Hero Husky Finds A Box Full Of Near-Dying Kittens In The Woods, Becomes Their New Mom
Service dog Banner has a heart of gold. Not only is she dedicated to helping owner Whitney Braley with her disability, she also has a knack for rescuing other animals in need and caring for them.
The 3-year-old Husky has been together with Whitney since she was a pup, and Whitney trained Banner herself to assist her and others with a variety of things. “She alerts to PTSD episodes, anxiety attacks, migraines, guidework, momentum pull, medication retrieval, self harm interruption and a few more,” Whitney told Bored Panda. “We do a lot of rescue, and she’s always attached to kittens. Two years ago I had my first bottle baby kitten that was found in a ditch, and Banner raised her. That particular cat still lives with us but she’s fostered at least ten different liters of kittens over the years. This is the first time SHE found something like this.”
What she found was just heartbreaking. A sealed cardboard box in the woods, with 7 newborn kittens inside barely a day old and freezing to death. Banner alerted Whitney and led her to the woods, where after opening the box she proceeded to pluck out the tiny kittens, one by one. “Someone must have just put them into a cardboard box, closed the lid tight and left them there to die,” Whitney said in an interview with Metro. “They probably thought that no one would ever discover them. I don’t even know how Banner knew they were in there. The kittens were freezing and weren’t meowing or anything.”
“It makes me sick that anyone could do that to these tiny innocent animals. It’s so cruel and heartless.”
Since that moment, Banner hasn’t left the kittens side and has adopted them as if they were her own. “I got her spayed around 1.5 years old, but she’s very maternal,” Whitney told Bored Panda. “Now I will find the kittens appropriate homes, that will love them forever. Our local shelter kills in three days, so it’s best if I do it myself. That’s the reason I always end up fostering babies. I don’t want them to die.”
“I’m so happy that now because of Banner, these kittens will go on to live their lives with loving families. It warms my heart.”
Banner is a true hero, dedicated to helping other creatures and animals of all kinds. She also has her own Instagram and Facebook Pages, with thousands of followers. Check them out for updates on the kittens’ progress!

Share on FacebookAh, thank you, sweet girl, you saved those little fluffy babies! Dogs are so lovely and incredible animals; they deserve all the love of the world.
The owner is equally sweet and a compassionate person for taking them in and determining to find them new homes! Such a heart warming story. Also where do they live? Themyscira??? :o
Load More Replies...Just lovely. So many horrible acts of cruelty towards animals by us humans, how humbling to see this lovely act by another species. A beautiful heart warming story.
I HAD A COLLIE WOLF DOG that found some kittens when mom got hit by car. she brought then home one by one and actually began to nurse them as her own, until we found them all new homes. Dog are so much more instinctive then we give them credit for. There are Gods angels
Load More Replies...Over a million dogs and nearly a million cats are euthanized each year. The numbers are declining, but let this story inspire you to get your pet spayed or neutered. Certainly it's more cruel to leave them in a box than to euthanize humanely, but we can greatly reduce the number of unwanted animals.
I'm Bob Barker, reminding you to help control the pet population. Have your pet spade or neutered. ;)
Load More Replies...Sickening that some horrible person could dump the kittens to die.. Amazing and so incredibly fortunate that Banner found and cared for them. Truely heartwarming :)
I will never get the American concept of kill shelters (what a horrible combination of words). So incredibly barbaric. I am really happy we don't have them over here in Germany.
pls dont downvote me for stating a fact - I have seen pictures and videos of shamefully neglected dogs , also starved, shot, burned, beaten, used as bait, or just dumped like garbage
Load More Replies...This post, once again remind me that dogs can get along with everyone, even with their "eternal enemy"... Banner and Whitney, thanks for showing this, such a great story :)
Too bad the fiend that abandoned those helpless kittens will probably never be caught and punished. At least Banner found them! So much for cats and dogs being mortal enemies.
I love dog, especially huskies, they are beautiful! And what a monster can throw babies away like that!
My service dog, Max (also a husky) rescued an orange kitten and he is now the kitties mama. I don't have it in me to separate them.
I wonder how the dog will feel when she'll find new homes for them ...
barely a day old? You have to feed each by hand with small bottles {eye droppers} ? Big job
Why can't people just suck it up and bring the kittens to a shelter?!?!?
Aww - you just have to sigh with relief at posts ike this - good on you big dog x
I am not condoning it - i was 10 years old and distraught - just stating a fact
Load More Replies...Why don't people just get their animals fixed up. It's than a $100 in Australia for a female, so it's gotta be cheaper in the states...send the person who dumped them out there in the woods in a sealed box and see how they go.
The best story I've read on Bored Panda in some time. Kudos to this loving dog for saving these precious kittens!!
Banner is a very special loving dog, thank god she found those kittens in time !!
Anyone who would leave kittens in a box to starve deserves a good beating or worse. Thank you for saving them!
What kind of monster would seal a bunch of kittens in a box and leave them out in the woods to die? That SOB should be horse whipped.
That's why I have always had a radar for boxes or bags on side of road, Hwy's or just odd places. Once I found a kitten in a trash bag, some horrible people moved and literally threw her out with their garbage! Dogs and cats only want our love. If you can't keep them for life, don't take home that cute tiny kitten or puppy!!! Do these same people abandon their babies when their no longer small and cute?
I hope the person who did that to those kittens finds them self trapped in a box >:(
ah what a nice dog :) u are so lucky to have that really nice dog with a heart of gold also i like your dog :).
The Best Story Ever!!!! When I was Four I saved A baby bird and set it Back in its nest but the momma bird attacked me
Dogs never cease to amaze me, such stories are not a surprise, dogs are smart and loving !!!
It makes me wonder what happened to mama. Obviously it wasn't a feral mom that maybe died and couldn't come back to her babies. Someone took her babies. And you know cat and dog moms don't give birth and leave them, so not only did the person try to kill the kittens, they've left a mother feeling confused about where her babies went. That just breaks my heart as much as the trying to kill them. Just sick people in this world. As I've gotten older, I just can't handle these stories, it makes me so freaking angry and depressed.
Such young kittens require a lot of attention and nursing. You mention nothing about how they were being cared for by you before you found a loving home for them!
Why can't he just build a platform and let the birds just nest there! of course he should protect his ventilation, but give me a break, have a heart guty they want you !!!
Get your pets sterilized if you don't want baby pets. What kind of "human" do you have to be to (attempt to) kill animals like that?
OK but more details needed. did the human give them to foster kitten care-people? SOMEONE had to bottle feed them about every 2 hours round the clock at first and feed them for about 6 - 8 weeks, clean their bottoms, (mother cats do that, to encourage defecation and urination) and keep them warm. Yeah, nice pix of dogs/ kittens and its wonderful he saved them, but honestly, not being a female lactating dog he needed help. HOW he found them? To him, a dog with senses thousands of times better than 'ours' they would have been clearly "visible" by sound and odor for miles away.
Drown them? Did you just write drown them carefully humanely... Death by drowning isn't peaceful until you pass out, before that it's panic, breathing in water, a fight to live... I don't call that humane.
