Mom Turns Cupboard Under The Stairs Into Harry Potter Room
When librarian Courtney Bonnet moved into her new house last June, she knew exactly what to do with the cupboard under the stairs. Inspired by the cupboard where Harry Potter lived at 4 Privet Drive, the Pennsylvania resident used old Harry Potter books to paper the walls, turning the tiny room into a “Wizards Only” space for her kids.
“I have been a huge Harry Potter fan for a long time and I knew the soon as I saw the space that I wanted to turn it into a Harry Potter room, ” told Bonnet Bored Panda. “It took me about 8 days and cost about $250-300. I had a bunch of the Harry Potter stuff but did buy rugs and the fabric for the walls.”

“I first noticed [the secret room] when we came to an open house last year”
My husband and I bought the house “after agreeing I could turn the space into a Harry Potter–themed room”
“I just love Harry Potter and books and reading,” said librarian and mother Courtney Bonnet
“I am pretty crafty and handy around the house so I figured why not? What kid wouldn’t want their own secret room?”
“I want my kids to enjoy books and reading and see what an impact books can have on a person’s life”
Thank you, Courtney Bonnet, for talking to Bored Panda about your wonderful idea!

Share on FacebookThe door looks great but from inside... Unfortunately not. There is no Harry Potter feeling at all. Color of the walls is too light for example. It is not "Harry Potter room" if you just add a poster of the movie and a coffin with the logo. Or of course you can call it whatever you want.
And also... The quality of the work is poor. In every themed place.
Load More Replies...I appreciate the effort but...yikes...not too impressed...a bit drab and the punched hole in the wall...??!
I think that picture was work in progress, you can see that the walls were covered with book pages later.
Load More Replies...Nice work, but did you installed a grille or an air passage? It seems to be a small (and closed) room.
They probably make them keep the door open. At least I would, especially without a grille or vent.
Load More Replies...You don't see a light fixture, but there obviously has a to be one or the room wouldn't be so bright. A light in the hallway outside the door wouldn't light up the whole room like that.
I think the headwig on the chain is the pull chain for the light. I could be wrong though.
Load More Replies...When I was 7 or 8 a friend had a place like this in her house and we would get in there with her little sister, block the door and light some candles (to make it extra mysterious), until their parents found out and went mad. We could´ve started a fire and died in there. Always supervise kids in closed, small spaces like this one.
I think our understair cupboard was like the entrance to Narnia and other such worlds when growing up, more should be utilised in this way rather than a home for the hoover and other such junk
Well she's pretty accurate then, as in the movie it's locked from the outside by his fat uncle
