Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker
It is a genre on its own! I can only describe it as an adult interactive, horror book, experience. It is a short but really fun read. It is about a demon stuck in that book. When you start to read it, it feels like it’s literally talking to you in that moment.

Heartstopper by Alice Oseman. It’s gay, but it’s so good, it’s a great escape from reality.

If you’re up for a serious challenge, Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban. It’s a post-apocalyptic story written entirely phonetically in a speculatively devolved dialect of English, as it may exist about 200 years after an apocalyptic event that wipes out most people and basically unmakes society.

If you’re looking for something more normal, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is a good longer read and The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson is a good short one.

Carmilla by J. Sheridan LeFanu is short and pretty queer if you’re into that.
