I’m A Wheelchair-Bound Artist And I Challenged Myself To Draw Every Single Pokémon As A Human (40 Pics)
61Kviews
My name is Chey, or you can call me Endifi/Frosty. I am a freelance artist born with a bone disease called osteogenesis imperfecta, which impairs my bones, so I cannot walk far, jump, or run, and I'm wheelchair-bound. But despite me being impaired, I LOVE to draw. I've been drawing since I was practically a baby.
Do you know what else I really love? Pokémon. This franchise that been with me since I was a child, like most, and I've grown to appreciate its creativity, innovation, and its willingness to give us a friend to travel with us. I remember when I was a kid watching TV and a certain advertisement came on about Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It was a commercial where they had people cosplaying as the Pokémon that were next to them—one was cosplaying as a Pikachu and one was a Torchic, etc. That commercial really convinced me to buy Pokémon Sapphire. And around 2009, I got more into Pokémon "gijinkas" by an artist (I, unfortunately, don't remember their name). But that "Pokégijinka" artist inspired me to start drawing my own gijinkas. By the way, for those who don't know, gijinka means giving humanizing traits to an animal, planet, item, etc.

Yuejing The Umbreon
In 2013, I loved Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire so much, I created some gijinkas based upon that generation. I created stories about my characters and my friends really loved it so much. In 2013, I even got a special reward on Deviantart for a Pokémon gijinka I drew.
So that inspired me to do a challenge where I draw every single Pokémon in the National Dex, humanized. Unfortunately, I started college to pursue a degree in Media and Animation. But in 2018, it was time for me to challenge myself in character designing because I personally felt my art needed adjustment. So I started my Pokémon gijinka project.
Mother Of The Unown
Eifiryu The Espeon
My goals for this project are to be diverse, tell stories with these characters, not to limit myself on ideas, and just have fun. Most of my gijinkas tend to be different people because I want to build and manufacture a creative world for them even if I'm just drawing a character. I even give them personal names just to humanize them more because when I was a kid, I always nicknamed my Pokémon. I've already completed the Kanto Dex and I'm almost done with the Johto Dex. And committing to this has not only improved my character designing skills, but myself as a person. So I would love to present you the starter gijinkas from both gens I've done and some other Poké gijinkas I've worked on.
I don't own Pokémon, obviously, but the fanart is mine.

Wish I could draw like that, my stick figures look horrible, great work, like putting some of the non super popular pokemon in.
You can replace the stick figure's body with a rectangle attached to the head with a line 1/5th of the way up.

Corviknght is my fav. Change my mind. Also just as a suggestion could you try the swords of Justice?
These are really good. Gonna have to show them to my son, who's obsessed with pokemon. Might also give him some inspiration in his own art :)
i love pokemon and i wish i had this talent!
These are spectacular. I can see some of them converted to costumes as cosplay characters.

I really enjoyed all your renditions of human inspired pokemon. I sense your artistic passions through your beautiful creations. Thank you for your art. I can tell you spent time considering each design individually, and I appreciate the nods to the show. Your work goes beyond what the pokemon look like to incorporate a piece of each one's personality from the series.

Oh my word. These are probably the best drawings I have ever seen. Keep it up!
Why does it matter you are wheelchair bound? If you have the talent and ability (which you do), what does the rest matter? I'm seriously curious.
It matters everything to me. Having a bone disease stifles a lot from me. I have minor scoliosis, but because of that, its strengthen my arms. I've been discriminated from multiple things, even art related. But drawing has kept me going in so many occasions. And I've always been asked in my entire life why I am stuck in a wheelchair. People were always afraid offending me but I never will get offended if people just ask. Having the talent is one thing, but the struggle to become what I am really means a lot to me and I want to inspire people with disabilities to keep going and not feel afraid that having a bone disease can stop you from something you like.
I consider myself an anime artists, but I've never actually digitally drawn before... I hope I can draw beautifully like this one day! I'm actually thinking of posting the drawings I do on paper on BoredPanda, but idk if they're actually good or not
Oh please do! I'd check it out for sure. I'm just getting started with art and would love to see people of different levels.

I have the same dream ... a different disability, which sadly prevents e from doing what I love - so really cudos for pulling through and doing such an amazing job at it! The art is stunning and cute and filled with personality - i love it and it surely inspired me a ton <3

Hey, i really dont mean to be rude or anything but i dont know why you found the need to include the fact that you are wheelchair bound. Your art is amazing, and i wish that i could draw like you, but you didnt need to add that. Again, i dont mean to sound rude, im sorry.
You are uber talented! Your art is amazing! Love ever pic!

I'm a little confused as to the title of this article. What does "wheelchair bound" have to do with anything? Why do you feel the need to categorize this individual instead of just saying "Artist". He explains his condition in the content, but the title is inappropriate.
I'm actually a she. And I would rather be transparent about what I am. I've seen many articles on this site say something like "blank artist" here or "blank artist" that. So should that be stopped? Personally, I want people to know what I am and I like opening up to what I am and my disability has a lot to do with my life. So the title isn't inappropriate.
I don't know anything about pokemon but you drawings are beautiful!
AMAZING

I want to see every single one and I need more of these in grass types. ADORABLE!!!
I just finally found the name of the artist who I was inspired by to do this project. Their name is Hitec. They drew Pokemon gijinkas in the 2000s and they've been my number one inspiration ever since. So for those who are wondering who my main inspiration for doing a project like this was.
Amazing! This reminds me of the Pokémon gijinka artist Tamtamdi! Do you have a Facebook page I can follow?

Out of curiosity why did the title have to mention that the artist is wheelchair bound ? , like why put that in there unless you are are trying to gain something from a disability?
Because I would rather be open about it. And I feel there's nothing wrong with mentioning it. My disability affects a lot of what I do, but I want to be open about it as well because I like talking to people about my disability since people keep thinking they would offend me.
My little brother, and sister, are OBSESSED with Pokémon, and I showed them these pics. They LOVED them. I have to admit, their REALLY good.
Very great job 😉 love them all😍
Your artwork is AMAZING. You totally nailed every single one of them. You have a wonderful talent. Please keep up the good work. Brilliant brilliant work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀😀😀

Not sure why the lead is all about your disease since apparently it doesn't affect your drawing abilities. Instead of being an artist in a wheelchair with a disease, you presented yourself as someone with a disease in a wheelchair who happens to be an artist. Interesting choice.
Well yea. Of course it affected my abilities and even now my disease can still affect my abilities. Even though my legs and back are mostly impacted by the disease, my arms can as well. I've had fractures on my shoulders and arms before. My bone disease can affect everything. But it only encourages me to keep going with my life.
I wonder which was their first or what inspired them to do this.

Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry for your loss. I've met people with the same disease I have and they've told me their stories on how there's different types of Osteogenesis Imperfecta. People have told me that whatever type they are born with really could be a life or death situation. I was born with type 4 I believe. And again. I'm so sorry for your loss.
These designs are lovely, but why were the pictures uploaded as the lowest-quality JPEG images possible?
to stop people stealing them?
Maybe, but wouldn't a watermark be a better choice for that.
OH. Okay I legitimately did not think of that. Okay, that’s absolutely fair!

Good to know that you're bound to a wheelchair. That sure changes the way people look at your pictures! Or does it??
Honestly? Really? Go spread you nasty words somewher else.
Honestly, he has a point. What does it have to do with the art?
honestly "a dose of reality" it doesn't change the way we see their pics i think their art is lovely and if you were just going to make a rude comment on this then why did you even click on this page. it's people like you we don't need pointing out useless info it doesn't matter that they are bound to a wheelchair it shouldn't effect how people see their art. so go spread you negativity somewhere else.
