How To Trap A Cat In 3 Easy Steps

The Internet is collectively performing a study on cat behavioral psychology, and all of us (and our cats) can participate! After a few users on Reddit and Imgur noticed that their cats are attracted to circles, submissions poured in of other cat owners trying these low-tech traps on their feline friends.

One possible reason some of these cats might be attracted to these circles is their need for safety. Cats love small and secure spaces, so even the suggestion or illusion of one may prove more appealing than wherever they are at the moment.

More info: guremike.jp (h/t: reddit, imgur)

Step 1: Set the trap

Step 2: Lure the ferocious beast

Step 3: Gloat over your victory

He didn’t even see it coming

Repeat:

Not true. Although they are presumed rare, there are male calico cats. I have 1 that comes up on my porch every day to eat my other cat's food. Yes, I do know for a fact that it is a male.

What about squares? My cat loves to sit on her scratching pad, square cushions, etc. Also beds.

Wild... I must try this with my cats. I shall have to give each of them their own trap and see if I can catch all four of them at once.

My cats have heated beds, one is round, the other oval and they both prefer the round bed. Too funny.

Forget it. That's not gonna work on a cat scared out of her mind who's convinced everything and everybody's a threat including mom or dad.

Cute! My hunch is that in the wild cats settle into circular places cleared out undergrowth. That's what's happening here.

I think anything novel on the floor a car may go to. I think you need to present multiple objects in various shapes to really evaluate.

Will this work on big cats? Say I'm on a safari gone wrong. Could I potentially save myself from a tiger attack by drawing a ground circle?

You can get a similar result by tossing a magazine, book, or piece of paper on the floor. They "claim" it in short order!
