Some People Started Filing Complaints About A Stray Kitty Roaming This Law Firm So They Hired Him
Far from everyone has a fondness for stray cats, but one feline in Brazil seemed to have all the luck in the world after it got a job offer in order to silence its critics.
Some people got angry about Leon the cat hanging around the Order of Attorneys of Brazil (which is pretty much the Brazilian Bar Association) and filed complaints about it being in the reception area. What the OAB did was fantastic: it hired the cat as a lawyer to stop the complaints! Make sure to scroll down and read Bored Panda’s fantastic in-depth interview with Dr. Leon the lawyer cat’s representatives! We promise you, it’ll be worth it.

…some people didn’t like that and filed complaints, but the cat was offered a job!

When Dr. Jeanette Laredo posted the good news about the cat becoming an official employee of the OAB, the news went viral online.
Now Dr. Leon the lawyer Cat, who welcomes people coming into the OAB, is famous and even has his own Instagram page dedicated to his antics and animal law. Over 30,000 people follow the cat on Instagram, and I’m sure some of us are a bit jealous of the attention.

Bored Panda reached out to Dr. Leon the lawyer cat’s representatives on Instagram to hear about the animal.
“In February it rains a lot in the state of Amapá (Amazonia), so he arrived at OAB fleeing from the rain and thunder. For a week, he was fed and protected in a box. Until he got hired.”
The lawyer’s representatives told Bored Panda that people filed complaints about the cat because he was very small and they were afraid they’d step on him when he came to meet people.
“[They said] that there was no space for him because it is a serious institution. So the President [of the OAB] determined the hiring and gave him an employee badge.”

It’s possible that Dr. Leon will have his own office in the future: “We are finalizing the documents to launch an animal rights institute. It’s called Instituto Dr. Leon. Unfortunately, we cannot house all [the animals], so we will fund the NGOs in town. We will be an example for Brazil [to follow].”
“Today, he is very dear to everyone. Even those didn’t like him got used to his presence and have fun with him. His favorite place is President Auriney’s sofa; he loves to play with his toys,” the lawyer cat’s representatives explained, also adding that the employee is fed regular cat food.
“Two months ago Leon was neutered and is already fully recovered. But veterinarians say he had a problem with his vocal cords as a result of suffering as a baby. He hardly meows, but we keep taking care of him. This motivated us to create the institute to help abused and abandoned animals.”
The catto loves welcoming newcomers

This is far from the first time a feline has gotten a real job. For example, as a cat named Rademenesa works at an animal shelter, takes care of sick animals and tries to nurse them back to help. The catto became a kind-hearted nurse because it survived an inflamed respiratory tract when it was barely 2 months old. Cats have been trying to get into politics as well. Cat Time writes about several such cats, like Barsik the Schottish fold who got a stunning 91.6 percent of all votes in an unofficial poll for mayor of Barnaul, a town in Siberia. Unfortunately, the cat didn’t register as an official candidate in the election, so it never ended up becoming mayor. There was also Limberbutt McCubbins, a democratic cat from Kentucky, and Dr. Jekyll, who is fluffy and orange, who both officially registered to run for President of the US.
What do you think about Dr. Leon becoming a feline lawyer in Brazil? What do you think of cats with jobs? Do you believe that if ever a cat’s elected into office, the country will go to the dogs? Share your thoughts with everyone in the comments!
Here is how the internet reacted to Dr. Leon the lawyer cat
Honestly, who would complain about this? I've said it before and I'll say it again; office cats are always a good idea.
Some creepy evil cat haters. I wish we had a car or pet at work.
Load More Replies...I Staffordshire terrier dog went to to business with me everyday. He had an official job and title. Assistant Sales manager and PR officer of the company. In 16 years he has sold more furniture thru his good friendly nature than what I could every hope for. I think there were about 5 or 6 people that were terrified of dogs that did not want him near them. He even helped 2 over come their fear for dogs. More companies should have pets in the working environment. Good for the staff morale and excellent for client relations.
Hard to believe such a pretty cat had to live as a stray. Glad he found a home and a job to boot!
You'd be surprised, someone threw about 4 kittens on a bin near my parents house turns out 2 of them looked exactly like this baby, and yet they were all white when we rescued them (newborns). Back home, older generations will do ANYTHING to get rid of any cats of any age :/ even other people's cats. It's very common. We probably had more than 100 cats for the last 30 years, and relocated loads of cats through my dad's customers and my mum's nursery contacts, but about 20 we're killed (poisoned) by older people that lived nearby as they hated animals (literally their words), again common practice when their cats have kittens is to fill a barrel with water and put the little ones in it for them to slowly drown, so when they told me they hated animals I believed them straight away. Some people are mentally unstable and yet they room free because " they're just animals, it's not like they've killed a person", after seeing many movies and documentaries my mental reply says "yet.."
Load More Replies...Very cute. Until you accidentally step on his tail. Then he'll sue you for everything you got.
lmao his last name is Advogato (advo-cat (gato is cat in spanish in case you weren't aware) / advocate) This is the best, someone had a great creative streak to come up with that name. Love it.
They speak Portuguese in Brazil and lawyer/advocate is 'advogado' in Portuguese. In Spanish, it is 'abogado'. 'Cat' is 'gato' in both languages. Like you, I love clever plays on words.
Load More Replies...Cat walked (literally) into a great life. Lucky. Why some people can be so sour to get upset over a stray cat is beyond me.
Ok, before I finish looking all the picture of Leon ....umm... I mean reading the article, I must say Leon is so cute and gorgeous.
Larry the Cat in No 10 Downing St Uk is the most intelligent ‘creature’ in there and quite frankly should be running the country at the moment - so hell yeah! I’d put my faith in a cat over a politician any day!
Oh Rebecca, so true!! Larry could have half a brain and be the thickest cat ever to have lived and still be a better bet for running the UK. There isn't a single one that I'd feel comfortable voting for right now!
Load More Replies...The people at this building sound like very decent people to give a little kitty a home and a job. Who is the jerk that felt like this was something to complain about. You don't want to step on the cat, well then pay attention to where you walk. This cat is so cute and looks so handsome in his work clothes.
A friend of mine’s husband has a law practice in their town. A lovely kitty from the neighborhood decided that she loved Jim and his office (originally a house). She kept coming around, so Jim took her in. She made herself at home and acts as the official greeter in his practice. In actuality, her people live nearby, but can’t really afford much for her, so Jim vets her, has gotten her toys, beds , goodies and such, and spoils her in general. (He even put a special bed for her on his side desk.). She has a kitty door to the building to come and go as she likes. Her people know that she chooses to live much her day with Jim and his staff, and they are grateful that he generously provides the things that they can’t. For his part, Jim knows that his neighbors down the street are her “real family”, but he enjoys providing needs and spoiling her in ways he knows that they can’t afford. His assistant even created a Facebook page just for her—“Fluffy the Office Cat”.
Allergies? What if your stuff on your desk kept getting knocked off? What if you just have a fear of domesticated animals? I loooove cats but I get it that not everybody has to.
Load More Replies...I believe Dr Jekyll, the "fluffy orange cat" is currently President. We should have voted for Limberbutt!
He is so cute. I would rather work with him than most of my co-workers, we would probably be more productive. ha ha ha I love that they hired him, I love going into businesses that have pet ambassadors. People who don't like animals are kind of like the Grinch and their hearts are two sizes too small.
What kind of monster complains about this sweet angel!?! I love Leon, he’s adorable!!
This is wonderful. Compassionate and caring. ..everyone who enters the building must be put at ease! 💜❤💜
This post warmed my heart today and uplifted my spirits! What these lawyers did was awesome, every institution should have an animal representative!
I would recommend reading about Nitama, the official station master at Kishi station in Japan, and her predecessor Tama.
Oh yes, Super Station Master Tama! RIP. Glad to hear they are carrying on her tradition.
Load More Replies...LOL... That's not an ordinary stray that looks like a siamese/Himalayan... a pure bred... Anyways... My husband turned me into a cat aficionado, I have my Rott and GSD but we got 3 little Catos lol....
I can assure that's an ordinary stray. We have A LOT of strays like that in Brazil. One of my cats was rescued from the streets while pregnant and she had 4 babies just like that one. They're super common in Brazil.
Load More Replies...how much does he charge an hour? i can see this as an idea for a movie
I have heard that he sometimes do ad hoc work if some mice have been thrown his way ...
Load More Replies...Its cute and all but what if a client comes in who's allergic and is greeted by the cat "whether they like it or not"? My sister's eyes swell shut when she's around cats. They even swelled up when she helped my brother carry a tv that our neighbors gave him that their cat used to lay on.
Hi There, I have a similar post on my blog that talks about everything you need to know about the Maine C**n Breed, If you are equally a Maine C**n Lover and have been looking to adopt a Maine C**n Kitten for your Family You can check out my site for available Maine c**n kittens. Your article is really helpful has great detail about the breed and I hope to share it on my blog to let my audience know more about this breed before adopting one. Thank you Wiz
What kind of heartless a-hole would complain about this little cutie? Siamese cats are the best. This little snow shoe Siamese is adorable, I would have taken him in in a second. He'd fit in with my other two. 1351309382...36c702.jpg
Cat holds official position in 10 Downing Street. I also believe there used to be an official ‘mouser’ at both Buckingham Palace and in lots of Scottish whisky distilleries.
Cat's are an excellent judge of character in people, I hope he is awarded Employee of the Year!!
I hope he gets employee of the year award!!! Cat's are an excellent judge of people!
Super happy they are helping other animals too. Hopefully/likely a tax write-off ---- but the best kind!
What a refreshing take on lawyers! Makes 'em look good for once (of course, it helped to have a cat with personality!).
That's a great idea shame on complainers beauty heart person for saving that adorable cat
Well, this is the first time I am reading something this hilarious on the web. I really love cats and the idea of seeing one in an official office is an add to my love for cats. Good geature
Hmmm. I might have to retract every rude comment I've made about lawyers after reading this.
A wonderful story, good people are around us,the kitten is beautiful and seems at home and content, I am sure he will be extremely pampered, that makes me incredibly happy, also the fact that the lawyers will help with the sheltered cats, God bless you all !!!
Gomez Catstar makes a great lobbyist so I think this friend definitely would make a great lawyer. I think it's time the non-humans in general run the show for a while in politics and all fields
I do realize there are those who simply don't like animals but good gravy, I'd love to be welcomed by an official or unofficial animal greeter in an office. It also made me laugh because we have a medical doctor in the area, a Dr. Leon.
congrats on your promotion, Dr. Leon the lawyer Cat, well deserved!!
He's adorable! And what a fantastic thing the organization did, hiring him so he could stay around! (On a side note -- is "catto" a word? I mean, I feel like dogs wouldn't mind being called "doggo", it kinda works, but "catto" just sounds ... silly. At least I think a cat would think so. They're pretty sophisticated creatures (or at least like to think they are).)
What kind of heartless person would be upset about a kitten hanging around
The same sort as shoot at them or aima car to run them over.
Load More Replies...I just want to know who is responsible for the cat's veterinary care and other expenses. Also get him neutered....
I just feel sorry if you have to fork out for antihistamenes to go to work now. But that doesnt mean the cat isnt gorgeous. Just a better more appropriate place could have been arranged for it.
Once I was working in an office where we had a lady who was terrified by cats. The office was in an apartment house (that's common in Europe) where a family had an outdoor cat. I saw our colleague to arrive shaking and crying couple of times. So I can imagine that someone has a hard time to deal with something that is related to an old trigger. However I just have the feeling that this is a great PR trick. Clever move, because people will remember the company as a hero. I am sorry, but media (including Bored Panda) never shares real sources. We see pictures and read an added story. Maybe it's related, maybe not.
Agnes, please, read the story first. It helps calm those nerves, you know. You see, "the Order of Attorneys of Brazil (which is pretty much the Brazilian Bar Association)" is definitely not a company.
