My favorite section of the 'Guinness World Records' book was always the biggest things. I marveled at the Blue Whale, the skyscrapers vying for the world's tallest and trucks with wheels the size of a house.
The most important part, the thing that really makes you say 'wow' is the scale. You can't really appreciate the sheer size of something unless something familiar is placed alongside it for comparison. We here at Bored Panda have compiled a list of things that are even bigger than you probably thought. From wombats to wolves, these 'big' things are actually freaking huge! Scroll down to check them out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!

The Largest Tree In The World
Actually not the tallest anymore. All of the tallest trees in the world are indeed giant sequoias, but Hyperion outranks the General Sherman by far (379.7 ft for Hyperion, compared to 275 ft for General Sherman). Helios was discovered in 2006. I don't believe it's location has been revealed to the public.

Bear Claws Next To Human Hand
I was just reading in a book last night about medicine, and when a scientist from the mid 1800's couldn't get a human foot to dissect, he got a bear's foot and did it instead, since they are so similar. It was someone famous, but now I cannot recall who it was.

The Size Of This 400,000 Volt Underground Cable Compared To My Hand
Are these the cables used for Internet? You guys do realize that our entire WWW is connected via the oceans, underground, and NOT by satellites right? You can see the map of the cables that go across the ocean floors.... there are not that many of them. It's amazing!
No, data cables are fiber optic and actually pretty small and light stuff. the actual fibers are just a few millimeters in diameter, with a mantle of plastic and steel wires. the whole cable may be around the diameter of a garden water hose.
Load More Replies...You should see the underwater cables between Great Britain and Europe continent.
When I lived in Egypt we lost all internet connections and it was because some ship had got something (anchor???) caught in the undersea cables and snapped it, so we were without internet for a while
Those are the kind of batteries they probably used for electric chairs
I guess the cables used on 380.000/400.000 volt pylons will be more or less the size of the core because they don't need to be insulated. And a high voltage means a low amperage. Also, you don't loose a lot of volts over the wires...
He should sell those cables to the Internet and use the money to buy the last two fingers he needs to complete his glove
Molly, internet cables are low Voltage. They wouldn’t use 400,000 volt cables for that.
Given that a 400K cable is not something most people have ever seen/encountered/thought about (unlike, say, a traffic light or large animal), there is no reason for anyone to think that such a cable would not been this size (or bigger or smaller, for that matter)... This is supposed to be a list of "things surprisingly bigger than you prob'ly thought" not just "random things that happen to be big".

@FaqirAfaq What, your ego? Or the level of magnification on that telescope?
These are all really cool, some I knew, some really stopped me in my tracks. Awesome!
Am I the only one who looked at the title and immediately giggled? Sounds so wrong.
Thought provoking. We think of ourselves as the biggest and best - and indeed some of the man-made items are huge, but nature does well too. There seems to be a template for mammals and each species is tweaked slightly to make it individual.
Actually a pretty interesting post! Thanks :) now we need small stuff!!
While the idea first appeared on Buzzfeed, it looks like they just took the photos from a subreddit without doing further research. Bored Panda has done extensive research and has collected more pictures. By the way, Buzzfeed copies Bored Panda's posts all the time (never crediting us, even after we contact them), so it works both ways. The difference is we invest more time and try to do posts better
