UK: I recall my grandfather telling a story set just before the outbreak of World War II. Him and a few friends decided to march on Downing Street and explain to the on duty policeman that they were 'jolly cross'. Afterwards they returned home for a nice cup of tea and some cucumber sandwiches which my grandmother had prepared. It was a terrible time.

Spanish here. The fascist army staged a militar coup in 1936 and started a civil war that lasted three years. They won and Spain went from being a Republic (flawed but democratic) to being a fascist dictature.

Then after forty years of we became a democracy in 1978. Three years later some militars started a coup, entered the Congress and threatened the politicians working there. At the end the coup failed but it was scary how close we were to be in another dictature.

According to my English side of the family: We did most the sieging in history, but on home turf, probably Guy Fawkes!
