Hey Pandas, What Lesson Should Future Generations Learn From Us? (Closed)

Our generations (mostly the Baby Boomers, Generaton X, the Millenials, and Generation Z) have been through a lot in our time here on Earth. What is the biggest lesson future generations should learn from us, whether from our accomplishments or our mistakes?

Climate change is real, don't ignore it.
There will be no need for them to be reminded on this one. They will experience the impact firsthand.
Sensible gun laws save lives!
Beat me to it, and more succinctly, @Freya the Wanderer. Upvote one million times. If you think you need that much weapon, you need *therapy*, unless you're in the military... In which case, you'll probably need therapy anyway.
A bit bleak, maybe, but we’ve learned nothing from history and probably never will. Also, wash your hands often during flu season.
Profits are fine, but greed can easily take over. If the quest for profit becomes detrimental to society, it's OK to pass laws and regulations in order to reign in the greed.
All you have to do is look at things a hundred years back and see where profits had to be reeled in for public/environmental saftey: Child labour, shorter work weeks, safety regulations, food regulations, environmental regulations and on. There is sadly a segment of society that would happily dig up and sell their grandmother's bones if they thought there was a buck in it. They have to be tethered.
When you are old enough to vote, use your mind before you commit to a candidate and never, never, never elect scum like Donald tRUMP.
Leaving a better planet for your children seems nice but teaching children to be better people to leave for the planet may be more proactive.
Seriously, stand up for yourselves. Fight for better wages, working conditions, and whatever else. Don't just take what you get.
Don't be too dependent on other people. You are the blacksmith of your own success.
This one is very important. If you need your relatives or government to survive, you will not have control over your life-they will.
Life is tough. But so are you ;)
Get to know a person before disliking them, their race, their religion, sexual orientation, et
Be patient with others and learn to compromise. Work together with your communities and nation. Cooperate as a team. It's not all about one single person.
Not everyone can get what they want because not everything you want is good for you, and not everything that's good for you is what you want. Sometimes it's what you need.
The world is run by corporations. The corporations need to humble themselves. The people drive corporations. This is where you can make big, positive impacts like you never would have believed.
It's okay to not have big ambitions. Most people won't become leaders or revolutionaries. It's okay to strive for greatness, but at least have fun and enjoy the journey. Don't take your job too seriously. You'll not be working there forever.
Stupid, dangerous "challenges" for social media, just don't. But maybe by your time it will be old and uncool for a long time. We are embarrassed for this pox in society. Please know most of us were smarter than that.
Take chances with caution. Just know even when you fall you, no matter how hard, you can always pick yourself up.
Tough times will show up and be out of your control. It won't be forever.
Sometimes the world may seem it's ending but it's not. It's just it's way of shaking up society to remind us of how vulnerable we are and that we shouldn't take fore granted what we have now.
Children need be taught manners, self-discipline and consequences.
Yes, also compassion, empathy, and love. And that manners have no place if you are in danger or an abusive situation.
Maybe we'll learn to appreciate how little time we have and leave the world a better place than we found.
Also, maybe we'll learn how vane we all were during this period.
Do stuff because it is the right thing to do, not just the expedient thing to do. When you consider "next week, next month, next year" instead of just today, you build systems that not only last, but are better for people and for the world.
Begin saving for your retirement NOW. Do not expect anyone or the government to make your golden years golden. You may pay into Social Security but there is no guarantee that Social Security will pay you back. Take control of your finances. Do not use credit cards unless you pay them off each month. SAVE. Put money away for emergencies. Have 3-4 months of savings to cover you in case you lose your job.
The Dave Ramsey 7 Baby Steps changed our lives. We are minimum wage workers with 4 children, one on the way…we are 34 and 35 and our mortgage is going to be paid off in the next year or so because we followed this method. It works for anyone-if you are low income it may be slower but you can do it (or just avoid debt to begin with-it’s not worth it). Use an emergency fund instead-if you are young and haven’t become independent yet, grow a large emergency fund before you do anything else, and plan a strict budgeting before you move out. Read Dave Ramsey’s books, listen to the radio show, watch his channel, take the Financial Peace class. A budget is not restricting-it’s freedom! It’s how you know you can pay your bills, get groceries, and have fun with no guilt or worry. By living this way, we will get by on part time and we spend a LOT of time just having fun with our kids-no 9-5!
That whole future we're waiting for with flying cars and technology straight out of science fiction, yeah... we missed the boat. Should have gone with Tesla instead of the bureaucratic fossil peddlars. Whether or not we can affect the necessary change to save this world with us in it remains to be seen. I hope I'm wrong, but I have to say it's looking grim. Change doesn't happen without an uprise from the masses, working in unity, and with the fortitude to see it through to the end. Never settle for pretty words masking empty promises.
Reciprocate love with love, but do not beg for it. We, sometimes, do not value our truly beloved ones.
The fight will always be with us. The fight against tyranny, inequality, environmental harm, bigotry and war will never cease, though I have hopes that someday it won’t be so dire. We are never at the end of the story or the beginning of a new one, but always in the long middle, where every defeat is temporary, and every victory is fragile and must be vigilantly protected at all times from an uncertain future, and from the people who would tear it down to further not humanity’s needs, but their own goals.
Complacency is humanity’s worst enemy. In the last century, every despot in a previously non-despotic nation has gained and held power by first his own citizens not thinking he was that much of a threat, or that his lies or methods aren’t so terrible, or not their concern—yet—and then by that country’s neighbors thinking the same until it is too late.
Complacency seems to be our problem. Oh, just ANOTHER school shooting. The worst in ten years shouldn’t be said. Thoughts and prayers are working beautifully
That it is completely ok to be offended, and NOT have some outcry overaction!
You can't really plan everything and rely on expectations. So live in the moment, as cheesy as it sounds.
So true! Planning to rely on expectations is the wrong way to go. Life is always changing and we need to adapt to those changes.
It doesn't matter who you are, what you believe, what you wear, who you love, or where you come from. People are people. We need to treat others equally and not discriminate others.
And don't forget, people need to mind their own business. Don't like gay marriage, don't get a gay marriage. Don't like the LGBT community, stop commenting there. Simple! If it is not harming another, leave them alone and mind your business!
If you live to please others, you will never feel happy about yourself because where you find happiness is in others. Live how you want. Do your own thing. Sure, people will judge you for it but guess who will end the day still smiling because they know who they are and are content being who they are!!
If you can't make something better, at least don't make it worse for the next one after you.
Be proactive in general, stop waiting/hoping for things to change, for others to solve your problems, for society looking after you (eg. pension). Staying passive will only set you up to be the victim of circumstances
Get educated, then marry, THEN have children.,
That noble experiment known as the United States of America has, as one of its core features, a separation of church from state. What needs to be learned and understood is that there is one religion which unifies church and state, breaking that fundamental rule. That religion is the Worship of Money. The Love of Money causes an unfathomable depth of depravity and degradation in the society and culture of the United States. Politics could not function, as it has been for centuries, without the Worship of the Dollar. Money is worshipped!
Yes-it is to be managed properly, without using debt-use emergency fund and $0 budget-read up on the Dave Ramsey methods! Money is a tool to live-you manage it, use it to live, and you GIVE. You are not to love it or obsess-use it correctly.
Don't put off today's problems for tomorrow and listen to the facts. If you ignore the problem, it's just going to grow, and grow, and grow, until you can't do anything about it anymore, and we DON'T want to get to that point.
Also, check the qualifications of who you vote for, and do research first. There are some really stupid politicians out there, and you don't want to end up voting for them, because that could put us all in a really bad position.
Finally, there are always going to be stupid people and people who don't listen to the rules and listen to the facts. Just be prepared, no matter how much proof you have, there will always be people like that.
You can't control others actions, only how you react to them.
You have to love yourself before anyone else can.
Don't depend on others for your happiness.
Tell people you love them every day, even if you're mad at each other.
We dont need plastic packaging on fruit like bananas and oranges , any thing that needs peeling really
it may sound cheezy, but love ur self the way u r. who cares what others say!
Know where your food comes from and how to get/ grow/raise more if the supply chain breaks down. Also, when c**p goes wrong people loose their minds and start aggressively hoarding the weirdest c**p.
Just because someone does not agree with you or has a different lifestyle, does not make them (insert type)phobic. Please stop thinking people have these phobias just because it does not align with YOUR way of thinking!
It's not all about the highest credit score, or top education, or working like a slave, or what they think. It's about happiness, respect, self worth, love.... and so much more.
Everything we're doing...Do it the OPPOSITE way!!!!
Don’t take use the common sense advice that everyone else is following if you don’t like how everyone else is living. Break those rules and do the unconventional things that the people who’s lives look great to you are doing. If you want to be free-don’t get trapped in student loans or feeling like you must have a high earning career that traps you Mon-Fri. That’s a sad thing…there are better and more free ways to live and enjoy life
Be informed, but don't idealize politicians.
People on both sides of the political aisle believe they are right, and we should understand why they hold their beliefs before we characterize them as evil or stupid.
There are good and bad people on each political side.
Love thy neighbor as thyself. If we would just focus on that the world would be a much better place. Think about how much people love themselves!
Future generations will have to be taught in history class, that once upon a time there were people who were not white billionaires, and that they used to just walk around exposed to the atmosphere without any life support systems.
They will learn their lesson as they pay our bills.
As we did for the boomers.
This is the way of life.
Don't let liberals get a hold. They mean well but they F**k up every single thing
It makes me want to quote a song. "Every generation Blames the one before And all of their frustrations Come beating on your door" -The Living Years Song by Mike + The Mechanics
When I was younger I subscribed to my Father’s thought of “pull yourself up buy your bootstraps”. It’s not possible anymore. Houses cost 800k and the pay is the same 15 years ago. I never thought I would say boomer, but it makes sense now
And by the way, who was giving out participation trophies in 92? Not the kids, reap what you sow and don’t b***h about it.
