What’s your favourite present someone has given you or that you’ve got for someone else? Maybe it wasn’t the most expensive but a lovely handmade gift or one with a lot of thought put into it 🙂

On the 14th November 1999 we took our cat Cassius to the vet’s, can’t remember what for but it was nothing really; we decided to bring our other cat Cleo along, just for a check-up.

The vet spent 1mn with Cassius and proceeded to examine Cleo.
He told us she had a tumour on her liver and wouldn’t see the new year. As I said it was the 14th November, 2 days before my birthday.

On my birthday I went downstairs and I found Cleo chasing her tail.
I accepted that she didn’t have long to go, but still, best present ever.

(She made it till March 2000.)

Best gift ever. Life. My ex hubby had Covid and then Covid pneumonia soon followed. After 5 weeks in icu with a zero to ten percent chance to live, he’s heading to a rehab unit soon. I didn’t think he’d make it to thanksgiving let alone Christmas. Get your 💉 jabs peeps. He was a healthy 56 year old. This can kill even strong men. Merry Christmas.

2007 Birthday gift. I traveled by car a lot for my job and my company didn’t provide a smart phone. Whenever I needed a different route, I’d call my husband at his job who who would Map-Quest me a different route. That year, he got me a dash-mounted TomTom; John Cleese’s voice provided the directions! I loaded all the usual locations onto the TomTom and away I went. Sounds like a boring gift but I actually loved it - it was so thoughtful and something I used daily. It was pretty much cutting-edge technology and I logged well over 10k miles that year.

The best gift I've been given were year-long tickets to Universal Studios! We went almost every other week and it was awesome! The best gift I've given to someone else was a Spotify playlist of all of his favorite bands! Saying it out loud sounds really lame, but you should've seen his reaction! It made me so happy ^^

Please no laughing of jokes, but I was fortunate enough to be given the chance for a better quality of life, especially in regards to my mental health and self confidence. I was gifted a donor organ when I thought there wasn’t any hope.
1993 had been a brutally hot summer and our portable fan, without a protective screen, was always on. One afternoon was so hot I stripped down to my birthday suit. Without paying attention, my most private part got tangled in the spinning blades, slicing and mangling it beyond recognition. The sight and pain was so bad I passed out. There wasn’t much the surgeon’s could do but amputate, leaving a short stub. After it healed the stub was still perfectly functional for relieving purpose. I know that a person’s self worth should not be tied to physical traits, but it’s hard to reconcile those thoughts when you feel less of a man. I convinced myself that no woman would ever want me, let alone love me. I was in a depression spiral.
It was around this period I became aware a donor organ could be attached, and there was actually a waiting list. I had assumed all organ donations were of the internal variety. I asked to be placed on the waiting list. Eighteen months later no donors, life felt hopeless. Then out of the blue my doctor informed me of a match and I had to be prepared for surgery immediately. Anyway the surgery was successful and ten months later I awoke to my first morning wood in years. It has been fully functional since and I have a wife and two wonderful kids.
I never knew whom the donor was and get sad thinking that someone died, but I am eternally grateful for his gift.

Best present I received: a close friend involved about 40 of my friends and asked them to send her pictures of me and them, that show our friendship. She copied them, put them in order and made a book out of it. That is just awesome and made me drop some tears.

Best thing (in my opinion) I gave to someone: I recorded a DJ set (mixtape) for my ex. Sounds boring, everybody has done this. The special thing is the effort and the collection. I introduced her to electronic music and she evolved a preference for melodical, soft house tunes. Which I don’t really like - I’m more the techno guy. I searched for tracks she might like and months before her birthday I started to play these tunes occasionally and ask her if she likes it or just observe her reactions. I cutted vocals from one song and transferred them to another. I rerecorded songs In other tempos and pitch levels to fit them in the arrangement. I looped special parts of songs that she liked and build own drum loops to carry them into the mix. In the end it took me several tries to record the set until I was happy with the result.

She never appreciated it. First question: why are the transitions so shitty? Keep on playing techno, house isn’t your thing. Damn girl. Glad that we go our own ways now.

The best gift I ever received was a set of the complete edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. It was given to me by my then boyfriend. I really appreciated it for what it was but I was also so happy that I was going out with someone who had the guts to give me something I wanted, even though it would seem weird to many people, instead of giving me what's usually seen as a good gift for women, like jewelry. The best gift is when someone gives you what you want instead of what they think you should want.

As for the received part: An Xbox Series S, I bought RDR2 on it, nuff said.

As for the given part: My father is an Avid fisher, but because he works on a per contract basis and we’re in nebraska, we needed to purchase a fishing license and we didnt have that type of money at that point. So me and my fathers friend (Who actually owns the house we stay at) decide to buy him a license and fishing gear. So I got him a Fishing license and some bait, and his friend got him a new pole.
