donate , cloths you dont wear. average American has been estimated to throw away around 37kg(81 lbs) of clothes every year. donating will be more environmentally friendly and theirs a lot of people with out proper clothing
Also, as Patriot Act points out. Instead of tossing your clothes, keep them as long as possible as donated clothes will most likely be burned causing more harm to the environment
I worker at a small thrift store when I was younger. We would sort items by grossness first. If it smelled, had piling, or generally icky. Clothing that is musty or smoky will affect the clothes it's hung next to. Making them all unsalable (these fabric items would be bagged and sent to a guy who makes and sells rags). If it was in decent shape but had a small hole or something that could be mended, we would try and sell it on our 50 cents rack. If it's in great condition we sort for winter vs. summer. We box the summer, put it in the attic and put the winter garments out in the shop after pricing. This place also gave out vouchers to people in need, who could then come pick up clothes for their kids or clothes for job interviews. So I agree that when we purchase a garment, we should use it for as long as possible, but the thrift stores I have been exposed to, do not burn clothing, we try to maximize the use and profit on every little thing. What the hell would we get for burning them?

People who toss their clothes in the trash are selfish brats. Do you know how many people in this world could wear that? Do you know why there's so much waste in the environment? Are you unaware of how impoverished some of your fellow citizens really are?
