My family is very likely related to Maria Pita, a famous spanish figure from the late 1500s. She was the wife of a merchant who got killed in a raid from the english army led by the brother of the pirate Drake. She saw her husband be killed and rallied several women to fight the conquerors, killing Drakes brother in the process. It sounds like a legend but there is historical documentation about it happening. She even received some money from the king as "soldier" when she was older.
