"Fix it in post" is a phrase uttered by filmmakers who screw up a shot but don't want to undertake the time-consuming process of redoing it and hope that the editor will remove or obscure the mistake in post-production to make it less apparent to the viewer.

Judging from some of the posts on the subreddit r/WellThatSucks, however, it seems that contractors also live by these words. But when their Plan B fails, the consequences are much bigger than a broken suspension of disbelief. Like a hallway that looks like a scene from the Titanic.

Scrolling through this online community, we at Bored Panda noticed many more reasons why homeowners end up getting a feature there, with natural disasters and failing appliances being the most popular ones. So we published a collection of all the misfortunes that caught them off guard. Then another one. And now it's time for the third rendition of things you wouldn't like to find in your house.

My Dog Has Locked Me Out Of The House. It Is Raining…

Even though there can be many surprises, a hot housing market is often causing buyers to forgo a home inspection prior to purchasing a property, something experts say puts them at risk.

"The housing market has changed since I started my business in 2008, especially in the last two and a half years," said Bruce Jacobs, a registered home inspector who operates Jacobs Property Inspections in Waterloo Region, Canada.

"The inspections I do most often today are those after the home buyer gets the key to the house and they have possession."

Leigh Gate, president of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors, estimates that only 15 percent of sales in the area include a home inspection.

"If we look at 2019-2020, probably about 85 percent of homes were being inspected during a real estate transaction, and that has really fallen significantly," Gate said.

"And the reason for that is the imbalance in the market."

"It's been a hot market for years. But it's the imbalance that is the issue. And that's supply and demand," Gate highlighted.

"[There are far fewer] homes for sale right now than there is a demand for buyers. So, if you are going into a competitive bidding situation, because in Ontario we typically use the blind bidding system, for someone to stand a chance at buying a home, they would have to go in with their very best purchase price offer and they would have to remove as many conditions as possible."

Jacobs said that people shouldn't fully trust a house just because it looks beautiful. It's just the lipstick. What's behind the walls, though?

"You get a used car, it has to be safety inspected and it has to be certified, but you buy a house, it takes nothing," the home inspector said.

I'd have no issue with burning down that house. I inadvertently brought home bedbugs from a hotel and it was a mother to get rid of those boogers. Said hotel ended up paying for the damages.

These are the worst. F*****g hell. A nightmare. I used to have them, when I studied abroad and I was allergic to the bites. Had to leave the flat and had nowhere to go, because all of my stuff was infested. I had to rent a locker in the central trainstation and go to a washing salon for six days in a row to was every item. What couldn't be washed, was thrown away or I had to put in in a mini freezer in my hotel room my parents had to book me... It was hell.

I always worry about bringing home bedbugs, any bug! any time I'm on an airplane or in a hotel. When I get home, I strip in my garage, take a shower, throw my clothes in the washer, spray the suitcase with lysol, let it dry in the sun for a couple days, then store it in plastic. No bugs for me thanks!

This did not happen overnight. The renter was ignoring the problem and not telling the landlord. Also, I've seen far, far... FAR worse than this. Much worse.

Here's what I know from having a renter who didn't want the bug guy I had come into the rental every month because he, the renter, was growing weed and selling harder stuff. He bribed the orkin man to only spray outside and leave. By the time the yearly inspection came ,he of course bailed. I didn't know that bedbugs and roaches would hang in clumps, and everything in the place was completely ruined. We actually did have it burned by the fire department. There is no way. No way, I would buy anything from this guy.. I opened the door and had to back up to vomit. I said then I was not going to be a landlord ever again me not even air BNB. Here's the kicker, he was the son of a good friend. She was horrified at what happened. My takeaway is if you want to rent, be visible and have a walk through in the lease every two months. Also bedbugs have an odor that is very plain. I forgive him. Because carrying anger just hurts me. And I believe in every kind of insurance! So I was covered!!!

I found one at work, in an office cubicle setting. I about lost my mind for a month between itching just from the thought, and feeling the need to scan my environment constantly. I found detectors at the hardware store and hid them all over the department- I didn't work at a an ethical company, so I wanted to know there was definitely a problem that couldn't be denied, couldn't be blamed on me, before bringing it to HR attention. Fortunately I only found one more- and I put more detectors in that vicinity and no more. I figure a couple hitched on someone

Val Brooks, president of the Cambridge Association of Realtors, said some clients tell him that they have tried many times to get a home, but their parents insist that they have to get a home inspection. According to him, buyers want to take their parents' advice but the market is different than when mom and dad bought a house.

Still, Brooks thinks "it is absolutely imperative to have a home inspection."

"It does make it challenging, however, being that we are in a market where there are multiple offers. If you do put a home inspection in an offer, in all likelihood, you will never get it."

"More often, we see pre-listing inspections. I’ve certainly done that with some of my clients, which is to have an inspection done before a house is listed and then make that inspection available for potential buyers. Some people can say that it is weighted in the favour of the seller, however, if you have a viable and respectable inspector, he is not doing it in anybody’s favour. He's doing it on the condition of the house, not in the favour of anyone else."

As a realtor, Brooks said the advice for potential new homeowners is not to have a home inspection.

"I want to advise them to have a home inspection but I’m also going to tell them that if they put in an offer with a home inspection, they will not get the house," Brooks explained.

Gate said that typically with any house that's 15 years or older there are systems that are at the end of their life cycle.

"Roofing and HVAC are the two most common failures after 15 years, but the importance of a home inspection falls to safety and cost. Number one, if there is an electrical issue in an older home or even things like missing stair rails, those can all lead to personal injury," Gate said.

"The second thing is cost ... You exhaust all of your financial resources just trying to buy a house. Mortgage rates are higher, payments are higher, and housing costs are higher. Once you do find a problem in the home, people may not have the budget to fix it or fix it properly."
