I know 2020 has had a bunch of ups and downs (mostly downs) and everyone has had their own experiences. I am curious to see what people answer.

I know there will be a bunch of Covids and politics, but I don't care. If that is your good or bad, go for it. Everyone thinks they are alone in their troubles, but they aren’t. If you relate to someone, upvote them and show them that they aren’t alone. Bored Panda has been good for me because it’s my escape from the world. It’s fun and people here can make you laugh. I want to get to know you bored pandas. Don’t be shy or afraid. No one is going to judge you on whether you share or don’t share. If you actually read all of this comment, “Fish” and I will appreciate you and give you an upvote.

GOOD:

Biden is President.

Trump went into the dump.

More time to practice my cello.

More time to watch TwoSetViolin (practice 40 hours!).

I get to play arrangements of my favorite pieces with my flatmates.

BAD:

I'm stuck at home with my flatmates/friends, who are great but can be a handful.

Orchestra practice on Zoom sucks.

I have to use a crappy old upright piano instead of a concert grand for practice.

Can't use the pianos in the practice rooms at my college, because COVID.

COVID.

I haven't cleaned my room since March.

I left my sheet music on campus.

I have to listen to my flatmate play Paganini on his violin for hours and hours.

Trump still exists (I guess he made it out of the dump).

Can't do string quartets without a viola (my flatmates are both violinists).

The acoustics in our apartment sucks.

My flatmate Rowan is a dork.

My other flatmate James is an idiot.

We've been eating takeout for the past few months because we have no time to cook in between school and work.

My room is a mess compared to my friends'.

COVID again.

Anti-maskers.

Australia's on fire again.

I was planning on going to the Sydney Opera House this year but that's canceled.

My horrible parents have tried to contact me. Bastards.

There's still white supremacy.

I was going to perform at the Boston Symphony Hall but that was canceled.

Karens at the bookstore I work at complaining why we don't sell shirts. SHIRTS. In a bookstore.

The actually nice people are named Karen.

My college went full virtual.

I ran out of bow rosin a few months ago and I keep on forgetting to get some more.

I keep forgetting that I need to replace my cello strings.

It's so f*cking cold here in Boston.

COVID.

COVID.

Trump.

COVID.

Good:
1. I got to experience online school, more online shopping, online... Everything.
2. I graduated from elementary school and am now in middle school.
3. I've become part of history. We know that the great Coronavirus pandemic will go down in history and be put into textbooks, and I get to tell my children stories about my life in the pandemic.

Bad:
1. Millions of people are suffering from COVID
2. I've missed graduating and I'm supposedly going to miss my entire first year of middle school, and I've missed out on basically everything.
3. Celebrities whom we all loved have died (Kobe Bryant, Chadwick Boseman, etc.) and I lost my innocence (most of it, anyway).

You just made me realize something. You've lived through a pandemic but not 9/11. The extreme would be someone who's been through this pandemic, 9/11, vietnam, korean war, great depression, WW2 (my dad was born in 1934 so he's done all of that).... So yeah, you get to tell your child all about life through the pandemic... and well, I guess I know a lot of people who have told stories all the way through WW2.

Got a flu or something in March that lasted til July. 100th anniversary of my Chorale, we have to rehearse by Zoom and record ourselves singing alone, but we are creating a concert, dammit! Refinanced house, used money for new roof tiles, new water heater and fridge, and a root canal. Husband's job shut down, took 2 months to get his EDD, but we did finally get it. His boss is paying his medical insurance during furlough. So a little good, a little bad.

Starting with the good stuff:
I managed to finish my apprenticeship as an office manager, got out of a horrible work environment and got a new job, which I really enjoy. I met someone new who I really like and think I can be good friends with. (It's really hard for me to make new friends). I am planning on moving in with my best friends of 13 years after she finishes school. I started working on my driving license, which I'm hoping to finish middle of january.

Bad stuff:
My mental health got really worse but I timewise can't effort to go to therapy.
I was getting really anxious and depressed over the span from beginning of this year to today.
Because of Covid I couldn't work from march to may, which was such a downer for me. Like I didnt like my job I had at that time but it's way worse to sit at home and be depressed because you cant do shit.
Because of the lockdown I gained weight again and my skin got worse
I wanted to travel to London again, which I couldn't because no one was allowed to leave the country.
I miss going out with friends.

But since not everything is horrible for me; I look really forward to 2021 and hope it gets better. Stay strong peeps :)

Good:
- Discovered my sexuality & a lot of other things about myself, found new hobbies, etc..
- Made some new friends I wouldn't have if not for circumstances caused by the pandemic
- Lots of good stuff for the environment
- Generally matured as a person
Bad:
- I mean, *gestures broadly at everything*
- Seriously though, my work ethic and subsequently my grades went down about as quickly as the economy.
- +* ANXIETY *+ (and other mental health issues just generally not doing well)
That's the main stuff I think. You know, as bad as 2020 has been (and it's been bad!), I actually think I'll come out on the other side a better person for it. Not everything is bad, and things will probably/hopefully gradually get better next year. :)

This year has allowed light to be shed on the true division of this country. I've wondered for the last 10 years just what it was going to take for the United States to come to blows with itself, a proper internal struggle. I think we've seen the start of it. Something is brewing. In this particular post election time frame, for instance, guns fans are stocking up on guns so much that there aren't enough to go around.
We've been given the opportunity to see that there are thousands of people who genuinely believe things true that can be proven false.
Essentially I think it's a good thing that we finally get to see the truth, that the world is going to have to battle another humanity driven issue.

The bad thing about this year is that there's no reset button on December 31st at midnight so it's not as though we get to start over.
Though we can't start over and we have to face what we've built up to so again, I see that as a good thing really.

I can only answer for Tucson, AZ. Downtown always had this no sitting/no standing rule about sidewalks to essentially keep the homeless from sleeping on the sidewalks. Since COVID grants have been given to downtown restaurants to create sidewalk seating. Many places that were strictly indoors, now have outdoor seating, which in AZ should have happened long ago. It’s becoming ver Parisian with all the little sidewalk tables and places to go. It makes my heart happy.

Bad: I haven't had a visitor, other than my son and a plumber, since late February. I haven't met up with friends for lunch or dinner. A good friend and art buddy was diagnosed with MS and is struggling. I've been watching too much TV. My plans to travel and attend art shows were screwed. I'm hearing about more friends and acquaintances getting or dying from Covid.

Neutral: I've only put 2000 miles on my car this year. A dear friend said I could use her time share anytime...but there's no where to go.

Good: I'm in good health. My art is getting better. I've worked from home for the past 5 years, so there was no adjustment issues with the pandemic. I put up a portable gazebo. I'm thinking of getting a miniature Schnauzer. I'm spending less money. Car insurance went down. I fine tuned my recipe for chocolate banana nut bread.
