Parents Find Out That School Allows Kids To Wear Hot Dog Costumes For Their ID Photo, So They Dare Their Son To Do It

Some parents really deserve a gold medal for their parenting skills or at least for their sense of humor. One example is Craig and Kari Arsenault – a couple based in Saco, Maine. The duo dared their 9-year-old son to dress up as a hot dog for his school photo, which he did, leaving not only family members but people all over the internet in hysterics. The dad posted the picture of the school ID on his Facebook page, amassing numerous reactions from people and making the adorable photo with the sausage-encased smiling boy quickly go viral.

“My wife and I dared our son to wear a hotdog costume for school pictures,” Craig wrote in a Facebook post. “The school let him do it, and I couldn’t be happier.” “This is the greatest thing I’ve seen in ages,” one Facebook user commented. “Please make one of your children do this,” another person encouraged his friend. “The costume was my wife’s idea. Jake didn’t know what to wear so she jokingly suggested the hot-dog costume. It was laying around the house after Jake wore it 2 years ago for Halloween,” Craig told Bored Panda.

He did it after his parents dared him to and promised him $10

“He was nervously giddy at the idea of doing it, and he’s a bit of a clown, so thought it would be funny. His classmates thought it was awesome. There were whispers all day in the hall about “some kid who wore a hot dog for pictures,” Craig told us. The parents had to write Jake a permission slip to reassure the boy’s teachers that the decision was backed by them. Craig and Kari were super excited that everything went according to the plan. After Jake received his ID, he happily posed for a picture with it with a huge grin on his face. “He’s basically a celebrity at his school now and he loves it,” the light-hearted dad added to Bored Panda.

The fourth-grader received a lot of attention and was even visited by a Wienermobile – Oscar Mayer’s (American meat and cold cut production company) hot dogs-on-wheels. The company’s representatives said that they wanted to give Jake a special treat for his now-viral photo.

This is awesome. I love that everyone was okay with this, and he probably had the best school pictures ever.

It's heartwarming to see a happy child who wore something unusual for a school photo and received only positive comments. I was in the Girl Scouts in elementary school. The day that school pictures were taken one year happened to be on the day of the week that coincided with the Girl Scouts meeting, so I wore my G.S. uniform. I thought it would be good to have a photo of me in my uniform. All day long, other kids saw me in the uniform and said, "DIDN'T YOU KNOW TODAY WAS PHOTO DAY?!" :-(

You could have taken a paper, written on it "YES, I KNEW TODAY WAS PHOTO DAY!" and hung it around your neck :D ;)
