Let's say, for the purposes of argument, that this were indeed true. Would it matter? In some ways, it accurately describes the world we live in. After all, our death is certain, so we can can be said to be in the state of dying from the moment we are born. And, so if we take the perspective of viewing our existence from our only certainties, we are either experiencing our life moving from its beginning, or experiencing our life moving towards its eventuality. They are effectively the same thing, just from different angles.
No so much a conspiracy theory, but more of a fun mental experiment. If we can develop an accurate and realistic simulation of the universe, populated with AI people, animals, etc. Then we would be able to duplicate that simulation into multiple servers, replicating and manufacturing as much as we want. Shortly after this event happens, we'd have more instances of the manufactured universe, than the real universe. So, when we achieve this level of sophisticated simulation, the likelihood that we exist in the real universe drops significantly as a ratio of real to artificial worlds. Furthermore, there may be a time when the AI people, develop begin to evolve technologically, and they also achieve the ability to develop accurate simulations of their universes. In which case, we may already be inside one such simulated existence. It could be argued that the Heisenberg uncertainty principle and quantum wave functions are example of a server only rendering the information necessary to convincingly simulate a universe. In the same way that your video games only render the images which are currently on the screen, our universe only "renders" the phenomena which are actually being observed.
If you are a high undergrad right now, this will blow your mind. Then you'll order two large pizzas and two liters of coke and feel better about it.
