Homeless Woman Found In A Garbage Bag On The Street With 6 Dogs Refuses To Go To A Shelter Because They Don’t Allow Pets
We see stories of dogs’ loyalty all around, but this one proves it can be two-sided. A 65-year-old homeless woman was spotted on the streets of Tijuana, Mexico, hiding from rain and cold inside a black plastic bag. It turned out that the big garbage bag was an improvised shelter for her and six dogs she cares for. Luz Maria Olmedo Beltran, known as “Chole,” has been living on the streets for 8 years, but despite life being cruel to her, she cares about the wellbeing of her dogs more than her own. They give her protection, warmth, and above all— love and companionship.
The shocking scene, caught by photographer Omar Camarillo’s lens, broke hearts online not only because of the unimaginable conditions an elderly woman has to live in, but as testimony that those who have the least set the greatest example of unconditional love and compassion.

For half an hour, the local police desperately tried to convince “Chole” to go to a shelter, but she refused

The police officers spent half an hour trying to persuade the woman to accept their help and stay at a shelter, but she burst into tears as she didn’t want to leave her faithful companions behind. The animals are not allowed at the shelter, so she chooses to stay outside no matter what.

The woman was scared the dogs would be left all alone if she had been taken to a shelter. “I don’t want to go, I don’t need help, I’m fine here,” she said to the police. “Chole” couldn’t abandon her 6 loyal companions, one of which was about to give birth. After all, they only had each other.

The police couldn’t leave her in cold and dangerous conditions and finally managed to convince her to find shelter for the night

Apparently, “Chole” spent the night at her son’s place, but was back on the streets the next day

After the heartbreaking story went viral, a kind local woman decided to help “Chole”

After reading the story, Alejandra Cordova Castro was deeply touched and decided to help “Chole” with what she and the dogs need the most: water, food, blankets, socks, etc. It’s a simple, kind gesture that doesn’t cost much, but means the world to the elderly woman trying to survive in her harsh reality.
The story got a lot of attention online, but Alejandra was actually the first one to help, and she encourages others to do the same

Alejandra Cordova Castro posted about her good deed on her Facebook not to get attention, but to encourage people who are around to contribute with whatever they can and even offered to help transport it. “Chole” can be found between Constitución street and Baja California in Tijuana.
“She said thank you so many times that she made me cry,” Alejandra said.

“Chole” now stays at the shelter for 50 pesos a day. It’s in a very bad condition, but at least her furry family is together
“I was shocked by the conditions in which the woman lives. I was able to realize that ‘La Chole’ has a great heart because she helps animals despite having many shortcomings,” photographer Omar Camarillo told Bored Panda.
Despite life treating her harshly, “Chole” has a kind heart and hopes the government donates a place for her so that she can rescue even more dogs

Share on FacebookHer dogs are the only ones who haven't let her down and have been there for her. So many people won't even look a homeless person in the eye much less talk to them. They're just regular people with feelings. Even if you can't help them sometimes just talking to them means more.
This is honestly why people would prefer to stay in their tent cities than go to a shelter. Being forced to leave behind their only companions is heartbreaking. :(
Especially if they're the ones who stayed with you the whole way <3

Ps, I do give to charity and I can only give so much before I'll be living in the streets. I only say this because there are some donkeys out here criticising people who post on articles like this
A lot of people don't realize that going to a shelter isn't always that easy. Dogs are one issue, another example is shopping carts. It isn't uncommon to see a homeless individual with a shopping cart full of their stuff. That stuff is literally their life's belongings. It is everything that they have. If they can't bring it into the shelter, it will be stolen by the time they come out in the morning.
The shelters for homeless people should serve homeless right, to accommodate all their needs, for God's sake. This makes me angry.

My town has a vet service for homeless people with pets. There's a lovely man who has no home but he has two adorable puppies that he loves, they obviously give him a reason to get up in the morning. I was talking to him one day and a woman came along and started whining to no one in particular about the dog's welfare, completely ignoring the human being who had no choice but to beg on the streets. We don't deserve dogs they are just angels. They never leave anyone behind. We need to learn from their example
Animals are family. All of them are here under our watch. People should respect others like Chole who are guardians of animals. I hope she gets a home soon, for her and her family
I'd rather live on the street (if I had no other option) than abandon my two cats... in the off chance I'd never see them again. I have a feeling that Chole's pet companions would probably never be reunited with her if she left them behind...
Maybe between all donations u can rent a locker or sm rm so that her donations can be put there and she can get them when she or dogs need it. Just give her the key, street people are very smart
I bet that some shelters misuse their funds. Sad reality.

Did you read MagNat's comment Tumo Nakadashi? I know you mean well, but do you realize how many homeless animals are there? Nobody wants them even those people who are affluent. Can you see who this woman is? She has so little that she can't afford a roof over her head and still takes care of those dogs.
Load More Replies...Wonder why she didnt just see if she could stay with her son or her son try to help her into getting a place of her own?
ok, so she knows at least where her son lives. She stayed the night there. Why doesn't she live with him instead of on the streets? Even for a short time to find a job and place of her own? Or get whatever help she needs? Find government assistance housing? I don't understand!
Perhaps her son didn't have room for the dogs either? Or isn't allowed pets? Or there may be tons of other reasons she doesn't live with him. I would imagine if it was that easy she would stay with him. I guess we don't know the story though. It's awful when anyone has to live on the streets but a 65 year old woman living in a bin bag is heart breaking. I'm glad she has the dogs for company, how awful would it be for her alone. I'm so sad now. I hope her life starts getting better soon!

Maybe they aren't sure if that is her name. I wondered if it was meant to be 'Chloe', because I've never heard of 'Chole'.

This is animal abuse. The dogs need to be removed and cared for properly.
Homelessness sucks. Period. I think it's horrid and selfish for homeless people to even have pets....whatever, go ahead and shame this post. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this.
Glorias Natas do you think that homeless people could afford to even pay a rescue dog fees? These dogs are probably homeless too.
