"Eating birds" (those for human consumption) are, industrially, an entirely different species from "egg birds". Eating birds have a life span or weeks. Egg birds have a much longer, relatively, life AND a specific, money making, purpose that keeps them, for the most part, out of the eating bird supply chain.
