The sinking air acts as a cap or a heat dome and traps the latent heat already absorbed by the landscape. The high-pressure system also pushes out cooler, fast-moving air currents and squeezes clouds away, which gives the sun an unobstructed line of sight to the ground.

In Australia it's perfectly legal to deny livestock shelter. The statistics for heatstroke in cattle and sheep are astronomical. But the government subsidises any losses so farmers just don't care. Especially when it comes to transport - 48 hours without water or rest in a metal truck in summer is the norm and perfectly legal. We have some of the worst animal welfare laws in the western world. It's sickening.
