I Raised Money To Save A Stray Cat’s Life

This is BoyBoy, a stray cat that was hanging around my house. He was suffering from severe dental issues and I could not handle seeing him this way. It was breaking my heart…
He was pretty wild but with a little bit of patience and a lot of love I was able to gain his trust enough to get him into a carrier. I had to raise the money to cover his $1000 vet bill but we did it.

Thank you. It took a long time to gain his trust. I wanted to help him so bad so much sooner than he allowed me to. He even ran away once before I helped him, he was gone for months and I just new he went away to die but then he came back and he looked like he was dying. I knew I had to get him somehow and I did. I was so happy. Thank you.
The most frustrating part of feral care is that they don't understand that you are trying to help them. They are often their own worst enemy. I've had several experiences like yours, where they disappear after a trapping attempt. And when they return it is often too late and all you can do is end their suffering. But sometimes you get to watch a great recovery. Caring for a feral colony can be heartbreaking but when a feral Learns to trust you, that moment makes it all worth while. Hope you both have many happy years together.

I remember the very first time he he allowed me to touch him...I totally kept my cool in front of him but as soon as I got into the house I just started jumping up and down. LOL
This morning I just read an article about an American Dentist traveled all the way to Zimbabwe to hunt/kill/skin/behead a lion. It broke my heart. Thank you for showing that those evil people are the few. Love your story. It makes my day better.

My boyfriend and I have a cat like this. He is a stray but my boyfriend made him friendly. His leg got injured though (he can't walk on it and most of the skin is gone near the paw) and we had to scrape up the money to take him to the vet. The antibiotics and treatment were really expensive but now he may have to get his leg amputated to live. The procedure is far beyond our financial reaches though and it's really sad because he's such a sweet kitty. He was even nice to the vet :(
Start a GoFundMe account for him...People are amazing especially when they know your heart is in it. If you are willing to provide shelter and care for this kitty you will be surprised at how many people that will be willing to help financially. Also, Google "Need help with vet bill' There are other resources out there that can help a great deal.
I already did all of that. No one we know personaly would want to donate money for a cat. Plus, we're trying to keep the actual cost a secret because our families would get mad if they knew how much we spent already. And I've been on the phone with multiple organizations and have spent hours on google. We don't have anyone who wants to help in our area. No one cares about stray cats it seems

Well done! Looks like he had eye infections too. And he looks exactly like my rescue cat, except he has an extra spot on his back :-).
Thank you. His teeth were so bad , especially his top teeth. He is doing so well now, he even comes into the house and naps next to me. He is a love.

I have helped a colony of feral cats along with my husband, it was so rewarding, at one point it was if the cats were telling other cats to come to us,we would hear meowing outside and there would be another cat at our door either sick or pregnant or hungry. At one point we had 4 pregnant Moms, within a few weeks we had 17 babies, some were sick and the Humane Society helped me get the sick babies better. When we moved away all were okay and living in the woods after TNR on all cats...I miss them all but we had to leave, my neighbors were involved when we left!
I have been Doing this my whole life it seems...rescuing cats. They find me no matter where I am, I swear there must be a sign in front of my house that reads 'Cat lady lives here and will feed cats even if she has to give them her own food' LOL My best friend is a cat named Mikey and he rescued me once when I really needed to be rescued....I am just giving back....

It is tragic that it should cost that much money... Only in America! I live in Mexico, and have rescued more paros and gatos than I can remember. We have allways been able to find sympathetic vets that will help out our rescue animals at minimal cost. When we moved here 10 years ago, the vet in Scottsdale, AZ ripped us $200 just for the health certificates so we could help our 2cats join us in our escape from the land of greed.
It is tragic and it really upsets me. We actually got a good deal at $1000, it's crazy.
One of my best cats was a stray. Congrats on all the love and work you put into this sweetie.
BoyBoy is so handsome! What a sweet kitty. My grandma used to say angels came in all shapes and forms...I think maybe you and BoyBoy are angels for each other. :-)

I have known a few vets that do care, I worked for a couple of them but that was a long time ago and these days it seems to be more about money than animals. As for the donors...these people are incredible and i am so grateful for them. Thank you.

I thank God for people like you. If only everybody could think like thi. He reminds me so much of a cat in a similar state who I found outside my door on a bitterly cold day & he was trying to eat a rock hard piece of bread. I didn't hesitate either & brought him in. Thankfully he wasn't afraid of me. It was so touching because whenever I went out to the garden he would always emerge from somewhere & come over to say hello to me. Sam was always so grateful & we loved each other so much. I believe in renincarnation, which makes perfect sense to me, & I just KNOW that all my cats have come back to me many times, wearing a different coat but with the same personality & behavioural traits. They come back into the same loving family as this is how we grow & evolve. So if you want your beloved pet back just ask! & somehow or other they will just turn up. Sam last turned up as a kitten in the middle of the road outside my house & I just knew he was meant for me. There are no accidents :)
I lost a rescue cat named Roo several years ago...it broke my heart. He had the exact same issues as BoyBoy but he was much older and lived a full life. It was strange to meet another cat with the same issues. I rescued Roo also and raised over $2000 for his care. Thank you.

The pain BoyBoy was in was excruciating but he has thanked you tenfold,just look at his face and coat! Five of my ten cats we rescued off the streets,one,Pukka had to have all her teeth pulled. I thought i would have to put her food in a blender but noo! Pukka was able to chomp on anything and everything,just like BoyBoy will. Thanks for helping and giving him a better quality of life. My son had a friend who had a cat that they didn't want anymore and couldn't find anyone to take her. My son had just moved back home with his cat, I already had 2 cats and a dog. This friend of his was just going to throw out this cat in the cold and I could not et that happen, so I took her in too. So now I have 4 cats and a dog, 3 of the cats are all around 1 year old.
People think their pets are disposable and when they move they just leave them. All ten of my cats we rescued off the street from these pos who moved and left them.
And that is it right there...it's crazy how many animals just get left behind, it upsets me so much.
I have 6 in the house and four that go in and out. There are also around 6 feral cats that eat here . I have cats coming out of my ears...but they are loved and cared for. Most are rescues. Thank you.
Just read this today - Dec 20, 2017. I hope you and BoyBoy are doing well. What a transformation! This is proof what some TLC and patience can accomplish. You are certainly an Earth Angel <3 And BoyBoy turned out to be so handsome.
Well done...! All they need is a little help & a lot of love & that's what you gave him. He reminds me of a cat I took in. I found him outside my house on a freezing cold day trying to eat a stale crust of bread & it was so pathetic. He wasn't well either. He was sneezing & snuffling & looking very sad. I already had 2 cats & my husband wasn't pleased as we were pretty poor but there was no way I was leaving him like that & I still open my door to a cat or kitten in distress (at the moment I have 5 & they're all rescue cats). I am repaid by their gratitude as they never seem to forget that you helped them & one. That one, Sam, would sleep in the potato patch next door but whenever I went into the garden, he would always get up & come over to me to say hell. Another, who was a terrified kitten in the middle of the road, just sits there & stares at me in utter adoration. Its so humbling. I eventually divorced the mean husband & kept the cats. Ha! Lol.We need more people like you! <3

Beautiful cat! To my mind, the most horrible thing aas the dribbling issue rather than the general look, although when a cat is dirty, it means something's very wrong... He couldn't clean the mess on his fur because of the teeth issues. Congratulations on your persistence in raising the money to cover the expenses. The bill was huge!

You are wonderful. May I ask how you raised the money? I've been rescuing feral & stray cats for many years; I fixed every cat without a home in my neighborhood for over 10 years. We built an outdoor cattery connected by a tunnel thru the window of our spare room for the ferals. My husband and I are both on Disability now and need help caring for the animals. Right now I have 3 former rescues who desperately need dental care (1 looks worse than yours did!) and another one with a high fever and such a severe upper respiratory infection I have to soak the crust off his poor little nose several times a day just so he can breathe. We're down to "only" 11 cats from 27.

I got 79 cats in Venezuela picked from the streets and because inflation over 100%, just try to buy treir food is almost impossible, the authorities just dont help i just wish get some help in food but dont see options, still givin love and all i can do....

All Feral cats should be put down. 18 native species are Gone because of them. There are well over 2 million Feral cats .

I have helped a colony of feral cats along with my husband, it was so rewarding, at one point it was if the cats were telling other cats to come to us,we would hear meowing outside and there would be another cat at our door either sick or pregnant or hungry. At one point we had 4 pregnant Moms, within a few weeks we had 17 babies, some were sick and the Humane Society helped me get the sick babies better. When we moved away all were okay and living in the woods after TNR on all cats...I miss them all but we had to leave, my neighbors were involved when we left!
I have been Doing this my whole life it seems...rescuing cats. They find me no matter where I am, I swear there must be a sign in front of my house that reads 'Cat lady lives here and will feed cats even if she has to give them her own food' LOL My best friend is a cat named Mikey and he rescued me once when I really needed to be rescued....I am just giving back....

It is tragic that it should cost that much money... Only in America! I live in Mexico, and have rescued more paros and gatos than I can remember. We have allways been able to find sympathetic vets that will help out our rescue animals at minimal cost. When we moved here 10 years ago, the vet in Scottsdale, AZ ripped us $200 just for the health certificates so we could help our 2cats join us in our escape from the land of greed.
It is tragic and it really upsets me. We actually got a good deal at $1000, it's crazy.
