Toxic religion is when religious rules are misinterpreted/exaggerated, and people use them wrongly, and end up hurting people

The Taliban used the Quran to justify all sorts of torture and oppression. This very small, extreme sect is responsible for poisoning Islam in the eyes of the world.

The Inquisition. The Salem witch trials. The Aum Kyo sect of Buddhism that gassed the Tokyo subway Pretty much the entire history of Ireland/North Ireland/England. The Crusades. Slavery.
I'm sorry to go on, and Religion has also done much good in the world. Faith in a higher being or beings has helped many people who facing personal crises, or grief stricken after a deviating loss. But I argue that that is religion, not Religion. The capital "R" is where the toxicity festers.

Perhaps you know the story of the elephant and the five blind men? Each of the men is asked what the creature in front of them was. They each examined a different part of the beast, and each came up with a different answer, of course. I'm sure you see the metaphor.

Religion, said some comedian, is like a penis; it's great to have one, even ok to be proud of it. But keep it in your pants, please, and for Moses' sake, don't use it as a weapon.

Again, apologies for being long-winded.

Christianity. Not saying that all Christians are bad, but many use things in the Bible to justify their crappy actions.

I'll go first. In Christianity, a lot of people still go off of when God told Adam and Eve to "be fruitful and multiply". People now force women to have kids because God said so. But, god said that when there was literally two people on earth. I don't think we would go extinct if less than a quarter of the population decides not to have kids.

I don't think anyone is really forcing women to have kids besides in third world countries. The problem lies with killing babies, not having kids.

The clobber verses that oh-so-pious So-called Christians use to justify their homophobia.
If you're a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, even you're an atheist, or a member of a non-Judeo/Christian, you get VERY familiar with the Bible.

Some Christian beliefs are pretty toxic. And a lot of people cherry-pick the Bible and carry it out in all the wrong ways. Btw, this is coming from a christian, please don't hate me ;-;
