Maybe your boss fooled you for a long time until they let the mask slip. Maybe there was a long pattern of weirdness, and one day it was just too much to excuse. When did you know your boss was crazy?

Had a manager when I started my first job who seemed super nice and normal. She even invited me out with a couple other coworkers to play pool. I was 18, completely introverted, and knew nothing about pool. But I went anyhow because I had no friends and wanted to make some. It was while at the bar, learning how to play, that I got my first inkling that she might be a little off beat.
Within an hour of being there, I came to realize she was sleeping with one of the other managers. The way they behaved around one another, there was no doubt. This was after learning she was living with her boyfriend. So first things first, she's a cheater.
Then she asked if I smoked. I thought she meant cigarettes. She didn't even mean weed. She was talking HARD stuff. So, druggie.
Then I learned she was not only having sex with the other manager, but she was doing it at work in the bathroom. So, unprofessional.
THEN I watched her storm out of the office one day all p*ssed off and learned she had beed fired for stealing from the safe. So thief.
And then on top of all that, the manager she'd been sleeping with? He ended up moving back in with his dad when she went and BURNED HIS HOUSE DOWN cause he broke up with her.
So... Crazy. Yeah.
Not my boss, but I was there for the aftermath: The new critical computer system is simply a giant bug in software clothing, but none of the bosses are ready to acknowledge it. So first one of the workers gets written up for straight up telling what's wrong with it like "We can't do this job, the program crashes every time. This must have been done by [offensive words about animals] while high. Next written warning is also to a worker who says, without cursing this time, that it can't be done, because the program won't let them (this is insubordination). Last one before a lot of people left was when one worker burst to tears during a meeting because they felt overwhelmed. This was a considered a direct attack on the bosses authority and an attempt to undermine the work morale.
When my former boss falsified data to meet metrics requirements for a grant-funded program. I started looking for a new job shortly thereafter.
When I saw his car - a purple Porsche 924.
Former manager had no self-esteem at all. Encountered a customer putting her hand in my manager's face. I tried to intervene but manager wrote me up for "disrespecting customer." I told she was crazy to be disrespected by the customer but as they say. "not my monkey, not my circus/"
When he made my coworker overwhelmed and dismissed her feeling.
This happened few years ago when I worked in an event organizer company. There I had an ex-boss which is notoriously crazy. He likes to talk, and won't stop once he opened his mouth. One time, he brought an employee from our Malaysia branch to our office to help the upcoming event. Mind you that that time the Malaysian employee has lost her grandfather a week before. She was really close with her late grandfather and still couldn't cope with her loss. Especially in her family, when a relative dies, they mourn for quite long time. So I say one week was not enough for her to go work, let alone going for business trip to a place that she ever been for the first time. She pushed herself, and my ex-boss was being so insensitive.
According to her, he talked nonstop during the trip, scolded her, saying she can't do anything right and so on. My coworker is a quiet girl, she didn't say anything back.
Then, the D-day came. This event was held in a big mall. When we preparing for the event, ex-boss asked her to do some research in the hotel room. He didn't allow my coworker to help with the event until she finished the research. Not a wise decision when we were short staffed. Nevertheless, he sent her back to the hotel room.
When she finished, she came back to the event venue and showed the research. Ex boss was not satisfied, so he yelled at her. In the public. My coworker broke down and cried quietly. She said she was overwhelmed. She couldn't process anything well especially when ex boss doubted that her grandfather really died. She brought the death certificate and willing to show it to ex boss if necessary. I run to her and hugged her. Ex boss was mad at me for doing so, and told me that I couldn't allow her to cry in the public because it's inappropriate. He told me to bring her to another place. I was livid, but couldn't do anything because I didn't want it to escalate. So I brought her to another place and tried to console her. My heart broke for her.
After the event, other management guys said that ex boss was right. Well yeah, I don't work with people or company who dismiss their employee's feeling. So not long after that I quit. And not long after I quit, the company closed the office because they couldn't get any job here. Seems like they closed the Malaysia branch as well but I don't care. Screw that company.
