My favorite section of the 'Guinness World Records' book was always the biggest things. I marveled at the Blue Whale, the skyscrapers vying for the world's tallest and trucks with wheels the size of a house.
The most important part, the thing that really makes you say 'wow' is the scale. You can't really appreciate the sheer size of something unless something familiar is placed alongside it for comparison. I'm noticing how you need to use a literal flight of stairs just to get in the damn thing.
My Grandfather drove one of those big dumpers at the Copper mine here in Utah. We would go to family days up there and get pictures taken in front of the huge tires.
Cool. My dad drove one like it when they built the 2nd powerhouse at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River. I have pics when I was 4 standing in front of it!

My Dad used to work in these ( mechanic in the iron mines). When they had inner tubes in tires, he'd bring them home like an antique version of a trampoline!

There is some perspective issues with this picture, but the tires are huge. the tires are 13.22 feet tall, the typical class C 72 passenger bus is 10 foot tall. The tires weigh @ 12,000 LB's and an unloaded 72 passenger bus is @ 20,000 Lb's, the weight of the dump truck unloaded is 1,375,000 lb's so basically the weigh of 69 School buses.
Fake bus. For clarification: That model truck's tyres should be just 6 inches taller than the bus. This faked image seems to show them as 2.5-3 feet taller. . WHY fake the image, when the truth would have done just as well, those trucks ARE impressively huge. Why go to the effort of faking it, when reality is already impressive enough? Sad!

No, its actually a mine truck. The largest ones can carry 400 to 500 tonnes, with the school bus only weighing in at 13.5 tonnes. If you look on the front grill of the dump truck, you will see that there is an entire stair case going diagonally up it. They are simply huge.

All of the tallest trees in the world are indeed giant sequoias, but Hyperion outranks the General Sherman by far (379.7 ft for Hyperion, compared to 275 ft for General Sherman). Thought provoking. We think of ourselves as the biggest and best - and indeed some of the man-made items are huge, but nature does well too. There seems to be a template for mammals and each species is tweaked slightly to make it individual.

While the idea first appeared on Buzzfeed, it looks like they just took the photos from a subreddit without doing further research. Bored Panda has done extensive research and has collected more pictures. By the way, Buzzfeed copies Bored Panda's posts all the time (never crediting us, even after we contact them), so it works both ways. The difference is we invest more time and try to do posts better
