Shocking Video Of Nurse Inflating Healthy Lungs Vs Smoker’s Reveals What Cigarettes Really Do To You
As soon as you put a cigarette into your mouth, it starts killing your body. However, coughs and other warning signs often prove too mild to make those smoking cigarettes kick the habit. But maybe this video will help them. Amanda Eller, a nurse from North Carolina, has shared a graphic comparison between healthy and smokers’ lungs. The difference is so eye-opening that nearly 500K people have already shared the footage on Facebook.
In the video, it’s easy to tell which is which. The healthy lungs are pinky red and the those that went through a pack of cigarettes a day for 20 years look like a wreck, destroyed in a fire. “Because these lungs are COPD, cancerous lungs, the elastance is gone so that they will stretch out, but then the recoil of them just snaps right back,” a voice in the recording explained. Elastance is the ability of lungs to rebound after inhalation. Reduced elastance means the human lungs are stiff and have to work way harder to bring in sufficient air, leaving its possessor breathless, and if that’s not enough proof that smoking kills, we don’t know what is.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “[the] overall mortality among both male and female smokers in the United States is about three times higher than that among similar people who never smoked.” Cigarettes cause about one of every five deaths in the States each year, killing more than 480,000 people annually. However, it’s never too late. For example, quitting smoking before 40 reduces the risk of dying from smoking-related disease and lung cancer by about 90%.

I am so glad I never started smoking....
so am I. You'll live longer and have fewer health problems
I quit in 2001 at 30 after smoking off and on for 15 years. I HOPE my lungs aren't as black as in that video! Does anyone know if lungs can go back to pink after they are black???
It depends on your age. But I've heard that it can take ten years to repair the damage if your under 25. My Doctor told me that when I quit as a young person. Recently had a scan for different reasons and I'm OK thankfully. Every break you take is worth it mate. Proud of ya...
My nan stopped smoking at 74 and lived until 96. She started smoking when she was 14. Lungs indeed heal themselves. It is mainly genes that give you cancer though. I've known of active, healthy vegetarians that died of lung cancer. Plus you may never get cancer but you could have a freak accident at any time. Live life and do everything in moderation.
Doc said it's about regeneration of cells, which slowly declines as we age... I reckon you're OK there!
Well done! Congratulations. Substantial healing starts within the first few weeks and continues.
Thank you, Han!
Me, too.
Almost 4 years since my last cigarette (after smoking for 10+ years). One of the best decisions I made in my life. My health is significantly better, I must say in combination with a lot of exercise and healthier meals. There are absolutely none benefits that come with smoking. All bunch of excuses you tell yourself. You have only one lifetime and one body. Don't ruin it by pumping poison into your body.
How did you stop?
it's all about the mindset. If you're not ready to quit, you won't succeeding quitting. Don't quit because others want you to quit or because your friends are quitting. Quit because YOU want to quit. And don't try, to quote Yoda: "Do or do not, there is no try." Good luck!
At once. Came home from friends on an evening. Was smoking all night, sore throat and misery. Throw all my cigarets (including the backup in the car and home, yes I was addicted) and lighters in the trash bin and never touched a cigaret again. I know if I just try once, I get addicted again.
I loved ciggies & never wanted to quit but knew I had to. I smoked from 12 years of age until I was 35. At the worst a pack of 25 a day. Champix was the only thing that worked for me as I did not want to quit. Just keep taking the tablets & then one day (after about a 2 months) you'll lose the interest & never go back. I am now 47 & I have no interest or cravings for them whatsoever. I live in Brisbane Australia where a pack of cigarettes now costs $50.00. When I first started smoking in 1984 I could get a pack for 75 cents.
I tried several methods, but the e-cigaret was the best option for me. 6 years without smoking and I'm healthier than ever. That tech is great now, you really feel you're smoking but you start feeling healthier, start smelling everything, food have better and stronger tastes, you can manipulate the amount of nicotine until you reach zero... You handle it whatever you want. There are no side effects but of course, not enough tests so you can actually be 1000% is not bad for you. Just don't see it as a replacement but a tool that will help you out smoking immediately, it's freaking magic. I made more than 10 friends to quit that nasty habit. Some even dropped the e-cigaret already. I used it less than a year.

I wanted to fit in so badly, going to high school in the south where everyone smoked. I tried for less than a week and thankfully the only thing my asthma has ever done positively for me, getting very ill and realizing my body couldn't handle that lol
Me too. I once sneaked a puff of my stepdad's cigarette and instantly had an asthma attack and I have not touched a cigarette since.
Me too. Scared my bullies when I went a bit blue, they stopped that type of bullying at least :-S
