My favorite section of the 'Guinness World Records' book was always the biggest things. I marveled at the Blue Whale, the skyscrapers vying for the world's tallest and trucks with wheels the size of a house.
The most important part, the thing that really makes you say 'wow' is the scale. You can't really appreciate the sheer size of something unless something familiar is placed alongside it for comparison. We here at Bored Panda have compiled a list of things that are even bigger than you probably thought. From wombats to wolves, these 'big' things are actually freaking huge! Scroll down to check them out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Wolf Size Compared To Coyotes
Story time! My husband grew up on the west coast, I grew up a city girl in the east. He took me to Yellowstone a few years ago and I wanted to see a wolf SO BADLY. We were driving past a field and I yelled "STOP! Is that a wolf?!" He slowed down and looked, said "No, that's a coyote." I wasn't convinced. "Are you sure? How can you be sure? I think that's a wolf." And he said "Trust me - if it were a wolf, you'd know. That's a coyote." Fast forward to many hours later, and found ourselves driving down another road. Around a pond to the right a lot of people with cameras had gathered, so we decided to pull over and see what it was they were gawking at. However, we had barely slowed down when a full grown, entirely black wolf stepped out in front of our car. My response? "Oh." His response? "Yeah."
This is exactly what happened to us. We've been seeing some exceedingly large coyotes around our place in the past few years, some with much darker coloring than usual too, of course we wondered if they were wolves. Then we were riding in the mountains of Eastern Oregon and a wolf crossed the road in front of us. Yeah, totally different!

That wolf is like something out of a nightmare, not even Liam Neeson could take him on!
The camera person is thinking, just keep looking at the coyotes, I'm not here
A WOLF WON''T HURT YOU UNLESS YOU CORNER THEM. THEY ARE AFRAID OF HUMANS
Load More Replies...see this is a good comparison because people dont really know how big wolves are because you only ever see wolves next to other wolves and you know that wolves are big but you dont get a sense of how big until you get a good size comparison
Depends on the type. I think this is an Artic wolf, and they are much bigger.
Even tho' coyotes are nearer camera and thus would appear larger compared to the wolf, the wolf is considerably larger!
Cpyotes are the pigeons as the piegons are to the doves. Pigeons are the ones that ask their cousin the dove for rent money but manage to drunk all the time. Sooo...wolves are doves. Lol
WOW even two of them don't equal his size ! But they both are out standing looking , Just come back when you want to really play with me guys ,I'll be nice ;=]]
Imagine coming across this guy while out skiing. Gotta know he’s not alone, either. Yikes
Many people believe coyotes are large & fierce canines. But they are usually smaller than an Australian Shepard & very timid. My chihuahua has chased them off a few times (I didn't know they were outside til I heard him yapping). They are considered "pests" to most rural area residents. Scavengers. Which is sad because we do see them in late fall when foods are scarce up higher. They never attack humans unless very cornered & last resort to get free.
This isn't real. While a wolf can run up to 120 pounds and a Coyote is about 40-50 pounds, these are either puppy coyotes or a doctored photo.
The wolf is like, "hmmm...these evolved from us?" And the coyotes are not even trying they're like, "whoat the s**t? we EVOLVED FROM THEM?"
WHEN I WORKED AT A WOLF SANCTUARY, I WAS GIVEN THE ONLY WOLF BORN ONE YEAR. SHE LOOKED JUST LIKE THIS ONE. I NAMED HER "SUGAR BABY". SHE WAS SO SWEET. British Columbian TIMBER WOLF
I'm not outraged, I just think you need to stop thinking you're so superior about it. Nobody thinks you're cool just because you don't care, Ben!

The Largest Tree In The World
Actually not the tallest anymore. All of the tallest trees in the world are indeed giant sequoias, but Hyperion outranks the General Sherman by far (379.7 ft for Hyperion, compared to 275 ft for General Sherman). Helios was discovered in 2006. I don't believe it's location has been revealed to the public.

I was just reading in a book last night about medicine, and when a scientist from the mid 1800's couldn't get a human foot to dissect, he got a bear's foot and did it instead, since they are so similar. It was someone famous, but now I cannot recall who it was.

@FaqirAfaq What, your ego? Or the level of magnification on that telescope?
These are all really cool, some I knew, some really stopped me in my tracks. Awesome!
Am I the only one who looked at the title and immediately giggled? Sounds so wrong.
Thought provoking. We think of ourselves as the biggest and best - and indeed some of the man-made items are huge, but nature does well too. There seems to be a template for mammals and each species is tweaked slightly to make it individual.
Actually a pretty interesting post! Thanks :) now we need small stuff!!
While the idea first appeared on Buzzfeed, it looks like they just took the photos from a subreddit without doing further research. Bored Panda has done extensive research and has collected more pictures. By the way, Buzzfeed copies Bored Panda's posts all the time (never crediting us, even after we contact them), so it works both ways. The difference is we invest more time and try to do posts better
