The ‘Hard To Swallow Pill’ Meme Has People Sharing Difficult Truths, And Here Are 30 Of The Most Popular Ones
The template of the meme consists of two WikiHow stock images: one with someone looking at a bottle of pills with a label that says "Hard to Swallow Pills" and another with the pills already in the person's hand, ready to be ingested.
People download it, slap a text of what they think is a universal truth on the second picture, and upload it back on the Internet, waiting for upvotes. And we often have to give it to them. Quite a few of these memes capture some universal law, most of which we know but don't want to accept. Like, "some of your problems are your own fault, and won't get better until you actively do something about it" or "you can't make someone love you."
Bored Panda has compiled some of the most popular Hard to Swallow Pills, so continue scrolling, check out the memes, and upvote your favorites.

Clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst Mary Lamia, Ph.D., thinks that the notion that one is “in denial” seems to have taken on a life of its own as an agent of many ills and as a catchphrase for people who dismiss the implications of their behavior.
"Although denial is considered to be a defense often used by people with addictive tendencies, its attributions reach beyond those struggling with substances," Lamia pointed out. "Denial is also attributed to people who do not want to acknowledge that bad stuff is occurring in their lives, such as those who are attempting to cope with a tumultuous relationship, a life-threatening illness, obesity, a loss, or anything else that one may attempt to disavow."
I'm from the US, and I agree with you. I see so many younger people that have been in the military thinking they are better than everyone, talking s**t, being rude. I saw two of them at a carnival once both shooting at the same target so they won the toys and the smaller kids couldn't win. After watching them a few times I finally called them out on it and they got kicked out of the game.
Load More Replies...As a veteran I agree. I served with some amazing people that I will always be there for, and some full-blown a*s hats that should never procreate.
Military and I've seen it firsthand. Most stupid as f**k notion is when people considered me better or more trustworthy for being a veteran instead of other factors
If there are 500 bad cops and 1300 good cops, but the 1300 good cops don't turn in the 500 bad cops then there are 1800 bad cops.
Load More Replies...I agree with this although going through the military training can turn a bad egg into a good one.
And the trauma associated with service might turn a good egg into a bad one. Which we could help address by putting more funding into mental health and supports for veterans.
Load More Replies...Finally ! !!! Goodness, joining the military or church or any holier than thou organization doesn't automatically make you a great person or a hero - those traits still have to be earned. And you CAN be a hero and a great person WITHOUT ever joining said services.
True , the non vet and the vet and nurses, doctors, mamas , Daddys, Fire fighters Many heros that don't have a title or uniform are heros in every day life, SOME are wicked evil no matter their choices in life, but don't discredit the good with the bad.
Load More Replies...I have known military personnel personally that did nothing due to there job. This was years ago before 9/11. And still expect the praise and glory on Veterans Day and everyday of the year and look down on people who are not military or law enforcement. That sense of entitlement is sickening.
That type of person is like that in every situation , always first to take credit and last to serve.
Load More Replies...The military-industrial complex is the most immoral thing on the planet. People need food, not bombs. How much funding is taken away from helping people, and goes towards killing and maiming people? The military is extremely bad for the environment. I'm so glad this is at the top of the post.
And remember that having teeth in your mouth is as American as pitchers that want to be hitters. 'Sorry I can't spare $100 for a routine teeth cleaning...I need the cash to get that million dollar unmanned drone so I can make more widows..."
Load More Replies...lol I got permanently banned from Next Door because I was defending a woman from a racist "veteran" who was not shy about pulling the "veteran card" as a defense. The racist old dude had nothing happen to him. All I said was "I don't give a s**t" when he said he fought in a war, like that was supposed to make his comments to the woman ok
Disgusting people come in all uniforms, colors, denomination, and sex. Thank you for standing up for her. My husband is a vet and has rescued many women in distress, yes even got the lady to the hospital in time for the birth in the worst bizzard in our history!( She never knew when he was in the service he got two bronze stars and acomadation medal and purple heart, still does not know, never will but she thinks he's a hero for geting her and the baby there on time.
Load More Replies...Lifelong military dependent here , this is sadly true. Military is the same as everywhere/everyone else. There are bad apples everywhere .
And it has become a festering mess because leadership refuses to remove said bad apples from the barrel, and that has caused entire barrels to develop ROT.
Load More Replies...The near obligatory "Thank you for your service" and "Thank you for defending the homeland" said to every military personnel in the US is being kept in everybody's mind by the military-industrial complex. Shareholders and owners there are the ones who are gaining from sending others to make war (and bring destruction) to foreign countries. In 2019, United States military expenditure amounted to 3.4 percent of US gross domestic product (GDP) or $716 billion. "The proposed budget for 2020 totals $718 billion, the largest annual amount requested over the five-year period." We need to care about our one and only planet!
I don't say thank you for your service. It's a weird thing to say. Do any vets even appreciate hearing this?
Load More Replies...Similarly, I don't think people are automatically bad for being in the military, despite the fact that the military-industrial complex is inherently evil.
Absolutely. Most (not all, but most) people who are anti-war and hate the military complex still believe that those who serve aren't the problem. It is the people who tell them where to go and what to do who are the problem.
Load More Replies...My family takes this view: "You are in the military! Great! I was, too. Now I am a CIVILIAN. Not a veteran. A CIVILIAN." .... And here come the downvotes....
Why would someone downvote you for seeing yourself as a civilian and not a veteran?
Load More Replies...TRUE. The reason vets appreciate the discounts is because people finally quit openly hating them for having served.
Load More Replies...The uniform does not make you a hero and hopefully you won't have to do what it takes to be one. Thank God most of us will never have to.
"God" has been more often used to excuse and start wars than avoid them.
Load More Replies...THIS 1000% PERCENT. Some of the worst people I've ever communicated with are veterans or active duty.
I replied to a post yesterday where the proponents proclaimed those who took part in Vietnam were heroes for fighting for Americas freedom.I asked the question,Freedom from what?????The "Vietnamese"The Vietnamese never did anything to America. That War went through 5 filthy stinking Presidents and the Bastard Pig Henry Kissinger.I do not live in America but I do have access to your history and I do read.Yesterday Facebook removed my reply because they don;t the truth.
That war should be in every school textbook under the title "War Of Aggression." Fact: The last time the USA needed defending was in 1941. Every war after that without fail was a bully war. And when they aren't out blasting others for their oil, the ammosexuals are shooting all the children in the schools. I guess that is what happens when you mix the DNA of bloodthirsty genocidal conquistadors and Aztecs that rip the heart out of someone and eat it in front of them before they die. When you mix two hazardous chemicals, the mixture that results will contain the combined hazards of both chemicals.
Load More Replies...And you’re not a hero because you play football and take a knee at the National anthem either.
I'm a veteran, and couldn't agree more. When it comes down to it, most of our choices are selfish. I joined the military to fight for my country...blah...blah...blah. Yeah, I did, but when I broke it down further it was because I wanted to feel useful. I'm skeptical of anyone who says they joined for truly altruistic reasons.
Please explain how my husband, who I am now caring for, who is disabled as a result of his military service, is not a hero
Nobody said you husband isn't a hero. They are saying that serving in the military doesn't automatically make you a hero. Being heroic makes you a hero. Being in the military gives people lots of opportunities to be heroic, but not everyone follows through with those opportunities.
Load More Replies...As a UK veteran I totally agree. The military takes all sorts of people and some are just not good people and very few of us are heroes. The truth about the US is it's not patriotism, it's nationalism. Being a nationalist excluding the facts is a big mistake. I love the UK but I am under no illusions that we are better than other countries. Our government is as corrupt as most others and our systems are flawed as all others. I love my country but it has faults. I am proud to have served but we are mere mortals and are certainly not heroes unless you fit very certain circumstances.
The military-industrial complex is the most immoral thing in the world. People need food, not bombs. A breathtaking amount of money is going towards killing, maiming, and crippling people instead of schools, food, or helping the less fortunate. This is pure evil. The military industrial complex is the worst thing in the world for the environment. A staggering amount of rape, sexual assault, and cover-up happens in the USA military and I'm sure in many other militaries as well.
Oh my gods, this. I live in a military town (surrounded by three bases), and the military here are the most SPOILED, ENTITLED, ARROGANT pieces of white trash. They bring such shame and disgrace to real veterans and people over all.
Yup. When people say "tHanK YoU fOr yOuR SerViCe", all I can answer is "my honor", because that's all that's left to me after I served.
Very, very few people in the military think of themselves as heroes or good people just because they're in the military. The ones that do are sociopaths. (Source: I'm in the military, have met lots of military members)
military is not about being good, its about safeguarding national interest and profit.
Even less if you're just married with someone in the military. Remember that post about entitled people who refuse to tip in restaurants for absurd reasons ?
Grew up in a military family, married into the military, and agree 100000% with this.
lol I have arrested quite a few criminals in the military. I am also in the military, so that is how that works.
I agree with this statement. There are two things that really nauseate me: when people talk about being a "Christian" (like that's supposed to make them special) or when they talk about their (or their spouse's) military service, as if we're all supposed to fall to their feet and worship them. Most people that I've come across professing their "Christian values" have been less than Christ-like. The people I've come in contact with that talk about their military service act as though they've done ME a special favor. Sorry, not sorry. My father was career military. My uncle served in the military, too. They didn't run around with "kiss me I'm retired military" buttons and bumper stickers. They chose to go in the Navy. No one forced them and they didn't expect or want anything except what was due: a paycheck.
Some of the most brutal husbands have been in the military and I should know one in the Navy and one in the army.
All the scammers out there trying to catfish women by pretending to be soldiers, must think that all women are dumb. As soon as I get a friend request from someone pretending to be a soldier, I delete them straight away. My facebook profile even says that I have no money and that I hate soldiers.
Say it to my face. Say it to the parents of the dead brother and sisters I've buried. Only someone who has never served or was rejected would Sh on those that do.
I would argue yes, going into the USA military. If you choose to enter and support this, then you are complicit in evil.
Load More Replies...Sure, we can deny a fact, deny responsibility, deny the impact of our actions, or even deny what is really going on by hiding from our feelings. But according to Lamia, when we use denial to defend ourselves or cope with what we feel, we contradict the reality of a situation or attempt to adjust to a circumstance by neglecting its impact. However, the extent of someone’s denial may not really be the issue at hand.
"What’s important is not that people recognize their denial, but that they are able to accept what they are feeling that leads to the denial in the first place," Lamia explained. "If someone excessively and habitually uses alcohol to medicate their anxiety, for example, we might emphasize their attempts to dismiss the harm that their use of alcohol will cause, rather than focus on the emotions they feel that motivate their denial. If that person stops drinking, one would hope the emotions that were formerly hidden by denial, which often have to do with shame, would be exposed and accepted by the individual."
Poor people have to work even harder than others, just to get a daily meal and shelter
We not only use denial to hide from any negative emotion, including shame, fear, guilt, or distress but to mute positive emotions as well. "Sometimes feeling positively may be just as threatening as negative feelings. We may want to deny the reality of our emotions, because accepting a reality that is uncomfortable, painful, or incongruous to what we expect means we must also alter our perception of ourselves. Thus, if you are in denial, perhaps you are simply trying to ignore the truth about what you actually feel, rather than about what you are doing or thinking."
But if you want to move forward, you have to swallow the truth.
This applies to both guys and gals. Nobody is as kind as they think themselves are.
I like this one. Re-evaluate your worldview every so often, visit other places, talk to people from other communities, read books, and so on. It's character building too.
This one should not even have to be a thing, but sadly it is.
This is the one thing every teenager (including me) has to understand. Not everyone has to like you, nor do they have to hate you. We just gotta let it be.
Possibly so, but believing that the Earth is flat, or that vaccinations don't work does make you stupid and deserving of ridicule.
The three big things needed in a relationship are trust, compromise and respect. Of course there are more like having each others back, liking the other person etc. Relationships are hard work, you need to make the effort to help it grow.
No but you can tie them up in your basement til stockholm syndrome kicks in.

One I would add is: choosing to have a baby won't necessarily magically change your life for the better or take away your depression. And even if you do everything right, your child could suck.
Children are not fashion accessories, life accoutrements, or there to fulfill some life's mission. They are children. They are to be loved, taught, protected and guided. They are not there to fulfill your "lost opportunities."

I've got some too ! 1) Men should receive compliments just as much as women, everyone's pretty 2) (for you pro-gender-role people) "Pretty" can be used to describe everyone and everything, not just women and flowers and sunsets and seas. Men can be pretty too. 3) ALL SEXUALITIES ARE VALID. You don't choose what your favorite color is, or what goes on in your body and brain. You can't choose or control who you love. 4) ABORTION SHOULD BE LEGAL AND AVAILABLE TO EVERY WOMAN. Rape-babies AREN'T THE WOMAN'S FAULT. Stop making it seem that way. Old white men shouldn't care what a woman does with an accidental clump of cells. 5) Women don't dress for men, and men don't dress for women. Some might, but they shouldn't have to if they don't want to. 6) Cancel Culture is immature. Period. Y'all really be ruining someone's life and shooting them into a life of poverty because they couldn't go to college, just because they posted a pic with a Trump flag.
7) Just because someone has different views as you does not automatically mean they are stupid and have a low IQ. Some of the most influential, intelligent people in the US are Trump supporters. This does not mean that they are correct in their decision, obviously. Trump is smart on certain subjects, like business. Not windmills, though, he could use some work with windmills. He DOES know a lot about raping little girls and boys, though, because he has experience in that field.
