Nothing. Unfortunately it is their decision to adopt a dog into the house. First becauae they will be the ones paying the bills for the dog. Second because most likely the dog will remain with them once you go to tbe university. And thrid a dog should always be wanted by the entire household because it will affect everybody's lives. Noise, fur everywhere, mud prints, barking... Even the best dog still afects a lot the cleaning and quietness of the house.

I am sorry to say that because I love dogs but they are something that everybody needs to be on board. Maybe you should try to get a pet that can be in a cage so it only concerns you and not the others. For example a couple of guinea pigs (they need to live in pairs) or a syrian hamster (solitary). They need very big cages (comercial ones are too small) but they might be able to be in your room if its big enough. If you adopt one do please a lot of research online about cage sizes, most pet stores will sell you very cruel small ones.

Firstly you need to prove to them that you are responsible enough to care for another living being. Having a pet, any pet, is a great responsibility.

Also it might be the cost of a puppy. If you think this might be the case look at rescues instead? You could also offer to walk a friend or neighbours dog regularly. There’s nothing like picking up poop everyday to see if you really are willing to do the work on owning and training a dog.
