Tell me about why you are/aren't religious

#1

I am an atheist because I never believed in a god or gods. I was raised jn a catholic family and school and I didnt even know that atheism was a rhing until later on. For years I tought that there was something wrong with me.

Now as an adult I am also against organised religion because traditional religions have no place in modern society. They were created in very different times and support outdated beliefs like sexism, xenophobia, homophobia and often are discriminatory and violent.

For me believeing in god(s) is fine but supporting religions like the abrahamic ones is an unethical thing to do.

I have no need for a religion.
Some people need it, I don’t

Oh its a long story. But basically i see religion as adults plaguing the minds of children to believe in flying psychic people in the sky, and before anyone corrects me, i dont give a third of a s**t.

I have no religion however idc if your Christian or Muslim ect, I used to be an extreme atheist and then I realised that was just immature, I do believe in interesting things the mind can do, ghosts/visions/déjà-vu I find the psychology around that rlly interesting and want to do a course in it

I never grew up in a household that believed in a god. Not even my family outside of my house did. I went to a catholic summer camp that I adored but it didn’t have a religious affect on me. Although I did and still have a certain respect for a higher power and the people that believe in such.
I still pray but not because I believe in something or someone that can grant me those wishes but because I need hope in my life when I feel like there is non.

I grew up free to believe in whatever i wanted, I choose to believe in a heaven/afterlife because its comforting when loved ones have died to think they go somewhere nice and i might see them again one day, i dont know if its true or not but i like to think that. I really like old cathedrals and churches theyre usually huge and empty with beautiful architecture and make me feel very calm and peaceful. i like to light candles for my relatives who passed away and sit quietly on my own rather than go to a service because im very shy, and a lgbtq+ goth so people might judge me and think im a witch or a devil worshiper or something 😅

I choose to stay in my born religion because it gives me peace. Not a good example of the believers though, cause I don't engage in the extreme idea and choose the mild and easy one. My atheist senior once tried to speak to me, and he gave up when I told him “the idea that I am solely responsible for everything that happens in my life is too frightening, I’m not ready for that. I find comfort here”

I'm a Christian. Wasn't brought up as one but I was Jesus found me when I was at school and I started attending church at university. It's the peace and forgiveness and hope I cling to. Life threw me so many more challenges since I became a believer, including losing my 7yr old brother to leukaemia during uni. But when I was at rock bottom, I always found God my rock there sustaining me.
