I've often questioned my leather purchases... and this really helps me "see" why it makes me feel uncomfortable. There are a lot of things in society that look OK, and are not. So... I think my leather days are over.
About time someone brought it home...it is pretty sickening what we do to animals on this planet & I have a hard time living with it :'(
