Hong Kong protest, NBA, Lebron James, Adam Silver, South Park, Winnie The Pooh. All of these diverse topics have something in common – China. Yet it’s not only the censorship and denial of free speech that makes companies kowtowing to Xi Jinping’s China a bad thing. It’s way worse. Increasing human rights’ abuse, constantly developed surveillance systems and mass re-education camps of Uyghurs. China seems to be a dystopian nightmare state in the making. And the West lets it happen. What should be done?

You are correct. the moment there is money involved people ignore the simple truths. CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS and the ilk will simply report a little about it, but chose to look only at American politics, so the States ignore the problem. I just came back from China and I can tell you I love the people but they are very misinformed about what is actually going on not just outside their borders, but even inside their borders. They have no idea what is going on because the media is 100% controlled and the Orwellian construct as seen in 1984 is VERY much a reality in today's China. Unless the world is willing to actually wage a true monetary war and punish China as we do Iran or North Korea, there is exactly zero chance China will change. Welcome to true socialism.
It's called total control of the media, culture, entertainment, education, information and anything else that would make people want to seek a better life. Dictators even in large groups are human excrement, well even more so.

@Virgil blue First attack my argument and sources. I welcome that freely. Please i encourage it. But don't smear my character. Second social credit doesn't even exist as a natiinal sysytem or as west media makes it to be https://foreignpolicy.com/2018/11/16/chinas-orwellian-social-credit-score-isnt-real/ Third, even if it did ~ it doesn't make my sources or words less true. Go and tell me why my sources below is wrong. I freely encourage you to fact check and prove me wrong. @Chris Suka - you are trying to spam this topic, you should learn the truth first, you're government censors everything and lies to it's population. I hope that one day China will be free of it's communist dictatorship.

You keep using Japantimes and laughably The Guardian but if you really want to debate, pull up actual legitimate websites of both the USA and China for comparison. And I mean legit sites, not just news stories. What are the actual references you are using?? Otherwise all your postings of the slew of links is just a waste of time if you cannot legitimately verify any of it. Everything on the internet is not controlled by governments so yes it is not a difficult thing to find reputable sources. If you go only go by what you are finding on media websites then any argument you could have or want to have is DOA and won't be taken seriously. At the moment you just sound like a huge vat of hot air that I honestly cannot even take seriously even if I wanted to.
I'm directing this comment to Mr. Suka by the way. Our Chinese buddy who is so vehemently defending China with his battle of the new stories/media

I think we sully the name of a good bear like that. Poor winnie, being compared with human skin wearing monsters like that.

There is corruption in China, but it exists in every corner of the world, even in some of impoverished African countries, such as Congo. The student leaders presented their 'courage' and 'dedication' in the spotlight of western media, but later they vanished. Where have they gone? They have gone to US , UK and Taiwan. The same story happens in Hong Kong. One of the student leader has gone to US and is studying in a school of Ivy league. I was wondering when you can write an article without bias. PS, the Tank Man is not a hero or a fighter in Tian An Men square. He was trying to stop the tanks, but the tanks didn't hurt him in any way. He was safe and sound after that. Just think about the movie ' Black Hawk Down'! You though you were saving us from a dictator, but you are a dictator indeed.
It's really funny to read some of the comments here and I guess the most of you have never been to China, so what you heard and watched are from the media, which often use fake news and videos to misguide the public. I was born and raised in China, like any society, there are many social issues in our country. Yet we are still satisfied with our life and our country. We are not brain washed since the Internet is a way to get to know what's the world like outside. Long story short, Hong Kong was, is and will always be part of China. It's a shame that many young Hong Kongers are used to separate Hong Kong from China. President Xi has to be tough to rule the country, so does Putin. There is no problem with it.
Agreed loved in China for 6 years, yes it is common for the government to hide poverty, but that may unfortunately be how you have to run the biggest population in the world

What were you thinking this is a post about one of the worst, and most ruthless dictators banning any mention of him in the wrong way. You got derailed by the mention of Pooh. Now go back to the posts on Disneyland and Kansas, you're lost but if you follow the yellow brick road Dorothy you'll find your way back to non-thinking land.
The rest of the poor slump world love evil china money to much to care about the CCP CAZI, china Nazi party!🐕 The wealthy Western had to much invested in the china so kowtow is a better option to make more money out of the Chinese cheap labor. One way to address this, the world should boycott all Chinese products and political association, send evil china back to the dark isolation corner, let see how much patient will the Chinese 1.4B people will put up with the CCP CAZI party!🐕
And it's funny you mentioned nazis. Dan Cohen of the Grayzone mentions the ties between the protest movement and right-wing racist groups in the US. This is an issue requiring further reporting as it is strange that pro-Trump, racist groups are supporting the protests and the protesters are using US racist symbols. https://thegrayzone.com/2019/08/17/hong-kong-protest-washington-nativism-violence/
