I think that abortion should be up to the individual person who is pregnant, not up to the "states," or a bunch of old men without any way of getting pregnant
I think it should be up to the woman, it’s her body and her circumstances.
Frankly, I'm scared. Not so much for myself (I've had my tubes tied, and I'll be hitting menopause in a few years), but for my daughter. She's 9. She's exceptionally intelligent (not above average, but on the higher end) and has an aptitude for math. She wants to go into either astronomy or engineering, and she shows a natural inclination toward that kind of thing. How do I tell her that a large number of her fellow citizens don't think she should be trusted with her own body decisions? We're not talking about tattoos and body piercings here. We're talking about a decision that could literally destroy her mind (trust me, postpartum depression is not a joke) and/or her body (and no, I'm not talking about her weight)? A pregnancy at the wrong time can derail her entire life. She's only 9, but she won't be 9 forever. But I'll ALWAYS be her mother because I was able to CHOOSE to be her mother.
There isn't any good argument against abortion. Even if you consider a fetus a person (I do not) abortion is still valid. The government cannot force you to donate bloor or part of an organ, to risk your health and body, even if its to save a living person. If my brother is dying I cannot be forced to give him half of my liver. But somehow conservatives want to force women to use their bodies and risk their health and loves to keep a fetus alive.
Just no.
That's how all laws are. Do you think the state has removed your personal power by taking away your power to drive drunk? Maybe you're an anarchist though and so you do think that. And there will be voting, there has been in the past.
It's not a ban. Individual States will vote on their own laws. Power to the people, baby!
The power has been removed from the people and put into the hands of the states. Instead of the individual deciding whether they want an abortion or not, the state has already decided for them. There is no voting, only the passing of laws that go against the majority of the US's opinion.
