Doctors are helpful and are doing it well but sometimes there is the feeling when there is something wrong.

When my wife went to see an endocrinologist, he constantly looked at me and never addressed her directly. Eventually, she leaned her had in front of mine and asked if the doctor wanted to actually speak to her. He blew her off and asked his assistant to schedule a follow-up appointment.
So, in answer to the question: I'd say lack of eye-contact between the physician and the actual patient would be a huge red flag.
I almost can't believe it when I hear this stuff because it's so ridiculous to me that this would happen this day and age. But I've heard of women who have gone to get their tubes tied or want to get birth control who have to ask their husbands first. It's infuriating and they should be sued.

One of the worst things about a doctor is when they assume.
We have regular meetings at our clinic and I always repeat that, even if it is clear what the condition is because we've seen it a thousand times this week, still do the checks/tests. The one time you don't will be the one time it goes wrong.
When my ex wife and I took our 6 month old daughter for her first checkup. The doctor told us she was too chubby! Mind you my ex was 5’7” 115 lbs and I 6’2” 190 lbs so no signs it would lead to a future issue. Never went back.
One time, when my usual doc was on vacation and named another practice to fill in for the time and I had to go there because i got sick, the stand-in doc was all judgemental and condescending. Like not in a caring "you could benefit from a healthier lifestyle" kind of way but rather like she was trying to give me the impression that it was my own fault that I got sick.That is the one vibe your doctor should not be giving off.
I went to the dentist for a chipped tooth (half of it was gone) and they said it was fine. The next time I went (4 months later) the tooth hurt very, very badly. They told me I had a bad cavity and asked why I didn't tell them about this tooth before. We ended up paying 3,000 and something dollars for a crown, and then a removal after it had an abscess above it.
My answer, pretending that something is fine until it really isn't and the patient has to pay WAY more than they did before.
When the Floor Doctor visited me in the ER and went over my history (chronic Back pain, Fracture spine twice) and current Medication, and says she will make sure I'm comfortable when I get admitted.
Then on the next day after being admitted, I tell her I am hurting, she yells at me and says I shouldn't be in any pain.
My sons’ pediatrician constantly touched them gently on their chests, shoulders, stomachs while my wife and I were present. It made me uncomfortable. Don’t know if anything ever happened to him.
In a clinical sense, I agree. However he used the back of his fingers on their chests. That crossed a line.
When they come into your room reading your paperwork and proceed to ask you questions while still reading. No eye contact, no connection. Do your homework, Doc! My favorite doctor ALWAYS asked me the same question when he came into see me: "What's new with your dog?" He then proceeded with his visit/reason for my appt. 100% eye contact; 100% attentive. I know in 5 minutes whether to keep a doctor, or find a new one.
Big red flag for me is when you tell them you’re in pain and they just say to take ibuprofen and treat you like an addict. Without ever finding out WHY you’re in pain. Another is when they refuse to discuss anything other than what you came in for and say you’ll need an another $75 appointment. I get that they wanna get paid but if I’m in there to get checked out for a random illness and ask if they can re-send one of my (unrelated) prescriptions I think they should just do it. Takes 5 seconds. I’m not paying to come back tomorrow and repeat myself. But of course they need an exam before they’ll send for more nausea meds that they prescribed 2 months ago.

How they treat their staff. If they treat them poorly run. A doctor is only as good as his support.

Yes!! Such a shortage of doctors in our town. Nobody's taking new patients except the guy who told me all about the filthy reasons the patient before me was pregnant again. I would rather have no doctor (use the walk-in clinic where they don't know you and there is no continuity of treatment) than ever go back to him.
First when they do not look at you while you are explaining your symptoms and keep interrupting you. That doctor is not interested in what you have to say and will not treat you well.
Second when they dismiss your complaints and make comments like "it shouldnt be painful" "you just need to relax" "you need to be patient". It means that they wont take your illneses seriously and will not treat you.
Third when you came back to them or somebody redirected you to them and they do not take 1min to read your file. They literarly have no idea about your history and illneses but think that they can diagnose you. I had plenty of doctors do that, giving me wrong and dangerous advice or even saying things like "how are your periods?" after my hysterectomy, or "you need to be more active" after telling them that a 15m walk gave me several days of intense pain and fever
My doctor did not listen at all recently. Been having deep pinching pain where my kidneys are located and he wanted to do a spinal x-ray and told me my kidneys are fine. Not sure what to do now.
They won't listen. Think they know everything. You lived you. You know you. True doctors listen and care. Your You. We are not.
