Life hacks are basically an entire subgenre of online content. The trend has permeated all the social media platforms and gained a somewhat notorious reputation for being either inexplicably absurd (like, chopping onions with a face shield or getting stains out of your shirt with shaving foam) or simply “but why?”-inducing.

But luckily, the internet is one endless black hole (can we all just agree on that description?) and that means there should be some genuinely useful tips to make our lives easier and more efficient floating around. Well, if you are like me, in search of ways to make yourself do stuff by yourself, proving that you’re an independent responsible millennial adult, the chances are, sooner or later, you’d stumble upon the “How To” subreddit.

According to the sub’s description, it’s a place “where you can learn how to do anything and everything yourself! Need advice on how to start a podcast or how to fix your car? It's all here from A-Z!” So if it seems like a promise, a whopping 2.9M followers prove it overdelivers.

Scroll down through the most useful bits of random advice below that may be the solution you were looking for all this time!

How To Not Pay Stupid Amounts Of Money To Read Research Papers

How To Not Pay Stupid Amounts Of Money To Read Research Papers

hwitteman Report

One way to go about it is setting a goal for yourself in order to learn something. Turns out, it’s a key to long-term happiness, as it gives you both a long-term vision and short-term motivation. First off, it focuses on you and makes you the creator of your own life in a world where we too often believe in coincidences. No wonder many of those who accomplish their dreams, goals or resolutions become much more confident in themselves.

Your journey of progress really depends on what kind of goal you set for yourself. It may be big or small, life-long, year-long or even a week-long goal. For some, it may be losing a few pounds, for others it’s getting promoted, learning a new language, running a marathon, overcoming a fear, you name it.

Add eggs to cold water, bring to boil, boil 3,5 mins (half-easy yolk) or 5 min (hard york), take the eggs out and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process.

Rinsing well with cold water stops the unpleasant-looking grey ring from forming around the yolk as well.

Had breakfast with a group of friends and asked everyone how they like their eggs. Prepared the pot with cold water and the eggs - went to use the bathroom. And came back to every friend changing their requests to longer times. Was really confuesed until I figured out, that they didn't know that there's two times to time an egg. In cold water and 3 minutes when it starts to boil or directly in boiling water for 6 minutes to have a soft boiled egg. - was just a little mad that they all thought 30 year old me didn't know how to boil an egg ;)

I put the eggs in a steamer basket above, and not directly into, the boiling water. Once the eggs are cooked, the shells peel right off quite easily.

But THEN remove them from the hot water and shock them with cold water or ice. It makes them earlier to peel and prevents the grey outside of the yolk.

Altitude can really mess with time to cook anything. For eggs, we found that an egg "timer". https://www.amazon.ca/Provone-Timer-Medium-Durable-Kitchen/dp/B08394WMD4/ref=asc_df_B08394WMD4/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=341614841641&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10136412595978732241&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9001454&hvtargid=pla-916409221153&psc=1 is really helpful because it helps produce perfect eggs every time and you can find these things at almost any grocery or Dollar store.

Per the PBS cooking show "America's Test Kitchen", put eggs into pan & cover fully with cold water. Bring to a boil & boil 2 minutes. Cover pan & remove from heat. Let stand 13-15 minutes and then put eggs into an ice bath (I NEVER do this part, just run cold water until they're cool). Perfectly done for egg salad or Deviled Eggs.

Hard boiled eggs in microwave: put warm/hot water into microwave bowl or saucepan, add 1/2 teaspoon salt per egg to water, add eggs making sure water covers them well, cover the bowl, but not completely (have some venting) and cook on high 2-3 minutes per egg. When done let sit for about same amount as cook time, then transfer eggs to a cold water (icy even) bath and let sit for about 5-6 minutes. No eggy explosions because of salt, super easy peel from cold water bath.

It depends on the size of the egg, if you start counting time when the water boils or put them in boiling water, if you cool them with cold water after... that's why I never trust these. I boil eggs every morning for breakfast so by know I just "feel" when they are ready how a I want them (not runny but very soft). Never use a timer.

Yeah, we always have to cook our eggs longer for the same results. I think it also depends on mineral composition of the water and your altitude. We have to cook ours for 12 minutes to get something like 5 minutes on the above chart. We used to have to cook them for 14 minutes when we lived elsewhere.

If you have an instant pot, 1 cup of water, at least 2 eggs, cook on high on manual for 6 minutes (for fully hard boiled). Quick-release steam as soon as it's done, then transfer eggs immediately to an ice bath and let cool. Easiest to peel eggs ever.

Too much. To reduce to selfie smell and have perfect hard boiled eggs. Make certain eggs are at room temperature BEFORE starting. Plac Ed in pot, cover with water, bring to rolling boil. Turn off heat, cover 10 minutes, less time for runnier yolk. Drain, let eggs sit at room temperature to cool, don’t ice bathe them. Perfect every time

I put eggs from the fridge in room temperature water in an enamel pot then turn on medium high heat. When it comes to a rolling boil, I let it boil for about 3 minutes then turn off the burner and let it cool down on it's own. I wait a couple of hours and then shock them with ice water and ice cubes in the sink. Perfectly done yolks but the best part is that the shells practically fall off in large pieces.

How To Self Rescue In The Event You Fall Through Frozen Ice

How To Self Rescue In The Event You Fall Through Frozen Ice

imbratoor Report

Another way to go about it is to try and become more useful to the people around you. The feeling that you are, in some way, useful to another human being is one of the most precious things that can boost your self-esteem, help the relationship, and give a sense of fulfillment. And to be so, you don’t have to be an inverter, entrepreneur or have a wall of diplomas.

The key to being useful to others is making them stand taller than you are. And it takes simple things like telling people their strengths when they forget about them, or helping them to avoid mistakes. Believing in others and telling them that is another way to empower those around you. Try listening without judgment as most often all people want is simply to be heard.

By doing that, we realize that our actions, our words, and our presence are capable of adding value to another human being’s life. And that is one hell of a life hack I wish to carry with me for years to come.
