Or, buy one of those cell phone sized car starter/ battery chargers. It is like a bit of magic! You connect the positive and negative terminals accordingly and literally just go start the car. Battery could be deader than a doornail and it doesn't care... amazing actually...

Just get a jump starter that doesn't require a second car. I have one and it worked great the two times I ever had to use it. Plus you don't have to put anything on bare metal. You just attach the red cable on the portable unit to the red on the battery, and the black to the black. It's great for when your battery dies and there are no other cars around.

This should be a sticker on the engine hood, or all auto batteries.

You can put 4 on the battery, I have many times (motor trade) and you have to keep the donors engine running with modern cars or you'll screw all their alarm, security, radio codes etc, which means you have to be very careful not to touch any of the exposed metal parts and wear rubber gloves. And what you should NEVER do - running or switched off - is allow any of 1-4 to touch each other after you've done 2. This schematic/instruction is over-simplified and if you're not sure/confident get a professional, or find a mate who is confident/practiced.

So, when the kids I work with pass their driving test, I give them a present. In the bag is a seatbelt cutter/hammer tool, a small book on basic car maintenance, and a keyring that can fit a rolled up £20 note for emergencies. All useful things to have, and not very expensive
