To Make My Son Eat Healthy Food, I Turn It Into His Favorite Cartoons
33Kviews
My name is Laleh and I am 35. I have a son Jacob (6) and a daughter Charlie (19 months old). In May 2015, I turned my son's spelt pancakes into a lion for a bit of fun and he loved it! Every few days he would ask if I could make him a character from a movie, book or toy that he had seen. Jacob and I would get creative in the kitchen and discuss the ingredients that we were using and the benefits. For example, when he was 3, we would talk about how Kale was a superfood. He would ask why, and I would say 'because superheroes love eating it' - that was a winner for him!
I started posting our creations on my personal Facebook page and had such a positive response that I thought I would create an Instagram account to inspire other parents to get creative in the kitchen.
Within a month our page went viral and gained media attention from all over the world with media coverage from Time Magazine, Huffington Post, The Today Show USA, The Today Show Australia, Sunrise, ABC TV, Disney Channel Australia, and shout outs from celebrities, such as Martha Stewart and Ashton Kutcher to name a few. Ellen DeGeneres has even shared an artwork that I made of her on her show!
Within the last two years, we have been lucky enough to work with some amazing companies including Disney, Nickelodeon, Universal Pictures, Barcelona FC, Jamie Oliver, 20th Century Fox to name a few.
We would never in a million years have thought that our little kitchen creations would turn into a full-time business but we love every minute of it!
We love to use fresh, healthy produce and no refined sugar or preservatives. All our creations are dyed using vegetables and natural powders such as activated charcoal.
Check the other meals that I've shared on Bored Panda.

The food plate art stuff is well done - god help her kids - either not allowed to touch it - or eat it stone cold after she has played about with it for an hour to get "the instagram pic". Just actually feed your children real food when they are hungry.
Hi Diane, I find it really strange that you have all this time to sit here and basically TROLL all over my creations. You have managed to make a negative comment on most of my creation. I don't understand where all this hatred is coming from but let me reply to a few of your comments: If you read the description it clearly says that this is now career for me - (lucky me right! ) so some of these creations are made as commissioned pieces - that's right I get paid to do this!! Isn't that amazing! These creations weren't made for my little girl for his 19months old they were made for my son JACOB - hence Jacob's Food Diaries. A lot of them were for him to eat but CLEARLY the ones that celebrity ones that are made were as tributes and NOT for him to eat. I make only 3 creations a week so the other remaining meals are "normal" meals so please don't stress my kids aren't and wont grow up to be brats
Laleh - how many times to I have to reiterate that your creations are amazing and so is your new career. Just some of the cold food is not really appetising to me. Different people have different tastes. Have never once criticized your artistry - after all the edibility of the food isnt the main point in Celebrity Comissioned Creations.
I too was doubting why you needed to do this to make your kids healthy, cause they should eat veg without this. However this clarification has really helped me understand your work more! Good luck in the future, these designs are truly inspired

Why don't you make your diy out of something else than food??? So many people die because they have no access to food. Why don't give the food you play with to charities? This would be the descent thing to do. Not every family have the budget to fool around with food.
Y'all don't up vote her, she has had a lot of nasty things to say on most of the pictures and accusing the mom of some pretty serious stuff that she couldn't possibly know. She really doesn't need the encouragement.
Thank you Ashley :) xx
Jevais — why don’t artists sell their supplies and give the money to charities? I mean, that would be the “descent” thing to do by your logic. Besides, yes lots of families don’t have food like this but so many families are so fortunate to have those resources. Besides this is her JOB.

how negative can you be. You know nothing about this family yet make an assumption that the mother starves her kids. She does not do this everyday, she does this for fun and she loves doing it.
@Lelah, ignore diane a. She didn't read the entire intro and didn't read your response above. I almost thought the same thing, but I always read all the info before I comment, so I realized that this was now just art using food that STARTED as a way to entertain your son, but now is separate art, and you are very good at it. You got a lot of upvotes and many people enjoy your work. Try not to focus on a couple of negative people (as hard as that can be sometimes)
I said the food art is well done - very well done. But not neccessarily the healthiest combinations to be making 19 month old babies and a six year old eat. OK mash potato is great to sculpt and dye - but why pretend youare making it for the kids to eat stone cold one you finished playing with the food.
Thank you Julian - I just don't understand how people can turn such a positive thing into such a negative! xx
Thank you Marnee, I really appreciate your comment. Diane is what she is - I guess everyone is different. I just don't understand how someone can turn such a fun and positive thing into such a negative. All good though - whilst she spends her time trolling, Ill spend my time more productively creating :) xx have a lovely day and again thank you xxx
Diane, I don’t like hot mashed potatoes very much and her some might not also
"To make my son eat healthy"..... anyone else wondering how old his kid has to be to be persuaded to eat healthy and appreciate Snoop Dog or Amy Winehouse? Starting to wonder if she is retired and her son is a 43 year old man.
I like how you guys point out Amy Winehouse and Snoop Dog as being totally unacceptable..but then make it seem like Freddie Krueger is normal for a child... Please people..read the article before scanning the pictures...
Thankyou! Xxx
I thought the same thing Maurissa, Amy Winehouse and Snoop Dogg, Really?
Have just realised I have turned into a Troll for disliking raw octopusses.
I think it was a bad choice of title which has thrown everyone off.
Hi Maurissa, Wow how you can turn such a fun thing into a negative - I just don't get it! But to answer your question- if you take the time to read the description rather than troll you will see that this is also a career for me - so there are a lot of commissioned pieces and tributes that CLEARLY is not made for my son to eat. Thank you anyway though.
Just because people don't like your title and description doesn't make them a troll. I think it is inappropriate for a child. If it is for your business, then maybe you should consider putting a real title instead of catfishing people. Therefore, if you can't handle criticism, don't post. If you are advertising your business maybe not try to be so misleading. Otherwise, I might be inclined to say that your title trolled Bored Panda?!
OK I get it now - thanks for the clarifcation - post title - "To Make My Son Eat Healthy Food", disclaimer "CLEARLY is not made for my son to eat". this is an advertisement for your business only. It looks good so wish you well, just be honest.
While these are super cute & creative, I don't think kids should need their parents to make these to eat the food their parents provide. To me, that's a brat.
That would be a brat if you ONLY ate food designed as a character you like. However, every once and a while it’s a nice treat if your mother came and gave you a lunch that looked like Elsa or something. ☺️
Agreed When I was little my dad would often make me and my siblings pancakes on the weekend. Sometimes he would make them into animal shapes for us, we loved it but had no problem eating normal pancakes either
thank you :) I only make 3 creations a week - the rest are normal meals. My children are far from brats :) xx

She plays 3 times a week with the food. Kids that starving have no choice but to die of hunger. This just ludicrous!
Did you read the beginning paragraphs? They do this as a hobby together and she does most of these for commission, ordered by actual companies... read the freaking text before making accusations.
THANKKKKYOU!! xxx
Yes. I understand that this is fun but only do it when you know you’re child will eat food normally because if not, this is how you make a brat
