Heartbroken Pit Bull Cries After His Family Leaves Him In A Shelter

When a high-kill shelter received this pit bull, nobody expected the emotional roller coaster he took them on. When one person offered Blue King (Blue for short) a treat, he sniffed it, but didn’t eat it. The only thing Blue did was cry behind the bars of his kennel door. Additionally, tears were dripping from his eyes, and some speculate that it was due to allergies.

Blue King’s family surrendered him to Carson Shelter in California because they decided to move and not take the dog to the new home. Since Carson Shelter is a high-kill facility, the longer Blue stayed there, the higher the chances of his euthanasia got. Eventually, a few volunteers noticed Blue’s more-than-sad face and decided to help the pooch. They shot a video of him and uploaded it to Facebook, hoping someone would adopt him.

Shortly after, a woman named Jennifer McKay came over to meet Blue. “He looked very sad and depressed,” McKay told The Dodo. “He wouldn’t even acknowledge me at all. All the other dogs were making eye contact and wagging their tails, but he wouldn’t stand up, wouldn’t come see me.”

“You could tell that every time someone walked by, it was like he was looking for [his family],” she said. “It’s like he knew he had been left there.” McKay had made up her mind to adopt Blue, and after the dog passed the temperament test, she took him home. After he left the shelter, Blue King became a new dog. His new owner says that Blue loves sleeping, belly rubs, cuddles, and gazing into the mirrors. “He’s obsessed with looking at himself in the mirror,” McKay said. Blue still has a lot of learning to do (including the basic commands and walking on a leash) but McKay says that the once-shelter dog is going to be fine.

Why would you not take the dog to the new home? When I move out of somewhere the next place I go to has to be animal friendly.

Some people unfortunately can't take their animals along! When I was younger we had a dog, and we really, really loved him. Unfortunately, when we moved to another country it wasn't possible for us to take him, as we had literally nothing, not even a house. It still breaks my heart to think about him, but he has a new family and is now old - we'll always miss him, but it's not always possible to bring your animal with you.

I would never move without my dogs, if they can't go then I can't go. I made a commitment to them when I adopted them that I would watch over them until the day I died. The only reason I can understand for getting rid of an animal is if it too aggressive or if you are physically unable to care for it. I told my co-worker that I was planning to move overseas in the next few years and how it was a perfect time to do it since the only obligation I have is to my dogs. She responded with "Yes, and they should be easy to find homes for." I just stopped dead and was like "Oh no, they are coming with me." Sure moving dogs overseas can be difficult, but if something happens and it can't be done then I will simply stay where I am.

God, bless you for taking Blue! Pit bulls are amazing. Up to about 1 year ago I said I would NEVER EVER own one. Then we saw this dog on the side of the road bloody and having a very hard time breathing. As I got closer I could see it was a pit. However, there was no way in God's green earth I was gonna leave any defenceless animal just laying there so my husband and I got her in our car and took her to the closes animal hospital. Bottom line the doc determined some A@@hole used her as either a bare dog or in a fight. And she had puncture holes in her head and chest which is why she was struggling to breath one of the ones in her chest puctured her lung. Anyways, the doc saved her and because we agreed to keep her only charged us 50% of her bill. She is beautiful girl so started calling her Bella. Let me tell you, she is so loving, cuddly, and full of kisses. I've had dogs my whole life and as a first time pitbull owner, all I can say is I will never own another kind. We love our Bella

If you adopt/buy a dog, do your freaking research first and make up your mind. Unless something drastic happens, you shouldn't put your animal in a shelter. For heaven's sake. Also, people need to seriously do their RESEARCH before getting a dog. Like don't buy a german shephard if you hate exercising or walking. ugh

I don't understand how people make a dog or cat part of their family then go and just leave them behind. I know sometimes situations arise and you can't control them, but how does a person just decide they don't want their pet anymore?

Best case scenario, they had to move for work reasons or similar and their new accommodation would not allow the dog…that's about the only way I can see to excuse them

If you get a pet, then you adopt a living family member. Pet's are not toys. It breaks my heart that people can be so cruel to leave their children behind. And to top it off, at a high kill shelter. We don't deserve to survive on this planet, when all we do is tear it apart.

Animals do not cry like humans. As a vet I am sure of that. Their sadness can be seen in the eyes, lack if enthusiasm and appetite. I noticed hypersalivation as well. So the lacrimae were due to other than emotional causes. I am happy the dog is well now. It is a very pretty one.

Dogs don't cry with tears. Tears indicate some kind of eye illness for the dog. However touching the story is (I am so glad he has home now) it shouldn't be a reason to misinform and emotionaly manipulate people. If your dog cries don't try to cheer them up, take them to the vet.

A dog is a family member. If for some reason you could not take care of your dog any longer, I would think you would have the responsibility of finding him/her a new loving home. That's what my Mom did when I was in an apartment that didn't allow pets and my Dad had just died. Our dog was inconsolable and my Mom was at work all day and hardly at home (barely coping herself). My Mom sent Honey, who was then elderly, to a "retirement " home. We visited her as often as we could and she seemed to be happy to have a stay at home Mom and a new "child" supplying plenty of hugs and kisses until she died yeasts later of natural causes. Win/win.

Why they didn't take him?! People are dumb, assholish(I make up new words when irritated) idiotic beasts! No matter where I'm going, all my pets are coming with me! Even the stick insects the 20 fish, they might not have feelings towards me, but I do!

Look, they obviously didn't know what to do with that dog. He still doesn't know many basic commands. People want a pit but are not aware that they are going to be dealing with a very active dog. They are loving, loyal and can be trusted but must be trained and loved. They are huge lap dogs. It hurts me to know what Blue went through and how hurt he was. These animals have real feelings of love and happiness, yes, hurt and sadness. My heart is just hurting even though he was better later.

I seriously think that people should not make an attempt to be responsible for an animal if you have no back bone to begin with. They aren't sh+t. I would and have starved before my dog. What part of you are their "care taker" don't these people understand? Some of these animals are adopted already abandoned. They don't need to be abandoned twice. Why don't you add insult to injury. Geez.

I adopted a pit from the animal shelter,I would give up my wife before letting my dog go anywhere. every time I walk out the door of my house with her she cries and howls thinking I won't come back. I come back home and she's goes crazy running around the house dancing because she so happy I returned when we're together there's no need for a lead because she won't leave my side. And she won't let certain people within 10 feet of me. Mainly a few neighbors she don't trust.

Name one good reason that you would leave your dog in a shelter! It will never be answered because there is no good reason, moving home isn't a good reason, it is laziness because they couldn't be bothered with this beautiful boy anymore. Thanks to the people at the shelter and his neighbours mum things turned out good otherwise he would another body in a black bag. Shame on his previous.... People!

Sometimes it's better NOT to get a pet, especially a dog that bonds so strong to his owner, if you may have such changes in life. I waited for years until I knew I will no more be away from home this much that I decided to give home to two cats from a shelter.

People think that dogs and cats do not have feelings or understand what is going on, but they do! Blue knew that he had been abandoned and was heart broken. People who do this are mean and cold. Thank Jennifer McKay for giving him a loving home.

Reading the story about "Blue" actually brought tears to my eyes.Having a pet is like having a child. Would you give your human child away because you did not feel like taking care of him anymore? I could not even imagine being without my 'Roxy Anne". <3 <3 <3 1007090929...d32fb3.jpg 1007090929a-59d1362d32fb3.jpg

People!

When the head(s) of this family age and their kids can't be bothered anymore, they will be dropped off in the nearest home. This is the lesson they taught their family. No loyalty, no compassion, no effort. Everything is disposable. So glad Blue is happy!

Sometimes it's better NOT to get a pet, especially a dog that bonds so strong to his owner, if you may have such changes in life. I waited for years until I knew I will no more be away from home this much that I decided to give home to two cats from a shelter.

His previous owners should be shot. When you take an animal into your family that is what they are...your family. You don't just abandon them at the drop of a dime because you don't want them anymore. Things like that make me sick and I am truly happy that this ended with a happy ending.
