City Builds Tiny Village For Homeless Veterans With 50 Tiny Houses So They Could Live There For Free
64Kviews
The Veterans Community Project in Kansas City is taking serious steps to improve the lives of America’s war heroes. Thanks to generous donations from community members, they’ve built the Veterans Village, a collection of small houses that homeless veterans can live in for free.
The village includes 50 individual homes, each one about the size of a studio apartment. Occupants are provided with food and necessities, as well as a sense of privacy, security, and stability. A nearby community centre, still under construction, will host classes and counseling aimed at helping veterans readjust to their lives and cope with trauma.
The VCP is made up of self-described “veterans helping veterans”, and has spearheaded many projects combatting homelessness and neglect in veteran communities. Though not the first of its kind in the US, the concept of ‘tiny homes’ does make the Veterans Village a unique and economically smart place of refuge.

They also come stocked with food and necessities, which veterans can have replenished as needed

By receiving proper care and socialisation, they can readjust to life after service and cope with trauma

Having their own space will give them a sense of privacy, security, and comfort, just like a real home

The project was funded by generous donations to the VCP from various organisations

Each tiny house costs about $10,000 to produce, making the village space- and cost-effective

i can't understand why a country with such a big budget expense for military doesn't treat their veteran better.
In truth, tiny homes is the ideal solution. I'm 72, a veteran, and love the idea of a tiny home. There's less upkeep, less to move around within. But most importantly, its still your castle, regardless the size. Remember, homeless veterans suffer from depression, and are not thinking like we are. They need to have their privacy and ease of upkeep.
First of all ,thank you for your services. I appreciate your sacrifice. And second , I agree completely. The space is small but when they are in it , it is all theirs. I love how its a little community as well. People that are familiar with your struggle.
Right!? And mean while the ones that make the laws that could help veterans; get best health-care ,wage increases and many more perks. USA has it ass backwards.
Was about to say the same. And I also find heartbreaking that these ppl come home wrecked with PTSD, and it seems we're all fine with this.
@Arty: that is precisely my thought. They shouldn't be sent in the first place, but everything is wrapped and soaked in fake patriotism. They are sent to "export democracy" on the wave of great emotions, and then, when they come home, and they are psychologically destroyed, what the US government does is "thanks for your service and bugger off". A great deal of rhetoric sending them to the fight. Nothing when they come home. Huge hypocrisy all over.
maybe they shouldn't be sent to kill other people?
I agree 100% with you.
neither can i and i'm a voter in this country. :'/
See Bruce Springsteen's 'Born in the USA'. Not trying to get you to listen to it because I think it is a good song (it is...), just that it says EXACTLY what you are thinking. Not-So-Fun-Fact - Ronald Reagan used the song during a campaign. Not knowing the meaning behind it is (basically) "People risk their lives for this country and we give them nothing in return. The 'USA' sucks". Here is a link for the meaning of the song: http://www.shmoop.com/born-in-the-usa/meaning.html. I totally agree with you. Sometimes, America sucks *cough* Trump *cough*. Well, I guess there's only one way to go: UP!
Because we spend too much money on the wrong things :(
and what about stopping sending people in other countries killing people for "freedom"? Maybe they will have less issue after that? na?
I know, I am young and ignorant, but America sends recruits to other countries that aren't as... "free" (emphasis on use of air quotes) and kills them because they live somewhere that isn't free? Or do they kill the extremist/crazy politicians there? I know I probably have it ass-backwards, but can I have a little clarification?
The USA's war profiteers won't like that idea...
This idea needs to spread to all states. These men are awesome. Beautiful work
What this needs, is support from all the states and their people
